With Newcastle now without captain Fabricio Coloccini for around eight weeks, it looks like Cheick Tiote will get an extended spell as the stand-in Newcastle captain, and certainly if the Liverpool game is anything to go by, that will be good for Cheick and for Newcastle.
Cheick Tiote – in excellent form
Cheick had another very good game on Saturday, and he was our man of the Match with a good 42.7% of the vote, and the Ivorian even had a decent chance to score in that second half following a Newcastle breakaway, and wouldn’t that have been something if we had managed to snatch the win – but hey – a point was excellent in the circumstances.
Alan Pardew had been hesitant to restore Yohan Cabaye to captain after what happened at the beginning of the season, so Check surprisingly wore the armband, and it seems the manager wants more of the same out of his 41 times capped Ivory Coast International:
“I was really pleased with him against Liverpool.” “We need him at this level.” “Cheick has replaced Colo. That is what we have needed.”
“He’s playing by example rather than saying too much.” “Cheick is playing by example and putting in a real shift.” “We need more of it.”
Cheick is approaching his best form at Newcastle, and the 27 year-old now has 90 appearances for the side with that one stupendous late goal against Arsenal in that unforgettable 4-4 draw, when we were 4-0 down after 26 minutes, and scored four goals in the last 26 minutes, in the greatest comeback in Premier League history.
We made headlines around the world for that fantastic comeback.
And here’s the video of the Tiote goal, and we guarantee you will feel a lot better after watching the goal once again.

I gonna be betting on us scoring more goals than that .. 0-3
Glad to see Tiote back on track .. So many had him written off last Seaso, wanting him sold or given away.
Funny how things map out ..

Tiote has stopped doing is pirouettes, hence not losing ball that often. He did lose the ball against LFC. Could have given a penalty in opening few minutes when Jhonson went down
