Alan Pardew held his press conference today for the tough game at Hull City on Saturday, and near the end he was asked if Luuk de Jong’s performances would decide whether Newcastle would sign him permanently in the summer.
Luuk de Jong – looking better and better
It seemed a bit of a dumb question, but Alan answered it well, and revealed the Dutch striker is finding his feet in training on Tyneside, and looking better and better:
“I think that would make sense that he needs to make a success of his last ten games and he’s had a good start.”
“I think he came into the team when unfortunately we had just lost Cabaye, and we lost a couple of games and no Remy, and it was difficult for him.”
“But he’s finding his feet in training – and he’s looking better and better, and hopefully he can have a big impact before the end.”
And Luuk did well when he came on against Aston Villa and her brilliantly set up Loic Remy with a great piece of play and Loic hit the post, but it was a wide open goal and the French striker should have done better.
But then a few minutes later, de Jong was again involved, as his shot in the penalty area was deflected high in the air, to Remy who then gave an exhibition over a few seconds of how to beat two men in the penalty area, before you smash the ball into the back of the net for the winning goal, with a minute to go in added time.
And of course Newcastle got a fantastic 3 points.
And Alan also said he would probably give young Adam Armstrong his first team debut before the end of the season, and that another Academy product, Sammy Ameobi, would have a big part to play through the end of the season.

Comment #8I still maintain the only two decent players Spurs got out of the £100 million they dropped were Erikksen & Paulinho .

Comment #9Just shows that randomly spending a ton of cash buying 7 players to replace one doesn’t always work – Spurs are woeful
Saying tgat , it seems we’ll buy 1 to replace 3, not sure that’s gonna work either

Comment #12I would still argue that Sherwood doesn’t fit the players AVB bought…
…the same Pardew doesn’t really fit the players Carr recommends and the club has bought! Maybe that is why they also look woeful just like us 😉

I was hoping Sherwoods management would collapse under the additional strain of European Cup matches, but apparently that only happens to Pardew.

Glad they won, probably wouldn’t have watched another europa league game if they had of went out. Doesn’t really appeal to me with no english teams in it.

Comment #30Evening lads, would anyone here take gylfi sigurdsson from spurs. Think he’s a very underrated player, wouldn’t cost a fortune and suited to the prem.
On free transfers I couldn’t care less if we signed 5 players this summer on free transfers. It’s quality not price I’m interested in. There’s done good freebies out there who without doubt would add quality to our squad
Gomis
Hunt
Diego
That’s just 3 who I certainly wouldn’t turn down

Comment #37To me LDJ is more of a inside forward. He feeds and creates opportunities for the CF. He would be more effective in a 4-4-1-1 formation. I hope pardew riverts back to the 4-3-3 formation in which we seem to be more dangerous and attack minded.

Comment #40Menez definitely has not signed one Manx, by all accounts psg were offering him for free in January if reports are correct. I heard that about matuidi but nowhere can verify the new contract
