The French web-site Leprogress.fr is reporting that Borussia Dortmund may have moved in for Newcastle’s number one transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of St. Etienne.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Dortmund moving in?
This is what was on the webs-site – using the Google translate facility and some additions to make things a little clearer:
It seems that the case of the ASSE Aubameyang is that Dortmund is moving ahead … slowly. Too slowly in the eyes of the Gabonese striker who nevertheless wishes to be fixed up with a club as soon as possible.
The positions of the two clubs are they so still apart? Still, a commissioned officer from Dortmund has arrived in Saint-Etienne.
At the same time the proposal of the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala is probably the most interesting for ASSE, but it does not appeal to Aubameyang.
It’s interesting that a poll on le10sport.com last week had Borussia Dortmund the favorites to sign the Gabon International with something over 30% of the vote, and Newcastle had around 12%.
But there was news in the Journal this morning that Joe Kinnear was trying to persuade Mike Ashley to increase Newcastle’s bid they made last week of £15M, which was turned down by St. Etienne.
Anzhi have already bid around £2M higher than Newcastle, but as the above report suggests, we don’t think Aubameyang is too interested in moving to Russia.
But with training starting up again this week for most Premier League clubs, things will be heating up in the transfer market, so we hope our new Director of Football Joe Kinnear is on the ball.

Comment #82This season we have record breaking sponsorship deal and a record breaking tv deal.
Yet will we spend money? I doubt it unless we sell.
Well thats ok because at least our debt has been going down as we must be paying it off.
Er no.
Debt has increased since mike ashley took over and even if you don’t include the purchase price it is 130 million.
It has gone up since 2008.
Never mind though at least we are getting sponsorship from all the sports direct sponsorship plastered everywhere. Whats that? Its free?
All BS.
Mike ashley is not the saviour of our club, he is the parasite we need rid of the most and then the rest will follow.
And I couldnt care less if hes a billionaire. F*** off ashley.

Comment #83Ben3 – yeah it’s very strange! He was unveiled shirt in Hand at half time, along with 2 other players (Mbokani being one) and all seemed well.
Now l’equip are saying he made a mistake and they can’t confirm from the club that a contract was actually signed?!?! It’s bizarre.
Morning Geordie – No nothing new from yesterday I’m afraid. All very cloak and dagger.

Comment #85So are we still signing pea? Or is it only when he is holding up a dortmund shirt that people will realise he was never going to come here.

Comment #86Jono – Until he is holding up a shirt or any kind, nobody will truly know what is going on.

Comment #87The other player unveiled by Dynamo Kyiv with Belhanda was Jermain Lens, would have been a great signing for us

Comment #88Wow that is interesting Torq.
Back to work for you after your jollys? Time to flash the key ring boss.
The melt down on Vanquier via twitter yesterday was hilarious. In January when he was rumoured to be coming it was met with apathy. Then yesterday everyone was kicking off. Even Mark Douglas the journo had said that he had spoken to vanquier s agent who had denied any nufc interest. And that’s day 1 of the window.

Comment #90No but using common sense would help.
Champions league team or a team who are bottom half of prem?
No contest.
Also he has had 2 good seasons in france, but before that he was loaned out all over the place, with no impressive goal tallies.
Im not sure if he will cut it in the prem

CL or not even Europe as our manager doesn’t want it!
Not a difficult choice really.

I think both JFK and Pardew are straight line thinking managers and haven’t got a creative, think outside the box ounce between them.

We were only ever linked to bony in the media. Club never confirmed we were after him. So why would there be an excuse? Relax. There is no point in us going for playera until all the rich clubs are done. Otherwise we will be out bid all the time. People know that this is the way our transfer windows are. No point in getting frustrated on july 2nd.

Comment #95I can’t understand the endless reference to hoofball comments which i guess are essentially about the “right way to play the game.”
Surely the “right” way to play football is the way that uses the best attributes of the team to the most positive effect. If you have forwards who are quicker than their opposing defenders, then long or direct passing over their heads into space is a good tactic. If you have a strong striker and midfielders who can shoot accurately from distance, then a long pass for the big man to hold up while the shooters take aim makes sense. I am not thinking of the toon but just making a general observation as it appears of more interest than the constant regurgitation of hoofball hoofball which is plain boring.
Surely we should wait to see what signings are made and what formation(s) we play before condemning our season to the trash can!

Comment #97Surely it depends on what kind of long ball ( hoofball to the clueless) i am told by the oficionado types that Glenn Hoddle played superb long balls. So did Hristo Stoichkov. It was the best pass in David Beckham’s repertoire, and Alonso makes good use out of it too. But the hoof-it-to-safety long ball? The hopeful whacked-up-field-late-in-the-game long ball? Surely they have as much place in the game as two-footed, studs-up tackles.

Comment #99Mike can have his return on his initial investment and clearance of the debt if and when he sells. Until then he might also want to consider his ethical obligation to provide value for money to and respect for his loyal fan base and to represent the club and therefore region with dignity.

Comment #100Ian Toon…not wanting to stick the hoof in but would you say with the players we have the we are suited to the long ball game…do we have a Stoichkov or a Hoddle or Beckham…do we have the strong centre forward or that lightening quick striker who can also fight off the three CB’s marking him because the supporting midfield are 30 yards away.
With the players we have what type of system do you think we are better suited to.

Comment #102Spark – We have a Cabaye who when fit is as good as anyone at picking a pass. Playing 4-3-3 – comprising Tiote and Sissoko + Cabs.

LIVERPOOL are not targeting former Newcastle target Mamadou Sakho
and I here he’s still unsure of entering a new contract with psg due to playing time as discussed the other day, maybe one to shore up the defence.
also have you heard anything of yohan’s dad trying to instigate a move the opposite way

Comment #104Galtierrez – not that I’m a big one for theories, but that tweet from PEA is interesting.
1) Destination unknown in English
2) Apparently David Craig in Newcastle today After postponing his meeting with Graeme Bailey.
3) PEA is only around 30miles from Dortmund from where he plys his trade. Surely a chopper or car would be more practical?!
Or it could just all be tw@tter rubbish again?!?! 🙂
Believe…

Comment #105I saw Stoichkov play at St James’ for Bulgaria in the Euros. He was lightning fast and brutally ferocious for 90 minutes. I was mesmerized by him, never more so than in injury time when he stood for the entire period motionless with hands on hips in apparent disdainful and contemptuous protest over his teammates lack of capacity for the game. While his manager sat passively looking on allowing him to get away with it without a murmur or even a sideways glance. Hristo Stoichkov, my f@cken hero.

Comment #106Ian…I agree completely we have to wait to see who we have available us especially when the example you made of the passing midfielder is the one we are most likely to lose.
I think with the players we have available to us the 4-5-1 morphing into 4-3-3 is the formation most of us would like to see and most of us feel is better suited to the payers we have…but last year Pardew played long ball which is why I asked the question what you think would be our best set up with the players we have
