Usually when we have our poll for Man of the Match, it’s usually the goalscorers who do very well, and with Loic Remy scoring such a sensational goal very late in the game on Sunday, he was ahead in the poll over the first day or so after the game, and manager Alan Pardew let it be known he thought Loic was the best player on the field.
Mike Williamson – looks happy at the back after sensational winner
But the votes are now all in, and it’s Mike Williamson who tops the poll with 30% to Remy’s 21%, and there’s little doubt that Mike had another sterling game for Newcastle, when it really mattered.
And Coloccini came back after the knee injury he picked up on January 1st at West Brom, and showed just how important he is to the team with another solid performance, and it was those two at the back that allowed us to keep a clean sheet.
We’ll need Willo and Colo to be in the same good form on Saturday at Hull City, if we are to get our second win in a row, and certainly that’s exactly what we need – with the next game with Everton having to be rearranged because they are still in the FA Cup, so we’ll have a blank weekend coming up.
Here’ hoping for another win on Saturday.

Comment #4Hey Catchy – Amazing how the majority of people thought Willo was MOM and Colo third when they were beasted by Benteke 🙂

have you thought your team through ?
451
remy might have scored, but he done nothing until LDJ came on
and if it is a 451, your choice would be either remy up front goofy lft wing, or LDJ up front remy left wing
very tough choice

you carnt argue with facts
if benteke was playing for us, we would all be saying why did he not get support from else where, he did best them winning 21 out of 29 tells me he was better than them both
willamson won 8 out 16 colo won 2 out of 6 against him
if they both wher put under lots of preasure and kept a clean sheet id say yes , but they wernt tested
but who am I to say how you see the game,
for me the best player was LDJ, even though we hit lots of long balls for him, he changed the game

Comment #10MOTM has to be collilcini…..williamson had great gamae thx to the fact collo was back…he makes other defenders play better and look good…williamson would have had stinker if he played with Staylor.
wel done williamson but dont forget that he only plays well when playing with collo…
The key here is Colo

Comment #11Catchy – I agree we would be better off with with LDJ & Remy up top but I’m trying to second guess Pardew and he has had success with an away 4 5 1 formation so will probably stick to it.

You know I am with you on whole Pards and ashley out thing.
But sometimes when there is no support for a striker a defender can let him win the header, the other can sweep up.

Comment #14I also think those stats are meaningless unless put into context.
Was like the stats that showed danny simpson was the best right back in the league when he clearly wasn’t.
If you only take one or two select stats then you don’t gain anything from them. Also without applying proper statistical analysis it’s impossible to say what is significant and to what level.

Like you, I can’t understand how Willo got MoM on Sunday.
Maybe all those who voted for him were the victims of an error in the polling software, or worse still, someone’s tampered with it!

Comment #17Willo was class the weekend, all Villa do is hoof to Benteke and he was never allowed to make a telling header or bring the ball down.
And he saved us twice on the counter attack, the second may not look as spectacular but good defenders arent, they just put themselves in the right place.
Looks so much better with Colo next to him, whenever these two have had a run together in the past 3 years theyve by far been our best partnership back there.
