Shola Ameobi is still thinking over his options about whether he wants to leave his home town club to get more playing time at some other club next season.
Shola Ameobi – could leave this summer
But if Shola moves he will be the fifth English player we will have lost in the last two years after Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Danny Simpson and Steve Harper have moved on.
Danny signed for QPR on a three year deal this week, and Steve Harper has not yet been fixed up with a new club – but maybe this is why Alan Pardew is saying we need more home based players in the squad and with Premier League experience.
If Shola moves he’s the fifth one to leave and we are bringing in French players to replace them – because they are the best bargains on the continent – in other words they are the cheapest option.
But three more English players could also leave Newcastle this summer.
James Perch could be moved out this summer, since he has only one year left on his contract, and Newcastle will need to either extend his contract or sell him this summer, if they don’t want to lose him next summer, when he becomes a free agent.
And two others are Mike Williamson and Dan Gosling, and if they do leave along with Perch and Ameobi, that will be eight English players we will have lost in a short two years – so that’s obviously Alan Pardew’s concern.
Come September we could have lost Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Danny Simpson, Steve Harper, Shola Ameobi, James Perch, Dan Gosling and Mike Williamson since July of 2011.
There seems something wrong with that.
