Soccer Sauce is a Twitter account that tries to be the first news outlet to report what’s happening in the transfer market – and with Cheick Tiote supposed to be leaving Newcastle this summer, it’s not too surprising that potential replacements have been mentioned.
Cheick Tiote – moving away from Newcastle?
Here are some of the most recent tweets from soccer sauce on the Cheick Tiote situation:
- ¨We understand Arsenal are one of 2/3 interested parties in Tiote.Player has made it clear he wants to leave according to our sources #NUFC¨
- ¨For clarity-we know Tiote has not been fit, however his discussions with Arsenal over past 2 weeks have been main reason he hasn’t featured¨
- ¨We have heard a couple of whispers that #NUFC are looking at ex-Arsenal MF Alex Song as a potential replacement if Tiote leaves.Unconfirmed¨
- ¨Cheick Tiote in talks with Arsenal. This is why the player has not featured over past couple of weeks #AFC #NUFC¨
The other time we quoted soccer sauce on this site – it was because Loic Remy was supposed to be in London for a meeting with Newcastle officials – and that didn’t turn out to be true.
And if we had to come up with a name we had been linked with before as a defensive midfielder Alex Song would probably be one of the first names of the list, although to be fair – they do say that is unconfirmed..
Alex Song – Barcelona defensive midfielder
Alex was the one who got a red card after hitting Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic in Cameroon’s final World Cup game – so he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory in Brazil.
And the other news is that Manchester United are reported to be interested in the player, and if that’s true – there’s just no way Newcastle could get him to Tyneside.
Song joined Barcelona two years from Arsenal , and the 26 year-old Cameron International (47 caps) has played for Barca 65 times with one goal, and while at Arsenal he played 217 times with 10 goals and 25 assists.
Song has been told he can leave Barcelona this summer, and hence the interest – but since he cost a whopping £15M when he moved to Barcelona – there’s just no way Newcastle would pay £15M to replace the £8M rated Tiote.
Mike Ashley likes to do things the other way around, and as an example of that we paid out £5M for Daryl Janmaat, to replace Mathieu Debuchy, after we had received £12M from Arsenal for the former Lille defender.
While at Arsenal and Barcelona Song has always played in the Champions League, so it’s unlikely he would want to move to Newcastle, who are not a Champions League club these days.
So now we have convinced people (including ourselves) that there’s just no way Alex is coming to Newcastle, here’s the important question – who are the players that Newcastle should be looking at to replace Cheick – if he is sold this summer?

Seriously, give it a watch he speaks about a lot more than the part they’ve typed about Cabella’s flair and how tough it can be adapting to life on Tyneside but how great it is, speaks very openly about HBA and admits our defence is……..well sh1t

Really? Can.we.believe that ashley will employ.that type of manager? I always thought his list would be full of curbishleys and the like! Happy to be proved wrong if so, and will be happy to see an actual upgrade on Pardew, rather than just sacking him and replacing him with worse.

He did mate, probably why we are being linked to him.

I think Tiote is better than him, I’m confused as to why we would sell players when they reach the peak of their powers…surely this is the time they’ll contribute the most

Well, i do.agree we should not be selling tiote. I think he is a good player and is settled. However, if he is sold, i think Song is ideal in his place. Personally i think Song has the edge on tiote overall, bit i am happy to agree to differ on that. I think he would probably cost a bit more than we would get for tiote, and therefore we might as well keep tje experienced settled player, as there is not a huge amount between them football wise.

I was a bit late but jumped in on a conversation earlier with Beattie about De Boer
For me there are probably better managers but none that could see the whole club as a project rather than just the senior squad
His knowledge of the academy etc would be invaluable to us
Give him whatever he wants to rebuild the club from the seniors all the way down to the youth team, let him appoint the coaches sell him the club as a whole, it’s your project put your stamp on it

Comment #17If I could have one meeting, or even just 5 minutes alone with Michael Ashley I wouldn’t use that time to scream or to shout or to hurl abuse or to throw punches along with insults.
No, I would use that time to try and convince him that we need to hire De Boer and co.
As TADS has said there are better managers out there, there may not even be any chance of it working out, but the potential De Boer has to not only change our first team’s fortunes but to create a legacy is an opportunity that nobody should turn down.
De Boer talked about us being a sleeping giant and I think that he and his coaching staff, with their knowledge of youth teams, their playing and coaching experience, their will to win and their abilities to manage on a budget could awaken this slumbering beast.
It would be a gamble but the pay off for Ashley would be vast if it worked out. There are no guarantees, but hiring Frank to me is like betting on a thoroughbred.
If I was the man at the top I would hire De Boer, Stam, Van Der Saar, Bergkamp and also ask Frank to consider a adding a few NUFC legends such as Ginola, Rob Lee, Albert and even Jonathon Woodgate to the coaching staff (I think Woodgate is the finest defender we ever had).
Sadly we are stuck with a donkey and his desire to create a team of workhorses and I live in a fantasy world where Ashley actually would want to make NUFC a winning team.

I cant disagree. It would be a fantastic progressive step. We could become a huge club with that kind of attitude. It would take time, but at least there would be a clear vision, instead of kicking around mid table like teenagers around a run down shopping centre.

That is what is so annoying to me.
People on the other side of the argument like to say that we want success now.
I don’t, I know it isn’t realistic. But when we don’t have any direction for the future and the manager says it would be good to get 48 points again I feel nothing but sadness.
I would take another 10 years of mid table finishes if the football was improving season on season and we had ambition to grow and cultivate the club from the grass roots up.

He’s a class act is Wor Davide!
On Rooney, strange move but could get the best out of him, not that he needs help doing that at club level imo, the lads a beast of a player in the PL in all aspects of the game!
Be interesting to see how he will use Rooney RVP and Mata this season
Which reminds me as were usually speaking about a manager ostracising one of the clubs top talents this season under LVG could be the season we see Mata really haunt Mourinho

Comment #23I think if we sold Tiote, and I dont think we will, it would be an excellent opportunity for Bingirimana to step up and show what he could do. Of course AP will just play Vurn in the centre instead, which is also not a bad thing. Midfield of Gouf, Vurn, Cabs and Cissoko, with De Jong just behind the striker.

Yeah maybe I am, but I still think even if he has forgotten that comment, he would still come here if offered the chance.
I still believe NUFC is one of the most appealing jobs in world football and many people would want to be the one that becomes not only a winning manager, but a true legend.

At Ajax in a very poor league with a very dominant team. He’s far to small and doesn’t have the physical stature to replace Tiote. Anita is decent but a strong aggressive tackling defensive midfielder he is not

Fantastically put mate
We don’t need a manager, we need an identity, someone to come in with full backing, and start laying the foundations to rebuild this club from the very bottom
Tbh I’d take the clubs statement of solidifying us as a top 10 club looking to continually build if there was any evidence of progression and a genuine project in place to overhaul the coaching at all levels and putting in place the building blocks for the future of the club
Not just limping from season to season by ensuring we have the bare minimum to scrape through with no identify on the pitch and watching promising youngsters continually fail to make the step up due to there being no connection with the senior teams philosophy and the youth teams philosophy

So when you’re persuading Ashley to recruit De Boer plus Stam, Van Der Saar, Bergkamp and add a few NUFC legends such as Ginola, Rob Lee, Albert and even Jonathon Woodgate to the coaching staff, you’ll need to have a supply of oxygen handy when he starts to think about their wages!

Comment #36OT, i think he’s enough for most teams in the prem, for those teams who go all out physical I expect JC to get the nod. With or without CT we have depth in midfield. Long term I still believe Bigi will become the answer to your questions mate, I just think after his injury nightmares last season it might just be a bit too soon for him.
