St. Mirren To Play English Giants – Newcastle United – In July

You’ve got to take the compliments where you can find them, and there’s a very good article in the Paisley Daily Express today on Newcastle United.

St Mirren's Conor Newton and Paul Dummett celebrate

Conor Newton and Paul Dummett – played great at St. Mirren

It’s announcing the upcoming friendly between the two clubs who play in black and white stripes, Newcastle and St. Mirren, and Newcastle are referred to as the English Giants – I spelled giant with a capital G – it looks better.

Of course two of our youngsters did very well up there on loan last season, Paul Dummett and Conor Newton, and both have been offered deals by both Newcastle and St. Mirren, and they are still to decide who to sign for, with Celtic also said to be interested.

Paul played 36 times with two goals and Conor played 20 times with 3 goals out on loan, and our two lads helped St. Mirren win the Scottish Communities League Cup for the first time ever, beating Hearts 3-2 in the final.

And unfortunately Hearts seem to be struggling financially, as they are finding it hard to pay their players and keep the club afloat, and they could go into bankruptcy (administration) and they have just put all their players up for sale, to try to bring some money in – it’s all so sad.

The friendly game is on Tuesday, July 30th, and the relationships between Newcastle and St. Mirren very good, and hopefully some of our top youngsters can keep going north, to get some first team playing experience in the future.

And Alan Pardew said that he will field a strong side on that day, and we should – because it’s expected to be a sell-out crowd at St. Mirren and the tickets are £15 each.

It’s good that at least some people think we are English Giants – after struggling so much this year in the Premier League, but maybe we can earn that title next year, by fishing in the top six once again in the Premier League.

Here’s the article in the Paisley Daily Express – it’s worth a read – and it’s even better if you believe what you read is in fact true. 😀

I see Mr Pardew is planning on pitting his wits against football’s management elite then? He needs the practice to be fair.

Granted we should be getting a couple of games in against lower quality opposition for practice and good will but we are playing Blackpool, Motherwell, Gateshead, and St Mirren so far!

Hardly AC Milan and Corinthians is it? Just what the **** exactly have this shambles of an excuse for a NUFC board been doing for the last year?

Why not play in Brazil or India or China or New Zealand ffs? You know, promote the brand (like they always claim they want to) and get us some exciting fixtures to look forward to!

Its just bull5hit, after bull5hit, after bull5hit, after bull5hit with these clowns! Are they hellbent on turning our club into a completely uninteresting branding vehicle?

If Pardew uses his tactics of last season they will probably beat us.

If you want to promote the brand, get down to Nigeria, or out to Hong Kong, Thailand, China.

We have loads of fans in these places

I see Everton are playing in the US with Galaxy, Juventus, Milan, Real Madrid etc.

Why would we not do that?

Coz it’s cheap as chips to travel around England and Scotland playing sides that can let Pardew continue to perpetuate the myth that he knows what he is doing!

why is Pards so conservative, he’s got a 7 year contract and a top group of players, what’s he got to lose, plus we’re Newcastle Utd, we don’t sit back, we just don’t do it mate.

Couldn’t care less who we play pre season as long as everyone gets a good run out and is ready for the start of the season.

@Graeme – I hate all this rubbish that pre season is about “boosting the brand” and all these other business terms which have invaded football.

What happened to using pre-season to get the players fit and well prepared for the season? God knows we could’ve done with it last season.

    Outlandish I know…

The actual worrying thing playing St Mirren and Motherwell is the fact that they play much much better football than what we currently play and I am not joking!!

At least this means i might get to see the Toon if they play Rangers or Celtic as well

HI all just a thought if we got Bent and Defoe with Campbell and Long on the bench would that stop our long ball I wouldn’t mind that 4 sell cisse and buy Bent, Defoe, Long then worry about strikers in 2-3yrs time when Defoe and Bent r finished any thoughts? Anyway id like to let everyone know we r going to sign players just need to be patient work is going on in 3 country’s only bad news is Cabs looks gone PSG and Monaco r to bid with in the next 48hrs ive been told.

Newcastle should definitely be playing Celtic and why not European sides. Paris is just as close as Glasgow nowadays. Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam, it’s no more effort than a game in London.

Last time I was in Newcastle we had a home pre season fixture against Yeading FFS and they took the game to us we were so unenthused by the whole affair.

7 years ago Bent played for AP at Charlton – that is why the STORY appeared in the TELEGRAPH

    – all the evidence you need to convince thousands of fans to get themselves in a state for weeks ….don’t panic …don’t panic. .

50 plus years of watching the toon, but i think i have had enough now.
Been through bad times before, but none as bad as what we are now seeing. We have settled for survival in Prem.league nothing more.We dont want europe,we dont want to win a cup, judging by last seasons efforts.Total lack of ambition.

We could just make st Mirren our satelite club, and start investing money in them !

Chelski have done the same with Arnhem Vitesse !
