We Have Fallen Short As A Team And As Players

Newcastle are in decline this season, and in decline quickly since Boxing Day,  when we hammered Stoke City at St. James’ Park, after we were 1-0 down just before the break, but the referee sent two players off in three minutes and kindly awarded us a penalty, which we missed, but we still went on to thrash those nine men 5-1 in the second half.

Fabricio Coloccini +XAiDgHivPe-m

Captain Fab Coloccini –  must lead the turnaround

But since that game we have won only one game of the last nine, and failed to score in seven of those games – and we could be the worst side in the Premier League over the last few weeks – as far as our form goes – which has been terrible, and last night it was pathetic, and we were hammered 4-0 at home by Spurs.

Our Argentine center-back and captain Fabricio Coloccini has been badly missed at times like these, and he is recovering from a knee injury that has kept him out of the side since he freely walked off in the second half with a knee injury during the West Brom game, and that was shortly after Mathieu Debuchy had been sent off.

This is what captain Coloccini has told the Evening Chronicle today:

“We set ourselves standards as a team and as individual players, but we fell well short of that in the biggest game of the season,” “Everyone at the club was very disappointed in what happened.”

“We followed it by travelling to Chelsea and although our performance was much better, we suffered another 3-0 defeat. Not winning games recently has been tough for everyone.”

“But it is important to remember we are ninth in the division and have had some really good results this season.”

When you lose six of eight league games, fans don’t think of where we are – in 9th position – in the league – but rather where we could be if we had say won say six of those games.

Indeed if we had picked up 18 points from those last eight league games we’d be in 3rd place in the league, one point above Manchester City – so we were really well placed before the decline set in when we lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal in the final game of last year.

With determination, perseverance, guts and some fighting spirit thrown in – Newcastle players and manager Alan Pardew can quickly turn this thing around.

Our next game is against Aston Villa at home a week on Sunday – and we should have Coloccini, Remy and Tiote all back in the starting line-up – and it will be the strongest side we can field, with all players hopefully available.

Time to see how many men we have at Newcastle these days, who can stand up and be counted, in this great time of need at the Tyneside club.

    WelshGeordie,
So the only thing he has done wrong is the entire scope of his responsibilities. You are right, we should be congratulating him.

Does he have good players? If not, then you should add Graham Carr to the animosity aimed at Ashley and Kinnear. If you think he still has good players to choose from (10 full internationals in yesterdays match squad), then Pardew is at fault as well.

This doesn’t absolve Ashley, or the players, but just because they have done wrong doesn’t mean Pardew is absolved either.

    Santon,
You could be right, but I think we will be fine. I still think we will manage to keep a spot in top ten.

At the end of the day pardew can’t win what ever he does if we beat the top teams we are lucky and if we beat the smaller teams we are crap

See how would you do if had the chance to be the manager of this club for a month and see how well you would do and I bet you would be worse than pardew

    Dok,

I was referring only to the fact that the Texan War of Independence was fought to free the state from Mexican rule, rather than British.
I wasn’t calling you Speedy Gonzales or nowt 🙂

    Welsh,
What sort of an argument is that???? I also couldn’t have run Northern Rock but does that mean the people who took that under were the right people…

If you check back, you will see I have given Pardew credit when he has done well this season, but the bad far outweighs the good during his tenure here.

Pardew always has been and always will be his own worst enemy, agreed that he doesn’t have any help from above but he has never helped himself, if anything he makes a rod for his own back and then looks to blame anyone and everyone else

Never let yourself be confined to the back room Lilongwe mate! That’s horrific! Stagger into the front room immediately and demand to have an equal share of space with those wenches. Cough and whine a lot and they may put a more manly movie on as well.

People still rattle on about the “pro pardews”. There are no pro pardews. Opinion is divided between those who blame him for EVERYTHING on the pitch, and those who blame the players and fatman as well as pardew. The first group should not insult the second group, and vice versa. I was involved in a war of words earlier this week. During this time i was accused of licking pardews bottom. In reality, I was reacting against negativity towards other posters who were in group 2 (see above)
It was a waste of time.

All I’m saying is that it’s not easy being a football manager, if pardew had the funds in the summer and in January and got a couple of players in on top of what we got and kept cabaye I think we would be further up the league. Won’t there a few supporters on this blog said that we only need 2 or 3 players in but we didn’t get them, so if people we’re saying that then we can’t be that far behind of having a good squad
