Italian Club Preparing January Bid For Newcastle Star

There is news today coming out of Italy that Roma may be serious in their attempts to take Yohan Cabaye to the Italian club in January, with Italian daily Corriere dello Sport reporting they are getting a bid ready for the January transfer window.

Newcastle United v Liverpool - Barclays Premier League

Yohan Cabaye – Newcastle playmaker wanted in Italy

It’s not the first time Roma have been linked with the French playmaker in the last couple of months, and Cabaye’s former coach at Lille, Rudi Garcia knows all about Yohan’s capabilities, and Rudi has made a great start at Roma and has them one point clear of Italian Champions Juventus after 12 games played.

Cabaye played for Garcia for a number of seasons at Lille, and they own the French title in 2011, and it was then that Newcastle brought Cabaye to Newcastle for a paltry €5M, which was the release clause in his Lille contract.

Garcia has credibility with the Roma management, but they will need to come up with around £20M if they want to sign Yohan this summer, after Arsenal’s £11M bid in August was flatly rejected by Newcastle.

And if Yohan does move to Italy in January, which we seriously doubt, then Joe Kinnear will need to have another top midfielder lined up for the Tyneside club – just in case.

Cabaye has played 83 times for Newcastle with 13 goals and 13 assists, and he’s been in good form this season.

Comments welcome.

Do Milner, Enrique, Ba, and Bassong not count.

G…alot of talk about him being a great prospect and all that, but I must say I honestly don’t know 🙂

…maybe with the right nurturing he could be great (hence stay away from us 😉 lol )

    WW…,
The replacement was bought last year in Anita, why else would a midfielder have been bought to sit on the bench in a team desperate for defenders.

    Jail,

Why would a tight bstad like Ashley buy Cabaye’s replacement and still have Cabaye here 18 months later?

Your replies are becoming very predictable so try something other than as soon as Ashley’s price is met he’ll be off.

It hasn’t been met for the last three windows.

    Bills,
It was a gamble that never paid off, like the gamble that by not buying we’d finish tenth but nearly got us relegated.

    Bills,
You’ve gone back to being very defensive about our portly owner after saying you’d admit to being an idiot for supporting him for so long if he never spent in the summer.

He will sign a couple in January maybe on loan who knows, but the league position doesn’t lie and were sitting canny at the minute. Some people just like a moan on. Let them get on with it and see how we get on

Totally agree. We got good money for those players except possibly Ba, and all have failed at the clubs they went to with the exception of Milner who only succeeded by moving again.
£8million for Bassong, who is not a premiership defender, was hilarious. Lets not forget, he even REFUSED to play for us at Dundee. Good riddance.

If he goes replace him with Milner. I bet city would let him go and he’d be great in that central attacking role. He’s got guile and work rate, perfect.
While they’re on they could get lescott too.

Notwithstanding personal ambition for trophies – another Toon problem over the decades – I think players do actually decide on which club to go to on the basis of the financial package being offered – and the Toon are not actually hi-rollers.
For example, it’s a bit naive to think Ba left us just for the chance to play Champs League…

We were relegated because our exulted leader ballsed every decision up, Milner’s sale was his first slap in the face of KK

    Jack,
Yes indeed you are correct on both points. As far as we know Cabaye also refused to play and that’s why if he leaves and we get a fair price I won’t shed any tears.
Bassong was player of the year when we got relegated so I don’t think he had a lot of competition. But I think, and it is only my opinion, that he has been really poor for the clubs he has gone to since, even at mediocre Norwich.
Any player who won’t put the shirt on when they are being paid loses respect, even if they want to leave.
