It’s likely that Southampton’s bid of £10M for Celtic and former Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster will be accepted and will benefit Newcastle, because when we did the deal with Celtic for Forster a couple of years ago, Newcastle insisted on a sell-on fee.
Hexham-born Fraser Forster
That sell-on deal is said to be 25%, and the way that generally works is whatever profit Celtic get on Forster, Newcastle will receive 25% of that.
So that’s 25% of £8M – so Newcastle should be able to pocket £2M.
It’s surprising that Fraser’s value increased so much in just two years, and maybe Newcastle should have asked more for him two years ago, but now we will have received £4M in total for Fraser Forster.
Newcastle almost had to sell Fraser, because he didn’t want to sit on the bench at Newcastle, and two years ago Tim Krul was the firm Newcastle number one – and he still is.
And a potential twist – Celtic were beaten 6-1 on aggregate to Polish club Legia Warsaw in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, but the Polish side fielded an ineligible player.
Legia brought on Bartosz Bereszynski for the last four minutes of their 2-0 second-leg victory at Murrayfield on Thursday night, while he was supposed to be serving a suspension following a red card for violent conduct in last season’s Europa League.
So four minutes of (complete) madness by those in charge of Legia Warsaw mean that Celtic are back in the competition since they were awarded that second leg 3-0, so the Scottish giants go through on away goals.
We don’t believe this reversal will mean the transfer of Forster to Southampton will be called off by Celtic so Newcastle will get £2M.

Comment #41Ethio- since Totem is most likely out for the city game I’d rather see Sissoko in his position with colback, and Goofy – Cabella playing on the wings.

Comment #42Not sure what’s going on at Blackpool. Not sure the owners deserve the club and wonder whether lending them players would be bailing out an undeserving ownership or helping out a wonderful old club. If the owners aren’t pariahs or haven’t been negligent then yeah, we have half a dozen players they could surely use and who would benefit.

That could be the team if Tiote is out injured and De Jong is not but it’s not a certainty that De Jong will have recovered from his injury.
If De Jong is still injured the team could be:
Krul
Janmaat – Williamson – Colo – Haidara
Sissoko – Colback
Obertan – Cabella – Gouffran

Comment #54I do not believe we will sign Grenier, Pards has already said SDJ is Cabayes replacement.
I could see a striker late in the window however my only concern is all the suggested targets are waiting to see what other clubs come in first. I want a striker who wants to play for us.
Finally, I hope Pards gives Aarons his chance this season. Play the lad and watch what he can do.

Looks like it could be:
Krul
Janmaat – Williamson – Colo – Haidara
Sissoko – Colback
Gouffran – De Jong – Cabella
Reviere
I would imagine that Pardew will select a team that he hopes will play against Man City but possibly not in that formation.

Comment #56Still think our team is very uneven and injuries could really do us in – as could the coach’s ego!
