The Newcastle United U21 side, which included a number of players with first team experience, could only draw 1-1 with Everton at St James’s Park last night, and the Newcastle goal was scored by 17 year-old Adam Armstrong, who is an exciting local prospect at the club.
Adam Armstrong – top young prospect at Newcastle
The game gave a chance for some of our players to get some match practice, and players like Dan Gosling, Paul Dummett, James Tavernier, Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic all got a run-out.
But it was 17-year-old Adam Armstrong, who put the home side went ahead just before half time, with a tremendous goal, after good work from both Vuckic and Adam Campbell.
And Newcastle were then guilty of missing lots of chances, and paid for it when Hallam Hope equalized for Everton in the 70th minute.
There’s still a good chance that some of the players who saw action last night will go out on loan this season.
Players like Haris Vuckic, Adam Campbell and James Tavernier need to play first team games, but Adam Armstrong will remain at the club, as he gets more experience playing in the Newcastle U21 side, at such a young age.
Adam has been compared to Wayne Rooney, because of his style of play and his build, and that cannot be bad.
This is the Newcastle side that played last night.
Jak Alnwick, James Tavernier, Paul Dummett, Gael Bigirimana, Lubomir Satka, Macaulay Gillesphey, Haris Vuckic (Rolando Aarons 83), Dan Gosling, Adam Campbell, Adam Armstrong, Sammy Ameobi.
Subs not used: Heardman, Mitchell, Gilliead, Quinn

houghton was a good manager though, we were looking safe on our return to the league and the players and fans all liked him.
I could understand it if he was sacked and they appointed a much better manager but Pardew (a side ways step). As munster says he is one of the boys and says what he is told and doesn’t kick up a fuss. Nothing will change my mind on that.

How many premiership managers get fired and then walk into another Premiership team? Not many…..and not straight away. I do not think that its an indictment that CH went to Birmingham. Personally I think the man is a saint, very dignified and he deserved better IMO. Is AP an upgrade in terms of ability/ track record etc…..I’m not so sure….time will tell.

Comment #84TDS, I presume you were one of the Defenders of Ashley Even When He Does Stupid Things brigade (!) , who came on here defending the renaming of your sacred ground. And yes, it was renamed. The media renamed it, print Tv and electronic….putting a red stripe in the shirt could give other marketing revenue you know …..but then you will tell us that the jersey is still 66% black and white and we are still NUFC etc etc….somewhat tongue in cheek but nothing is beyond him!

there was no logic behind the sacking of Hughton other than he was his own man, with his own voice and Ashley could not control him in the way he can with Pardew. I cannot see Hughton coming out with the party line every week the way that Pardew does

It is interesting how he judges some aspects extremely quickly, yet plays “wait and see” when it suits him to.
The goal posts are moved, and moved again, he claims he always stands by his word, but in defending Mike Ashley he has already went back on his word. He claimed he would be vocally critical of Ashley if we had a bad window (4/10 by his reckoning) but now he claims that it was Kinnear’s fault that we had a poor transfer window. How he worked that one out is beyond me.
The 4 game thing may be a bit harsh on him but the general point stands.

Comment #92TDS, Hughton bought us up with practically a record points total I think ….the club was an absolute dogs dinner and he steadied us well. Meantime, its Ashley who stopped us dropping like Leeds, not Hughton. And then we stuff Sunderland, and we sack him. I suppose I’m being parochial now, even though I’m not a Geordie.

This guy defends the indefensible, sacking Hughton, the hiring of Wise thus making Keegan’s job impossible, and stoops so low to try and justify the renaming of our ground! Insanity.
As for Kinnear, he’s an idiot, we all know that, but there are bound to be hundreds of players queueing up for the chance to play PL football, especially for a passionately supported side like Newcastle United, so with a bit of cash of course he could have got a few good players in.

Yesterday it was insanity to lay 100% of the blame at Ashley’s door for what had happened at the club and that it was the Keegan, Hughton, Kinnear, Shearer and players who were to blame…………………….???

Renaming the ground was a stupid move but at the same time if that had generated the 10-20mil a year to get us a big player each year people might have grumbled but left him to it.
The fact it was used to advertise his own company just took the mick.

Comment #100Actually, I think the striker situation does need to be sorted in January and ideally with Remy fully signed and then another. But the league is completely imbalanced when you look at the big clubs hoarding players.
I watched Moses for Liverpool last night and thought why on earth would Chelsea loan a player to a close competitor. At the same time, Lukaku is loaned to Everton (not a close competitor) and they buy Eto. Just bizarre moneybags.

There has to be a change to the rule of loaning players, as last season Chelsea had £120 million pounds worth of players out on loan

True but the loan system is very well used in the most part. Players get experience and if they can’t get a first team spot get to audition somewhere else.
I agree it means clubs like chelsea buy up a lot of young talent and then ruin it, players go to the clubs for a big wage knowing they will get a loan if they dont play much…but not always the case for some and they end up rotting in reserves.
I’d have a limit of how many players you can have on your books over the age of 21/22….that way you need to either release players to go get games and you can’t stockpile too many.

I think a limit on the amount of players any one club can have out on loan should be brought in as this would force clubs like Chelsea to be more selective in their signings. Also a ruling to limit the amount of foreign players under the age of 21 to force English clubs to develop more young English players

Comment #104Sure I remember Lee Marshall at the last FansUTD meeting saying there was money available to buy, he must have been mistaken as the money “available” was still in the bank apparently. From the meetings minutes:
“Several comments from the floor expressed displeasure at the press statement released by the club, attributed to Alan Pardew with regards to the club’s transfer business over the summer. Lee stated that it contained some ‘salient points’ in that there was money available for transfers, but that it was felt that the opportunities to bring the right players in at the right price did not occur. “

i dont want a loan cap as would maybe stop some kids getting a go, especially if you have a good academy.
I’d like a cap on amount as then players need to be moved on or not signed in the first place.
No sure the best way though, yours might work better…just something needs to be done.

Comment #106transfer- i’m sorry but that is where you are wrong. the players you mention wanted to leave , nothing was going to make them stay , no amount of money – breaking the bank , was not an option , the clubs trid to keep them . even at 100m spurs still said no, but bale was adament he wanted out , RVP wanted out, nothing was going to stand in their way, – that is the difference. ashley didnt even try to convince cabs to stay , no offer – nothing , that is the difference, if another 5M had been put on thre table ash would have snapped his hand off , not turn round and say – sorry not for sale, no attempt by our owner to keep him IF another few quid was offered that is the difference betweemn ashley and the owners of the top 4 clubs. the only reason bale and the likes moved on was because their respective owners had tried every thing to keep them but knew it was time up when all avenues to keep them had been exhausted

And how can Ashley ever be successful in football when he does’nt state his aims or what success means to him.

We never did need a lot of new faces but we are still two, possibly three, players short of a strong squad with a reserve tank. We are still weak in attack, need a wee bit more width and more midfield creativity.
Another CB to upgrade Willo would have been nice too, but he is okay as 4th man.
The Scumderland model has backfired – as did our 5 players in Jan who then took time to gel.
Another two players and it would have been a very succesful window – but the sheer lack of ambition of the owner is the shining light now.

Comment #110Keegan since he left the first time has always been flaky. Shearer was a desperate move by Ashley to pacify the fans despite Alan being good at motivation he was tactically lacking and Dowie didn’t help much. Hughton was a gent and did us proud but was his own man – much respect.
Pardew is Ashleys man, Pardews misdemeanour s at Southampton involves wives of execs and players allegedly and they were playing well. Similar situation at west ham too.
Time will tell but would like the owner/any owner to show that there is some ambition as success generates greater revenue.

hardly selling our heritage, clubs move to new stadiums but still carry on a great tradition, the name change isn’t pleasant but if it got us success or good players on the pitch people would soon forget it..or be much less concerned with it.
