Well would you believe it – after Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said they wouldn’t appeal Loic Remy’s red card at Norwich, because referee Chris Foy had little choice but to send both Loic Remy and Norwich’s Bradley Johnson off after their flagrant confrontation late in that game – news today that Newcastle are to appeal the red card after all.
Loic Remy – Bradley Johnson confrontation on Tuesday
That follows yesterday’s news that Norwich would be appealing Johnson’s red card – but those Alan Pardew comments will seriously affect any chance Newcastle will have of getting the red card overturned.
Here’s what Alan said after the game about the incident:
“There was a bit of pushing and shoving,” “The players have come together, and there is probably just enough for the referee to send them off.”
“But Johnson’s reaction to the heads meeting, in terms that he got a head-butt when he did not, was the catalyst for them both to get sent off.”
“It was his own fault, and if he had not done that, maybe the referee would have taken a more lenient view, but he made such a drama out of it. He should be ashamed of himself really.”
“We won’t appeal because I think there was enough for Chris Foy there. Once Johnson had done that stupid reaction and the crowd went mad, referee Foy had no choice really.”
Those comments will hardly help Newcastle win their appeal – but we suppose in retrospect Newcastle thought it was at least worth a try. – Loic Remy will be a huge loss over the next three games.
The news has just gone up on the Newcastle United web-site and this is what it says:
Newcastle United can confirm that the Club has lodged an appeal with the Football Association for the wrongful dismissal of Loic Remy during Tuesday’s Barclay’s Premier League fixture with Norwich City at Carrow Road.
Remy was sent off in the 82nd minute after having a confrontation with Bradley Johnson, when they both pushed each other, and it all went downhill from there – and the Norwich man was also sent off.
We think there’s little chance of having the red card overturned – but we hope we’re wrong on that.
However, there’s a danger the FA may think the appeal is frivolous, and in that case Loic could get a four match ban. 🙁
What do you think?

Comment #81we are about to turn into a club of loan deals and selling players who can’t resist big offers – this is the main concern imo not if we sign one or sell another player

Comment #84Lyon are skint so I think we were right to go in with ridiculously low offer first.
Also thy are in a similar situation to we were with cabaye as grenier only has two years left on his contract, his value will only depreciate from here, meaning he will be worth even less in the summer.
I can see us getting him before January is out.

Comment #87I don’t have a problem with selling Cabaye – he clearly wanted to leave. What boils my p*ss is we’ve known he was leaving for months and should have had clear target replacements lined up. First choice, second choice etc. If Grenier doesn’t want to come then we should move on to our second choice etc. but there just seems to be no plan of action.

Comment #94There seems to be some support for Percy in that he is trying to do his best and is continually being undermined by JFK and the evil Mr Tubbs. Also that Percy knew nothing of the PSG interest until the last minute. The fact that Cabaye nipped of back to Paris when he was “injured” a few weeks ago is just sheer coincidence and nothing to to with PSG. Equally it now appears that Percy has some magical powers in respect of seeing into the future -several weeks ago he predicted transfer activity in the last week of the window. In view of the fact that Percy has, in the opinion of some, been badly maligned and as a consequence a group has been set up to support him. The founder members of this group are pictured below:-

Comment #99We must have offered 7m first and then 9m.
If lyon can sell Gourcuff for 7-8m then they would hold out for Grenier as much as possible.

Comment #111Remy Appeal – my understanding WAS that by appealing a sending off you were then eligible to play the next game. However the authorities realised there was some sharp practice going on so they decided to thwart these shenanigans by getting an FA Regulatory Committee to sit immediately to decide upon the appeal.
I understand that in respect of the Remy appeal a Committee is sitting later today. I really fail to see the logic of the appeal -it was a clear sending off.

I seen that young french striker we were linked with has also been linked with Watford. Why shop at Morrisons when Home Bargains is round the corner eh Mikey?!

Comment #113Not sure if this has already been mentioned but new rules this season means that any appeal with have to be heard before the next match and any decision taking will be before next match. The reason for this is that clubs have used this loop hole as to ensure players don’t miss key games.
Bottom line its a big risk which probably isn’t worth taking
