James Tavernier is having a great loan spell at Rotherham United, and he has proved over the last few months that he is turning into a very good player and has 5 goals for the club from his right back position.
James Tavernier – works hard in training
James had scored twice in the 2-1 win against Bristol City last week and it was a Tom Hitchcock hat-trick yesterday that got Rotherham another win – 4-3 at Gillingham.
They were 3-2 down after 84 minutes until Hitchcock got two late goals to get them the win and James Tavernier again played the whole game at right-back.
This is what Rotherham assistant manager Paul Raynor has said about Tavernier, and he’s compared him to David Beckham – at least in training:
“I see James out there training and he is working on his free-kicks all the time.” “When I was with David at Preston, I saw how hard he worked on them and how he was practicing free-kicks all the time.”
“Well I have seen James doing that, and there are other people here wanting to do extra, there’s days when you’ve got to drag them off the training ground.”
“Work hard, practice and you get your rewards.”
Those are good words from the manager.
Haris Vuckic was an unused substitute yesterday for Rotherham.
Rotherham have now moved up to 3rd top of League one after 40 games played, and are only six points behind third placed Brentford, so there;s a decent chance Rotherham can be promoted this season.
It’s good to hear that James is doing some hard work in training, and he;ll be looked at closely in pre-season to see if he can challenge for a place in the Newcastle first team, although it’s expected that Newcastle will bring in another right back this summer.
James, who is now 22, has played 21 times for Rotherham this season with 5 goals.
