Newcastle center-back Mike Williamson has had an excellent season on Tyneside, and that;s after it looked last August that his carer at the club could have been over, but he came into the side at half time at Everton, when we were 3-0 down, and he hasn’t looked back and Mike has been one of Newcastle’s most consistent players this season.
Mike Williamson – done very well this season
Maybe Mike would be edged out by Mathieu Debuchy or even Loic Remy, but there’s no doubt he’s had an excellent season on Tyneside.
Mike joined Newcastle just over four years ago from Portsmouth, and he’s one of those lower league players who have proved they can hold their own in the Premier League, and to think he cost only £1M – another good deal for the club.
Mike is hoping Newcastle can make amends for what happened at St. Mary’s last Saturday and get a home win against Manchester United on Saturday:
“It’s our next game. When any team comes to St James’ Park we feel as though if we play how we can do to our potential then we can get three points.”
“Man United are still a quality team with quality players and it will be difficult but it’s down to us that we go about our jobs probably and do it right.”
“We’re almost neck-and-neck with Southampton, pushing for a higher finish.” “It’s going to be difficult, as they are a fantastic team with good individual players.”
“We’ve got to brush ourselves down and go again.”
Mike has now played 29 times for Newcastle this season, and 130 times in total, but in his time at Newcastle he has never managed to score a goal – yet.
He scored 3 goals in 23 appearances for Watford and 11 goals in 167 appearances at Wycombe Wanderers, so he has been known to score some goals in his career.
With nobody else finding goals easy to come by these days at Newcastle, maybe he could break his duck on Saturday?
Hope so, and Mike is one of those players who what you see is what you get, and he always gives 100% for the side.

Comment #42Mindshaft – I guess it all comes down to how they cover it. They will also be getting TV money which will cover both the training complex and outstanding fees. If it can be paid, regardless of when and it’s agreed upon, it’s no issue. We often play it far too safe as a club in my opinion. Or not play it at all.

Comment #43No one can honestly compare Southampton with the Toon, they’re a small club on the south coast and Newcastle United are a Geordie giant.

Comment #45“… it’s down to us that we go about our jobs probably and do it right.”
He probably meant “properly”, not “probably”. But you never know.
Ed, we couldn’t do much worse in playing Shola, actually. He never scores and he’s not exactly a bundle of energy or speed. If we play him, that will only bring them further up the field with a very high line and no chance of being caught on the break. In fact, because our counters tend to be so laborious, teams press us ‘full court’. We panic and thus look like a pub team playing a PL outfit.

Comment #46@GPLF – agreed although 27 mil transfer deficit and a 30 mil bill for the training ground before you start player trading isn’t a great place to be – wouldn’t be surprised if they have to sell one of Lallana, Shaw or Rodrigez
It’s all gone a bit tits up there since the owner died and left his daughter as sole owner – it’s known she doesn’t want to be in the football business and will not bankroll the club as her father did

Comment #48Does anyone, even the super-optimistic (or the opposite), know what kind of NUFC will show up next game? Our last game was THE most important one out of the then remaining fixtures and we made Southampton look like nothing less than Barca.

Comment #50We’ve never been in the third division or outside the top two divisions in our history. Newcastle United and Arsenal Chelsea Everton Liverpool Manchester United Tottenham and West Ham only teams to consistently play in the top two divisions in England and Newcastle United are ranked 8th in the all time greatest English teams.

To answer the other question it depends on which Man U show up. Last time around we lost 3-0 against Swansea without strikers and then went to beat Man U.
It will be interesting to see if Man U will allow us to keep possession as the usually do and try to destroy us on the counter. If Moyes learned something from Southampton the then we might be in for another thrashing. If he sets them up like against Bayern and the players don’t keep focus then we have chance.

Moyes won’t set his side up like he did against Bayern – that was to contain a team who can keep the ball and have real quality.
Why would anyone set their team up like that against us?
We’re in for an absolute hiding.

After Markus Liebherr the owner who bought the club died it passed to his daughter who has got know interest in football – That’s why the manager said he would give it to the end of the season to see which way the club will go

Comment #57If Sissoko is out then we could be fielding a team of lightweights and midfield midgets: Anita, Marvo, Ben Arfa, Tiote and Goufroon paper OK but on pitch who knows!!!!!!!

Fair play to Willo. It’s not who any of us would chose to have representing our club, but he has been solid and does his job well.
I’d much rather have him than not.
Ciaran…Are you seriously playing the “I think Alan will…” game?
Okay, I’ll give it a go.
I think Alan will…come under a lot of criticism come full time, probably a decent amount before kick off as well

Comment #61He’s not going to drop Colo, Williamson, Tiote, Anita or Gouffran (who should be dropped for this game).
He’d be better off trying 3 at the back.
………………………..Elliot
………Williamson…Coloccini….Yanga-Mbiwa
…………………Tiote……..Anita
Santon………………………………Haidara
………………………Ben Arfa
………………Cisse………….Gouffran
That’s what I’d try. Sticking Remy in for Cisse if he’s fit.

We’re a lame duck of a team as it stands. If you are a PL team in need of a pick-me-up and turn things around, there is no better side to play than Newcastle United. Teams like Sunderland and Fulham would be pretty much guaranteed to be relegated but for the fact that we’ve gifted them points.
Man United, if Moyes has any sense about him, will stick on his quickest, hungriest side. Stick Hernandez and Rooney up front, Kagawa in behind them, with Januzjai and Valencia on the wings, play Fellaini to negate Tiote, Carrick will have Anita in his back pocket and they don’t need to worry about our attackers because we’re toothless without Remy.
Game. Set. Match.
I can’t see anything other than a 2-0 defeat for us this weekend, if we get anything it will be because Man U have been terrible and gifted it to us.

Have you just got a bee in your bonnet? I didn’t respond to anyone suggesting that Sissoko had a day off because he was injured, I responded to people suggesting that he shouldn’t be allowed to go to Paris with his girlfriend when we had just been drubbed by Saints.
So don’t be a d*ck. My comment that he can do whatever he wants on his day off stands.
Regardless of the reason, footballers have time off and he can do whatever he wants with that time.

Comment #66I am hoping to see Anita dropped for Man Utd.
He has no business playing so high up the pitch, he looks like a midget chasing the ball against opposition centre-backs, and I have seen very little tracking back from him… he could be under instructions to stay high up the pitch, which I would not mind if he contributed anything going forward.
I would not want to see Anita playing beside Tiote, as I have said before, I don’t believe Tiote needs a defensive midfield partner, they just get in his way… Tiote can marshall his zone without help.
Marveaux looks more composed with the ball to me… and based on the last few games I have seen, Anita has not exactly been busting a gut to get back when we are being attacked. If we are going to afford a player luxuries like that, we have a others better designed for the task.
I know Anita has his fans on here… but after being very patient and giving him time, I just do not have faith in him. I firmly believe that players under a certain height need to have an exceptional talent, which Anita just does not have. Perhaps he could play at right back? he has played full back in the past, and Mbiwa should be reserved as a center-back and center back-only.

Comment #69Hats off to Willo he was 5th choice at the start of the season no gave him a chance. Hard work and commitment to the job might not be the best in the world but a good pro which cannot be siad of the rest of the back line.
