It could well be that Newcastle’s top right full-back Mathieu Debuchy will be the next Newcastle star to decide that the Tyneside club doesn’t match his ambitions, and hope that a top (ambitious) club comes in for him over the summer months, and it would appear he would just love to join his best friend Yohan Cabaye at PSG.
Mathieu Debuchy – PSG is huge
Mathieu signed a five and a half year deal just over a year ago, so in the summer he would still have four years left on his contract, and Mike Ashley would only let him leave if the Newcastle owner got big money for him.
This is what Mathieu has said in Telefoot today, when asked about the possibility of signing for a club like PSG:
“I’m under contract at Newcastle. I will focus on the end of the season and the World Cup and then after that we do not know.” “PSG is huge. It is a dream for many players.”
This is similar to what he’s said before, and of course the reason he talks about this stuff, is that he’s asked by the French reporters, who basically would love him to say something like – “Yes I really want to join PSG” – and they are simply causing mischief.
But we don’t have too many good players left at Newcastle, once Loic Remy moves on in the summer and Mathieu is one of those who hopefully will still be here.
So we really hope for two things – one is that no club comes in for him this summer or else an offer does come in and it’s turned down flat.
And the second is that Newcastle make some signs to our top players like Debuchy, that we really do want to build a top side for next season – and he can be part of that side.
With a distinct lack of ambition at Newcastle these days it shouldn’t be too surprising that our best players want to move on – and get Champions League football somewhere else.
Mathieu has been a tremendous buy for Newcastle at around £5.5M from Lille, and he’s played 42 times with one goal (against Sunderland), and has been one of Newcastle’s best players this season.
Comments welcome.

We’ve got a lot of squad players as 1st 11.
Agree Rotonda
We all want to see good football
But the managerial staff – not just Pardew -are a symptom as much as a cause. A new manager would probably create a bounce effect for 10-12 games but unless he is a major upgrade he will not achieve much, if any, more than Pardew has as the players are mediocre. If AP got us to 5-6th this season, which imo he ought before Cabs was sold and Remy sidelined then that is about the ceiling for us. Unless we spend on players over £5m regularly instead of the constant bargain basement hunt for cheap end of contract deals etc., then we will go nowhere very far from where we are now. The rot starts at the top.

Comment #4All well and good Ed, but you know, in your heart, that we are a club with no ambition to be anything more than a mid-table, profit making, advertising hoarding for a cheap Sportswear Company.
Why on earth would any player with ambitions to win things, have any desire to either remain with us, or join us, if there are other options on the table?
Yes, we can point to the balance sheet, which looks very pretty indeed, but I think most would like to look at a shiny new Cup, or a place in European Competition to be honest.
This management system, from the top down, is clearly not working and probably never will work in reallity. Its time for change!!!

Comment #5@tads: (from last article) He definitely didn’t have the best game, but he was a lot better than our other option. Given the choice between Mbiwa, Dummett and Haidara, I’d pick him every time. The one thing I am concerned about is how easily he goes down. I mentioned ages ago that every time he comes on he seems to get wiped out, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s a psychological thing at this stage, or, he just has a really low pain threshold.
Either way, I stand by him being the best choice until we have both Santon and Debuchy back. Let’s not forget that both Haidara and Dummett are young and could probably do with a year in the Championship before they’re the finished article.

Oh aye the lads still young, for me he should of been on loan this season
Just saying that in all honesty haven’t seen much between Santon Dummett or Haidara
They look as weak as each other just in different parts of there game
Yo yo
We seem to have a squad full of defensive minded utility players that are jacks of all trades masters of none
No one seems specialised in one position, don’t think the players RH listed have got worse but they certainly haven’t got better either
The players we have bought in that had that class imho all improved and all moved on, except Debs, who looks like he’s moving on!

Comment #20Any player who comes to our club must be brain dead or crap.eg De Jong. Relegation fight next season. Glad I stopped going after 50 years rather than give my cash to the fat one and his southern mates. keep the faith. One day he wil go. But not before killing the club and selling the land behind the Gallowgate end so that the ground can never be extended. Yeah, he cares that much about the development of this great club which is now dead from the neck up.

I don’t know why he has to keep saying these bold comments other than possibly making excuses as some bloggers have said.
Ashley is the main problem without a doubt, would a stronger manager (Sir Bob, KK, Chosen one, Rodgers, Wenger) put up with the restraints imposed by him ?
Our club is a mess but the books look good, oh how times have changed.
Cheers for the craic

Comment #23Most teams apart from the top 4 use their youth teams to bring through quality Pardew cant be trusted to do that unfortunately
Look at Everton and Southampton they are closest to us in terms of finances and squad but their managers trust the youngsters and have a system that allows them to thrive Pardew never gives youngsters a proper chance or plays a system that suits our senior players never mind the young ones!!
Its no use giving players 5 minutes they need to be given a proper run out in their preferred position our players may not be premier league standard but how we will we ever know if they dont get a game maybe Pardew does not trust them but to be fair his opinion matters hee haw because he does not have a clue how to play football the proper way
Honestly I wonder what we do in training because we play the same way all the time and barring injuries we play the same team as well

Good point on having utility players. Or turning players into utility players. Plus not using campbell or armstrong even once despite lack of wingers or strikers. Instead we change formation or put a utility guy out of position.

Trouble is can’t see anyone other than a Pardew type (average manger dinosaur philosophy) being bought in, like a Curbishly or someone

Comment #27Pardew did a canny job motivating the players for the match on Saturday by basically stating the whole team is crap and the squad is going to be overhauled in the summer.
He doesn’t understand why the players didn’t perform yesterday. I know why, they do not have any faith in their manager.

That’s a very good point, actually. For me, Dummett needs to go forward because he can’t defend for the life of him. Put him in midfield and see what he can do from there imo.

Comment #31Even if Pardew does know in his heart that he cant get this team to perform is he gonna come out and say it or leave. No. Sir Bobby would have and Keegan did. Pardew has no principles. Ashley can kick him in public and he will say that I deserved that kick. Lets move on. Add “limited ability” to all that.
He doesent give a crap. Which simply means I never expect anything honest from him. He does appear more like a stand up comic in his match comments. Everyone laughs. We are aiming for CL players. Haha..

Said yesterday if we could take Santons pace and skill, Dummetts crossing ability and tenacity and Haidara’s positional sense and tackling we’d have a canny LB, but the more i think of it we’d have………Jose Enrique!

Comment #33I hope Debuchy leaves the guy is a world class RB probably the best in the PL, he doesn’t deserve to be at a unambitious club he deserves to be where Cabaye is a top club.
Sissoko, MYM, Haidara, Anita, Tiote, Krull, HBA, Santon & Gouffran need to evaluate themselves and think is Newcastle the right move for me for the future? should I move on?
relegation next season I can guarantee it with Pardew at the helm, MA will only bring in freebies.
and the fans that go to games and fill out 50+ thousand seats disgust me and not worthy of supporting our club.

Comment #34If Debuchy goes we do have the forgotten man James Tavernier who scored twice for his onloan club. I believe he has scored 6 goals already.
Granted it is a lower league club but Dummitt transformed himself by being on loan. Perhaps Tavernier can do the same. Surely he cannot be worse than MYM who isn’t a right back.

Comment #35The reason pardew doesn’t want to leave this job is simple really he likes it very much and unless you are saying we are not actually a big club then why should he leave?
he is not going to get a job at chelsea arsenal city spurs united everton or liverpool and the rest of the teams are not as big as newcastle.
If pardew knew that the owner was going to be like he is then pardew would not be with us instead we would have a worst manager as pardew would have taken the england job.

Its too easy to say the youth isnt good enough. Neither is Luuk or Shola. Really they cant be worse. Atleast we shall see effort. Give them a 2-3 match run. They will have concerete motivations.
I shall give you Dummett. Thats one.
How many times has sammy played. Or Good.
And cant loans be cancelled. Armstrong is back now or in a week. Are you counting on Pardew to start him. He has been there all year.
