We were linked with 19 year-old Derby County and England U21 central midfielder Will Hughes last year, and we wonder if this lad in on Newcastle’s target list for this summer?
But we will continue the series from last year, when we profiled players who would seem to be excellent acquisitions for Newcastle United this summer.
Will Hughes – England U21 creative midfielder
Will has played another full season with Derby and has 5 goals and 5 assist in 50 appearances for Derby, who have qualified for the Championship play-offs under former Middlesbrough and England Manager Steve McClaren, who was hired in September after Nigel Clough was fired.
Derby are in third place with one game to go and are 8 points behind second played Burnley and 15 points behind Champions Leicester, who have both qualified for automatic promotion, and former Newcastle coach Nigel Pearson is the manager at Leicester City.
The left-footed Weybridge-born Hughes has played 9 times for the England U21 side, and he joined Derby almost three years ago in the summer of 2011.
He made his debut for Derby in November of 2011 against Peterborough, as a 16 year-old and has gone onto play 85 times for the Rams, and is one of the up and coming creative young midfielders in the Championship.
And since Newcastle are interested in signing British players, maybe Newcastle can try to bring this lad to Newcastle this summer.
Hughes has been described as a flair player and not unlike former Newcastle youngster Paul Gascoigne, and Will is a great passer of the ball, and can create holes in the opposition defenses, with his vision and passing ability.
Sounds exactly what we need at Newcastle right now, and he is valued on transfermarkt.com at a low £6M.
And eighteen months ago Will said on the BBC that bases his style of play on central midfielders Xavi and Andres Iniesta of Barcelona, and if he turns out anything like those two – he will be a top player for sure.
The 6″tall Hughes could attract some top clubs this summer, but we just hope that (for once) Newcastle could move quickly and get this lad on Tyneside – he’s a player the Newcastle fans would just love, and that’s especially true if Newcastle are to sell the mercurial Ben Arfa this summer.
What do you think?

Well as you know Lad’s N’ Lasses , On behalf of Newcastle United fans and Canny writers on this ere’ blog ,
I set out to try and get some answers to questions that we have all been asking ..
inquisitive lot that we are !..Well here’s the story .
After I put my Idea to Mike Ashley, that it might be a good idea to let the supporters know what was happening ..through a supporter . with a question session.
.It was then discussed by Mike himself in his office at Sports Direct with the delightful
Carol Stringfellow..
I was full of hope as at least Mike was giving this idea some thought, and then word’s , as to what to do next .
The message from Mike was I could go ahead and get in touch with his PA at St’ James’s park , Joy Swan ..I spoke to Joy , canny Lass, and she Invited me then to submit my questions
I did, and I reported to you canny lot what I was doing on this here blog ..I done my best Lad’s, and I’m not finished yet ..but this is what happened after I followed Mike’s Suggestion.. I sent Joy a list of my questions, some of which I reproduce here below.
I also cut and paste the final reply I got after trying to get some answer’s, and jumping through so many hoops ..I had about 5 phone conversations at good length..and I thought I was getting somewhere..
I’m not going to pass judgement here Folk’s, I’m going to leave that to fellow writers here. I tried lad’s I tried , I had a go.. The email from Joy is cut and pasted so that’s how I received it, after all the ground work I put in .
I really thought I was getting somewhere when it was discussed by Mike and I was then told to do exactly what I did .. Here’s some of the questions I submitted, below, ..and the reply. Shuck’s
*********************************************************************************************************************************
1, Will the sale of the land lease at Strawberry place impede or halt any future development of St’James’s Park..and are you selling the head lease or the under lease .
2,Will our current manager, Mr Pardew have his Tenure extended into next season.
3, Is there any development planned to extend the football ground at the Gallowgate end in sympathy with the existing west stand , in the future .
4, Mike , do you have any plans to buy Glasgow Rangers outright . or a controlling interest. If so, what will your position be as regard’s Newcastle United Ownership.
5, Is Newcastle united still on the market Mike, or, are you now staying long term, with a long term stratergy .
6, Have there been any recent bid’s or offer’s for the Club, from any organisation, or any individual.
7, Have there been any genuine offers for the club that have been turned down because they fell short, or might not have been fit and proper person’s, in your estimation, to be custodians of Newcastle United ? .
8, Will you be hiring a new director of Football .
9, Mike, is it true that the Mansour family, now at Manchester City, made you an offer for Newcastle United, before they bought into Man City . Or is that just an urban Myth .
10, Can you give a ballpark figure for the transfer budget for the coming transfer window .
11, How many players are leaving the club, seasons end.
12, How many players, roughly, do you expect to bring in to the club for next season’s campaign .
**************************************************************************************
That’s just a few of the questions I submitted to open the door lad’s…Here’s the reply..
Dear M K – thank you for your email.
I have been advised to ask you to visit our website nufc.co.uk under the “fans” tab, and put your questions to them and they will then pass on your questions to the next Forum meeting in May 2014.
Kind regards

Comment #54Ashley and Pardew believe the 52,000 “buy it.”
They believe they are happy and content. It is their proof that they are providing a fair and acceptable deal.
Affordable football is their mission statement. This is as good as it gets.
Tomorrow you have the chance to make them think again.
You may think we are lions led by donkeys, and the protest has been fluffed by a bunch of Wolfie Smiths. And you may resent it.
But please take your chance to do something.
If you do not, you will be rewarded with another negligent transfer window. Another weakened squad. Another run like this one, and we will be up sh!t creek without a paddle by October.
If you think he will just correct it in January, remember that he got away with it by the skin of his teeth last time, with a much stronger squad.
You may support the lads.
I support the lads.
The game may be the highlight of your week.
It was the highlight of mine.
I want it back. For myself, my children and my grandchildren. They cannot win this fight. But you can.
The future and survival of this club is held in trust by you.
It is about more than YOUR Saturday afternoon.
Thank you.

I am somewhat emabarrassed to be making a kind of big blousy, corny Braveheart speech.
Wouldn’t it have been so much more comfortably post-modern to instead cut along the ranks to people grumbling that they have the sh*ts and smirking, Beavis and Butthead style, “Hey, that bloke, he’s wearing a SKIRT …snigger, snuffle, hoot!

Where has the Geordie pride gone? How many times have you heard the away fans singing about our famous atmosphere? How many times have you heard the away fans out sing us ? Tomorrow get them out

Comment #65The trouble is the majority of fans are happy just turning up watching a football match, yes we all want to win. But most are happy they are brain washed by MA, just as planned by him to make believe what he’s doing is for the best for the club.
The majority of fans who come on this blog and fans who want ambition are just a percentage of fans who want change.
MA and AP know what they can get away with and are doing so.

Comment #74toon kk—- i think your wrong. Yes some attend games as it is habbit , something they have done for years . getting up early , off to the pub , meeting their mates for a game of pool, off to town , straight down bigg market , or percy street , few pints , bit sing song , off to match , that is their saturday – has been since school. they are happy- selfish , but happy. then you have the ‘ thats it , no more , not going back there again- untill next home game.they are not happy , however, they need a leader , a T4C kind of leader , who says ‘ rite lads this is what we are going to do to get our club back’ give half of these who attend games a ‘ general’ type figure , a leader , and they will follow – at present , they have no one.

Comment #77Mactoon , Ciaran.. got some info for the Nust group..
Had a good conversation with the DLR today here’s what I found out
No sale as yet on either Freehold, or leasehold or under lease, no searches. Today, Friday. May 2’nd
I wanted to find out about the bit of land that is officially known as ND13389 I was told I would have to mention the owners of that land, before I could have any info, so I went through some names ..Sir John Hall ..no, Fredrick Shepherd, No , Ashley , No , Newcastle United Holding’s Etc , No, ! ..Last one I mentioned was
Tyne and wear Passenger transport executive , Correct . !
Was told that the land is not for sale at ND13389..its not going as part of this sale by Newcastle United holdings either ..Its a prime bit of land and Newcastle United holdings have nothing to do with it, and have no say so over it..
If you look towards the back of the Gallowgate from the link I’m posting here ..look to the right of the last hexagon advertising sign towards the Strawberry Pub..see the steps ? it starts before those steps and up over and across towards pub and back towards the car park . you can go on line to DLR and request the
TITLE PLAN and they will give/mail you the exact expanse of ND13389.
It looks to me like it would stop any development encroaching anywhere over the steps and the advertising hoardings… from the car park…. and anywhere near those steps and beyond ,.Ground development could be had up to that point past the last (easterly)advertising hex hoarding, and way over past the steps . . imo
Land guy and me were looking at the plan together and he told me exactly where it started, and it encompasses those step’s ..Title plan will give you exact layout ..that land is not for sale at this time and has nothing to do with the sale of the lease hold by Ashley of TY344775
Nexus have the bag on with Ashley for his Non disclosure of the lease hold sale, and with Nexus and the TWPTE..( hand in hand Same entity) they wont be Giving that land up any-time soon ..so any developer will maybe think twice
.
Here’s the link ..I know you know it.

Comment #80Thank you for your info regarding the land.
I would like to add it in no way means anything.
If Mashley sells the lease/whatever it will mean the same thing regardless of this patch of land.
All it means is there is a difusion/distraction to the actual purpose of the fans displeasure of the fat greedy get selling the only way possible our ground could ever be expanded for his own greasy mits.
The patch of land is irrelevant
All it would mean is we needed to negotiate with one party instead of two,the land would be bought and held to ransom no doubt by some one representing the fat greedy get.
