It’s been a terrible week for Newcastle fans, first of all in the transfer market we sold Yohan Cabaye to PSG for a reported £20M (that could turn out to be only €20M) and failed to replace him, and then on Tuesday night Loic Remy was sent off with Bradley Johnson, yet on appeal the FA in their wisdom rescinded Johnson’s red card but let Remy’s stand – so he is out for the next three games, including the game against Sunderland tomorrow.
And when we were beaten 2-1 at the Stadium of Light earlier in the season, that was the first time we have lost two successive games to Sunderland since 1967, when Joe Harvey was managing the club.
And it’s not like Sunderland are a good side either, and they have been fighting relegation for the last two seasons and on Wednesday got out of the bottom three for the first time since last August.
And the last time we lost three times on the trot to Sunderland was way back in 1923, when a certain Edward Harrison and Lilian Oliver were born in Byker and St Anthony’s Estate respectively – and they turned out to be my parents.
So given the week we have gone through, there is no way Newcastle can lose this game, and in fact we must win the game tomorrow.
On the injury front it looks like Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse are still doubtful for this game, so we assume they will not make it, and of course captain Fabricio Coloccini is still out with that knee injury of his.
So Yohan Cabaye, Loic Remy and Yoan Gouffran are missing tomorrow afternoon, and they have scored 25 goals between them for Newcastle this season, so we wonder where the goals are coming from, and we didn’t manage to score on Tuesday night with Remy in the side., even though we created a bucketful of chances.
With Newcastle playing so well with so little luck on Tuesday night at Norwich, we wouldn’t be too surprised if Alan plays almost the same side, but Loic Remy will need to be replaced.
Alan Pardew has said he will not start Luuk de Jong so we suppose the only alternative would be to bring in Shola Ameobi – but Shola hasn’t scored any Premier League goals this season, but he can be a Sunderland slayer – and this would be a (very) good time to start scoring some PL goals.
This is what the team could be tomorrow:
Krul
Debuchy Williamson Taylor (S) Santon
Tiote (c) Sissoko Anita
Ameobi (Sa) Ameobi (Sh) Ben Arfa
Subs: Elliot Yanga-Mbiwa Dummett Gosling Marveaux Obertan de Jong
Sissoko and Anita will have to play well in midfield, and we know Tiote will give everything he has as captain of Newcastle for the first time against Sunderland.
And we’d love to see Luuk de Jong come on in the second half, and he’s really got nothing to lose – and if he scores he will be an instant hero on Tyneside.
Luuk seems such a smashing lad, and he’ll get great support form the Newcastle fans, we’re sure of that.
And 47% of Newcastle fans think we can win this game tomorrow.
The last thing we want is another defeat, that would be unbearable.
And in our last six games we have lost four (in a row) and since then won one and drawn one – and in the last five league games we have only 4 points – so we really need to get back to our winning ways tomorrow.
And after this pathetic transfer window, let’s remember that saying “support the team if not the regime” true – and those at the game – give the lads all the support you can give tomorrow.
And let’s hope they can deliver the goods.

Comment #4JFA, I understand what you are saying mate, and like you, I can identify the problem, but I honestly do not know the solution. The ideas suggested will either hurt working class people trying to eke out a living working for the club, or by staging the sit in, cause us further embarrassment and probably dissuade potential signings coming to us. As much as I am in favour of the sentiment, I simply do not have the solution mate.

Comment #5G,I know what your saying but surely how can we put up with this, people will now say what you on about Jail we’re eighth, but this is as good as it gets.I saw a poster called Harley genuinely believes that we tried to sign Cabayes replacement, is he the type of person that, when an Indian or Nigerian cold caller rings and tells him his computer has a virus he hands over his credit card details immediately to have it sorted out.

Comment #7Effectively our final important game of the season except for the basic amassing enough points to stay in the league.
I’d hate to think they have got a decent manager, we have to thrash them tomorrow, 3 losses in a row is unthinkable.

Comment #9JFA I believe we tried to sign Grenier….
But I am annoyed upon being denied by club or player or both we did not have a plan B or C.
Why not go for Siem? Cabella earlier? Wijnaldum? Gomis on the cheap?
We were static and that annoyed me. Especially with 20m in the bank plus that which was not spent in the summer from TV revenue, or Wonga sponsorship.
We pay to watch the team, I bleed black and white! But hell, I am so frustrated with the club from today and yday or rather this week, its a clear sign of lack of planning behind the scenes….
How DL got sacked and Kinnear isn’t going to be is beyond belief!
We actually signed some players under DL! Cisse, Cabaye, Santon, Debuchy, Sissoko, Gouffran, Obertan, Anita, Ba, Mbiwa, Haidara all came under is tenure as DoF …..
Supposedly those last Jan were MA buys, but who knows…. Still we wished he would go and now we are stuck with worse!

Comment #11JFA, reiteration – I don’t know the solution, but the possibilities suggested so far simply will not work. I’m just toughing it out until the fat man walks, or his heart packs in. One of them has to happen sooner or later.

I don’t rely on Shola ….. I’ve seen more movement in the Angel of the North!
He cannot pass, shoot, head, run, finish …..
He’s awful, always has been. Some indulge him because he is a “Geordie”
How can he be. Geordie when he is from Nigera …. His name isn’t even Shola its Foloshuwa or something like that!
…….. My hope lies in Ben Arfa, De Jong and Sissoko…. Those are our goal threats …. And Gouffran if fit. Possibly Debuchy ……

Comment #18As for the derby, well i’ve been saying it all day but I am confident and fancy us to hammer them (famous last words i said before the last two as well).
I genuinely think we have more than enough quality to put them to the sword. The pass around at the back with players not comfortable on the ball, that’s asking for trouble (cost them 3 points at home to villa).
If fit (i think he is, didn’t play due to bids more than injury) then i’d start cisse and de jong. Play a 4 man midfield of anita, tiote, sissoko and ben arfa, those two in the middle should deal with their lads easy enough and then let sissoko and ben arfa attack and support the fowards.
Or stick with the same plan as norwich but use cisse instead of remy (we got a lot of balls in the box in that game, cisse will do well playing like that).

Thanks again, I just try to keep things balanced, put things into perspective (sure not all will agree) but I like to hear what everyone has to say, regardless of opinions as even if somebody posts 100 daft posts they might post 1 good one (no offence kets) but i’d say everyone here has the same ambition and that’s to see us do well and win things just we all have different ideas.time scales/plans/tolerance levels etc.

T4C, try their best but too many people want to shoot them down as a tinpot organisation, at least they’re trying to get a reaction, we all want good results but as the lads at NUFC.com say we are becoming victims of tgebteams success, do ok, don’t buy, face relegation five signings, what we hoping for ?

Comment #21I stand by my earlier 3-nil prediction to the toon. I have, however, considered the scoring options, and I reckon it will be Shola to score first, HBA to score 2nd, and one of their spanking new Argies (Las Malvinas Est Anglais) will score an own goal.

Comment #22I recognize that Ashley saved the club financially and I have defended him for that time and time again…. I have never liked him or how he goes about being the owner of the greatest football club in the world with the greatest fan base, but I have always been grateful we didn’t do a rangers!!!! I am done defending, financially there was no reason to sale yahan, we are firm financially and with tv money coming are actually better off then almost every other club in the league… I could have understood saling yohan if we had a replacement lined up like normal clubs do but that’s not how he thinks…. Newcastle is a status symbol for him socially, and a money maker business wise via marketing his other endeavors…. It’s time to rid ourselves of this cancer… Alan pardew has my utmost respect, he has led this team through all this darkness and done a fantastic job in the most difficult times possible…. The players have been great as well, have to find a way to get rid of Ashley and not hurt the club in process…. Protests and the likes played a part in our relegation, we need to unite and all play the lottery so maybe one of us wins and can buy the club? I don’t know lads, I’m just tired of this idiot and want him out without harming out club!!!!!!

I’m looking forward to Pardews pre match comments on players….he seemed keen to get one in and wanted to invest the cabaye money. We’ll see if he just says we are fine til the summer or if he gets annoyed.
On a different note, anyone seen the car zaha was driving? he has far too much cash, heard moyes hated his attitude, apparently he thought he was a big shot, came in demanded the number 7 shirt, said he deserved to be starting, refused to play for the 21’s and also turned up late a few times….moyes has been strong and fair with him

Comment #26Like I said earlier JFA, I can see the problem, I don’t know the solution. For me, it’s a waiting game. The fans who are shouting for success now clearly haven’t followed Newcastle United for long enough. If they want instant success then they should jump on the Citeh / Chelski bandwagon, because frankly, I’m just a little bit pleased that we haven’t just chucked money we haven’t got at winning a paper trophy. That’s not sticking up for MA, thats having a well deserved dig at the fans of the teams like Blackburn, Chelsea, and Citeh who are small teams with big debts, who will never have my respect as real champions. Even Manyoo, Arsenal and Liverpool have that, but the moneybags mugs can rot as far as I’m concerned.

Comment #31Highly cynical here but any chance MA spends more on APs PR affairs than anything else. Does anyone think that JFK attends the same lessons but is a LITTLE SLOW on the uptake! A little like his signings eh? I shudder to think about this summer’s transfer window. Cabaye on record that he wouldn’t have left us if we were a CL club, shame MA has no desire to achieve that in the foreseeable future.

I always defend man city (not so much chelsea) as I think they have done things sensibly. They bought a heck of a lot at first but have slowed down the buying in recent windows as they now have a top squad…they could have done it slowly or quickly, either way they were going to improve.
But they also hired good people in key positions, managers, directors, even viera as ambassador is very good…they are building a huge academy and developing large areas around the ground to boost the local economy.
Man utd are very lucky in terms of them just happening to be at the top at the same time big tv sky deals started coming in, allowing them to get richer and richer so they could pull away from other sides. If another side had been dominant at that time then they would be the current big name in english football.

MA did actually turn us around, and we were very much playing with fire. We had a mountain of debts, so much so MA was still paying Real Madrid Michael Owen money on his arrival …. And in doing so also realised we had used up our sponsorship money before even receiving it!
We were a mess, I have seen it, trust me!
When we got relegated I think we were the 4th or 5th highest wage bill in PL!
