With Newcastle looking like they may be running out of striker options in the transfer window, wouldn’t Salmon Kalou, the former Chelsea striker, be a good buy for around £3M?
Salomon Kalou – worth an inquiry
That’s the price that West Ham are supposed to be prepared to offer for the 6’1″ 57 times capped Ivory Coast striker (21 goals), according to L’Equipe.
And Kalou turns 28 early next month, and it looks like Spanish club Valencia could be moving in fast for the striker, according to Sky Sports this afternoon.
Kalou left Chelsea for Lille on a free transfer last summer, and last season in the French league he played 37 times for Lille and scored 16 goals with 6 assists.
But the big problem with this player could be his wage demands, and we suppose they would not fit into Newcastle’s fairly restrictive wage limits.
But the fee would not be large, and this lad has already proven he can score goals in the Premier League, and while at Chelsea he played 251 games for the London club and scored 60 goals but also had 40 assists.
We must get a top striker though the door this summer, and that can be Loic Remy (even if it’s only on loan) or Bafetimbi Gomis, but either of those plus Salomon Kalou would be good.
What we’d really like to see is both Remy and Gomis through the door this summer, but the chances of that happening seem to be very low at the moment.
Surely at least an inquiry to Lille and Kalou’s representatives would be worthwhile?

Comment #1Anyone besides Carl Cort is an improvement on Shola.
But no. I don’t like him.

Comment #3Last year would have been the time. He is a decent player. Quick and knows where the net is. Would have been worth some extra wages. Missed the boat on this one, as high wages and a fee will no doubt be out of the question

You can make unlimited transfers until 11.30 on the first day of the season. So it’s probably worth picking your team now so it’s registered and you’ve at least got a team if you forget…then you can make as many changes as you want as late as that morning in case there are some exciting transfers in.

Must say I too get the feeling that Ashley’s setting the club for an attempt at selling. Maybe not an active, high profile sale but I suspect he’d be open to sensible offers.
Why do J say that? There’s been no major outlay on players thus window, the squad’s costs are being reduced through sales, contract ends and outgoing loans.
JfK’s appointment spoke volumes and I’d guess he’ll be on a relatively low paid fixed-term or easily terminated contract so as not to lace a new owner with that particular overhead on the books.
As far as incoming players are concerned, if we see loans coming in (loanees would be a revenue expense on the books, rather than a capital one… I think), maybe that may add weight to a potential sale.
So, where to? In any event, we must get behind the ream and the manager – after all, the more successful the team, the more attractive we could be to a potential buyer. We certainly don’t need protests or demonstrations of disatisfaction – we don’t want a potential buyer not being keen on buying hostile supporters!
Fingers crossed and hope for a good season this year.
On that note, I’m getting into the cellar before the bombs start flying toward me!!

I’ve seen a few posts saying that it was when we changed 4-3-3 into 4-4-2 that it cost us the CL well i think you need to check your history books because it was during that 10 game unbeaten streak we were using 4-4-2. the team was
simmo saylor colo raylor
marvo cabaye Guthrie Jonas
ba best
then things change at city and we started going 4-5-1
simmo saylor colo raylor
HBA cabaye Guthrie Jonas
Sammy
ba
when we played united in January we went back to 4-4-2 and got a couple of wins but then things changed against Fulham and we went 4-2-3-1 and lost 5-2
if i am lying about any of this then the official Newcastle site is lying too.
as for the champions league itself well even if we did finish 4th we still would not be allow to have played in the CL as Chelsea took that spot.

Comment #15Why the obsession with Bent? He’s the same player as Cisse without the stunning goals. They can’t play together it’s obvious. Bent is injury prone and has lost his pace due to it.

Seems we still havn’t decided who we want here..
Sporadic bids in for players for fun.
Lol, what they doing?
Bent
Kone
Remy
Gomis
Niang.
There gambling again and we all know how that normally affects are season.
Players are starting to speak up, it’s in danger of damaging morale just like last summer going into the new season for the players.
I really don’t know why they do it. So unprofessional.
Bewildering.

You never know, a new owner might thing that Pards is the best thing since sliced bread and insist he and his cronies are included in the deal.
Well, it is possible I suppose…..?

Comment #22Same pattern right through, we will no doubt be looking to getting Gomis in January when the cost goes down, we follow a pattern at NUFC, its pure business but it is awful day after day when we get the trying to get them over the line patter. may be the most frustrating “so far” transfer window I can remember and that’s saying something, we need a few bedded in before the season starts, Pardew has already stated how shola n Jonas are vita!?!? aaarrrgghhh, iknow how MA does business normally, I got it wrong sayin 3/4 would be in in the window, of course someone may come in, but the hardball tactics, make it so hard for us to stomach as fans, its bad enough for me so it must be worse again for the fans who detest MA, I can understand that totally, it has pe.d me off no end this window like no other, every day there is a wee bit of hope of a signing, followed by a kick in the stones, at this moment in time I cannot trust our team or Manager, we on paper have very good players but I have no faith that AP can utilise them positively on the pitch, its all going to be the good the bad and the ugly I just cannot see consistency with the way Pardew sets the team up, at this moment I am not particulary looking forward to the new campaign, just get a few over the line for god sake, and stop big upping the likes of shola n Jonas, you nerk, Pardew!!
YEA I KNOW AP IS TOWING THE LINE TRANSFERS WISE, BUT I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE BLOKE TO GET THE PLAYERS TO PRODUCE ON A CONSISTANT BASIS WITH HIS MINDSET OF GOING ON A PREMIERSHIP PITCH MAKING SURE WE DONT LOOSE RATHER THAN GOING FOR THE WIN, ESPECIALLY AT HOME HE DOES THIS AND SETS US UP THE SAME AS AWAY, TOTALLY INFURIATING.

we have loads of options concerning players coming through, the main problem is that that fat greedy bastard MA won’t get any players in, he’s a billionaire who can’t afford a few million on top players within the range of about 5-14 million, instead as i said before he will go for rejects with no sale on value until he sells the club leaving the new chairmen with no profit to receive when selling current players and bringing in new players

niang looks a very good prospect and expect him in along the lines of santon tbh ad high price dev player but good enough to go into 1st team (even though last season was a poor one for him)
that 22yo nigerian nwafor looks a better option though as he’s more ready to come straight into first team.

Comment #40There was no denying we thought that business genius Mike Mashley may have just got it right with his shrewd investments even though we got lucky with a lack of injuries to our threadbare defence, unfortunately that’s all it was just luck and there was no magic formula and a drive to take us forward just a plan that was being made up as they went along, the saddest part is that there was money to be spent when it was to save us from relegation and doing my least favourite phrase “a Leeds” , why could money be spent to save an investment instead of progressing it.
