For the second year running the Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini has been voted Newcastle United Blog Player of the Season.
Fabricio Coloccini – won it for second year in a row
This is the sixth time we’ve held the vote and this is the lowest winning percentage since we started to vote back in 2008 when Habib Beye (remember him?) won the sward.
Here’s the final voting – with over 4,000 fans having voted and there’s just one vote per reader, so results cannot be skewed by one fan.
Who Was Newcastle's Player Of The Season - Poll
- Coloccini (24%, 945 )
- Santon (16%, 635 )
- Krul (14%, 547 )
- Marveaux (12%, 493 )
- Taylor (S) (9%, 343 )
- Cabaye (7%, 295 )
- Cisse (6%, 257 )
- Perch (6%, 235 )
- Gutierrez (4%, 141 )
- Ben Arfa (3%, 112 )
Total Voters: 4,016
The biggest winner we’ve had was Sebastien Bassong in our relegation season, when he picked up 67.9% of the vote in 2009, but then left for Tottenham that summer and rejoined former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton at Norwich City last August on a three year deal.
Games | Won | Draw | Lost | GF | GA | GD | Points | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
S. Bruce | 8 | 0 | 3 | 5 | 10 | 19 | -9 | 3 |
G. Jones | 3 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 5 | -3 | 2 |
E. Howe | 27 | 13 | 5 | 9 | 32 | 38 | -6 | 44 |
PL Total | 38 | 13 | 10 | 15 | 44 | 62 | -18 | 49 |
This is yet another reason why Newcastle must keep Colo at the club, for the remaining three years of his Newcastle contract.

Thought Santon was one of our better performers for the first half of the season.
Colo had a shaky start and then there was the whole wanting to leave business, so didn’t feel right to vote for him.
All in all, no one consistently stood out for me.

Comment #2Colo has been injured for large parts, still not denying the inpact he has on the squad he is too drawer.
Player of the season for me though was Santon who played ALOT of games for us and appears to be finding his feet in the prem. In my opinion he gets a lot of undeserved stick on here.

Like doing a lap of honour after your third home defeat on the trot.
0-3, 0-6, 0-1 … lets have an apologetic jog around the stadium …
PARDEW OUT!!
that’s better.

Comment #5Bit pointless this year, no ones been constant or good enough to get it really apart from maybe ba but he’s exempt obviously. Colo seems to be the default choice.

Comment #6Ibiza and dmac – Completely agree. Santon was our stand out player. Colo did welk whilst we had him, but injuries, and the whole transfer debacle set him aside for my vote.
At any time he could’ve put the talk to bed until at least the summer, but never said a word, hoping to get a move. Shame.
New this morning is I’m hearing we have made official contact with sochaux re a transfer. If I had to guess, I would say it’s for Ryad Boudebouz.

Comment #7Toon-Prodigy I have watched a lot of Gouffran since he joined and he
is clearly an excellent buy. He does though appear to lack stamina. He starts of as in the Duracell battery advert but after about an hour is the other battery. A move to another league/ job can be both mentally and physically taxing and in January stamina fitness training tends not to feature too much but do you think we will we see a vast improvement next

Comment #8Interesting massive survey on Alan Pardew and Ashley ran by the Chronicle in regards to last season, our local newspaper in Newcastle. A general feeling in the area and surrounding areas.

Comment #10Oh and as far as HBA and Monaco is concerned, think they are after di Maria next. So failing that they may bid. But seeing them splash the cash would only force MA to hold Out for big money. £30mil take it or leave it.
Yes it’s above his valuation given his form and injuries….but if they want him, they will pay it.

Comment #14dmac…He is young so has room to improve. I think he gets caught out defensively a fair bit, but that can be worked on and improved. Generally the criticisms of him are a little OTT.

Comment #17Personally think boudebouz is better than Benny! Hes a yard quicker and more direct! Hes not as good going past defenders but hes got a better idea of when to whip a cross in! Hes more of a winger than HBA

Comment #19If monaco are as rich as they are then i say milk them for all we can. Even his biggest fan would have to admit 20 – 30mil would be a extremely good deal.

Comment #21If we DID sell HBA for say £25-30mil (unlikely), we could buy Boudebouz (£12m) and Belhanda (£9mil) and still have change.
IF that’s scenario did happen…then it’s a good deal all around.

Comment #23Thing is, HBA is french! So if he joins monaco hel still have to pay that ridiculous tax due to an agreement between the principality and france! It is only foreign nationals and native monacans that are tax free! Means monaco would have to pay benny about £150k aweek just to match his take home pay at nufc (55k per week)! Pretty sure HBA would want to be inline with rodriguez and moutinho on about 85k a week but to pay him that monaco would have to fork out a good 200k a week making him their costliest player, PSG do it but monacos owners cant match PSG for wealth, id say irs doubtful any top french players will end up there because of the tax for french nationals

Comment #24Looking at the squad, we’ve lost 2 main players but i don’t think Harper needs replacing. With Simmo and R.Taylor out/gone a young Haidara-like RB would be handy as Tavernier is utter garbage, though we may have Dummett.
A CB is needed either as an improvement on Willo, or as a replacement for Colo who we should try and keep for at least another year, replacement must be experienced though. Remembering that Good, Mbabu and Satka need to come through in the next 2-3 years.
A winger is essential, Obertan can be offloaded and so can Gosling and a few youth. Inman looks the part but we really need someone direct who can cross the ball.
Striker x2 is the most obvious, if Shola can be moved on I’d love to see options like Cisse, Aubameyang, Gouffran, A.N.Other and Campbell.
All in all 25-30m probably, with about 5 recuperated from Willo/Gosling/Obertan/Shola. Unfortunately I can definitely see us losing a big player, and it’s probably Colo or Cabaye, and maybe Ben Arfa or Santon.

Comment #26Ibiza. – good morning. I voted for Cisse because I thought in an abysmal season he was the most influential. Was your strategy in not voting to enable you to be able to continue, the pretence of sitting on the fence. To music.

Comment #29From what I’ve seen of Boudebouz at Sochaux iover the last 3 years, no way is he worth 12m. He would be a very poor man’s replacement for ben Arfa.
Belhanda on the other hand would be an interesting option in the attacking MF role. I suspect he would be of particular interest to us if Cabaye heads off somewhere.
He may well have better (financial & CL) offers.

In regards to Gouffran and all of our french importants who arrived in January. I believe there will be a vast improvment on fitness and energy levels next season. We need to remember these lads are from a totally different league and have only been here 3-4 months.
Pre-season will be a big factor hopefully they will all stay injury free.

Comment #32Ian…Pretence? How dare thee! 🙂
I honestly didn’t think anyone stood out over the season.
Krul made some decent stops, but missed large parts of it and looked a little shakier than normal.
Colo I explained before.
Cisse would be up there and I put a fair amount of his woes down to lack of support etc, but still struggle to say he’s had a good season.
Marv has looked great at times, but too often goes missing in games.
So basically, I am on the fence. Yawn.

Comment #40Apparently Ashley is just about to spend £40.5 million on buying a 51% stake in some Austrian Sports Company.
How convenient it happens to be just after NUFC lands him around £45 million!
Call me a sceptic if you like but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if our transfer budget just disappeared over the alps!
£4.5 plus whatever we get for outward moving players sounds about right for Ca$hley’s budget doesn’t it.
And don;t give me the bollox that all his companies are seperate. If Mike makes money he spends it on what he wants, when he wants, which is his prerogative but he always seems to have priorities far more important to him than our football club-after all he’s already “maximised all revenue streams” here hasn’t he as we’re regularly spoon fed off that scum Lambiarse!!!!
