Two Newcastle Players Named In Dutch Squad

Guus Hiddink is the latest coach of Holland and was appointed in early August, replacing Louis van Gaal when of course joined Manchester United after the World Cup, and he is in his second spell as the Dutch manager having held the position from 1994 – 1998.

This is the 67 year-old’s 14th appointment as either a club manager or country manager since he began his management career at PSV Eindhoven in 1987.

And in his first squad Guus has named Tim Krul and Daryl Janmaat in the 25-man squad to play matches in Italy and the Czech Republic.

The September 3rd match in Italy is a warm-up game for the game in Prague on September 9th, which is a European Championship qualifier.

This is the squad Guus has named, and it’s unusual to have four goalkeepers named in the squad:

Goalkeepers: Tim Krul (Newcastle), Michael Vorm (Tottenham), Jasper Cillessen (Ajax), Jeroen Zoet (PSV)

Defenders: Daryl Janmaat (Newcastle), Stefan de Vri (Lazio), Bruno Martins Indi (Porto), Erik Pieters (Stoke City), Joel Veltman (Ajax), Paul Verhaegh (Augsburg), Gregory van der Wiel (PSG), Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa)

Midfielders: Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray), Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburg), Leroy Fer (QPR), Daley Blind (Ajax), Georginio Winaldum (PSV), Nigel de Jong (AC Milan), Jordy Clasie (Feyenoord)

Forwards: Memphis Depay (PSV), Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Schalke), Robin van Persie (Manchester United), Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich), Jeremain Lens (Dynamo Kiev), Dirk Kuyt (Fenerbahce)

Once Siem de Jong has settled in on Tyneside, we are hoping the number 10 can get back into the Dutch squad.

Siem has six caps with two goals for Holland so far in his career.

centre back has been a priority for the last few years ……cannot understand why its just come to the fore,,,whether they sell tiote or not (usually one out one in) a big commanding centre back should be first position to strengthen….

It’s amazing just how many have succumb to this nonsense of we have to sell before we buy and that a player has reached a certain age he has to go.

Stop accepting it, we sell players in the peak of there careers so never get to see the best of them, and why sell before we can buy? We got 70m from TV deal which hasn’t been touched yet, release a vuckic or sadly Jonas if all they are gonna do is warm the bench

Finally Grenier is bottom of the list as far as I’m concerned for priorities. We need a CB and a proper CF, maybe even a winger before Grenier.

I feel sorry for Liverpool if they end up signing balotelli..cz they might end up playing a few games with 10 men 😀

We are the only mugs who feel sorry for Liverhampton….they’ve looked past what type of character Balotelli is and see just how much of a difference he’d make to that team. Suarez was a numpty but just because he’s a handful mentality wise doesn’t mean he won’t do the damage on the pitch.

Get off your moral high horse and have some ambition, I want to see the best players in this league and more importantly I’d love it if they played for us.

We don’t have to sell we can take a hit rather than pay wages to certain players. Agree a mutual termination of contracts to Jonas and HBA. At the moment both players are picking up wages but won’t be utilised so it’s a waste….pay them off and take the hit we got enough money from the TV which would mean it more than covers the loss.

If Scousehampton are going for Balotelli, it further illustrates that Rogers is like a kid in a sweet shop and they’ve more money than sense if they allow him to squander it.

    Our Toon,
Bad nights sleep mate, or just get out of the wrong side of the bed? 😉

I agree, we shouldn’t have to sell before we buy, but that is how the club now operates. We don’t have to accept it, but until anything changes then discussing splashing cash without selling is like saying we should be getting Messi or Ronaldo in. Not going to happen. As I said, we shouldn’t have to sell Tiote to bring in a centre half, but realistically he will go if we are to bring in any more players. I think a top class centre half is the only sensible option when spending that money.

On Balotelli, I agree, it is great seeing the world’s best players in the Prem, although it means less to me now as I only get to 1 or 2 games a year. However, I’d argue Falcao is a far better player than Balotelli, so if Liverfool are after one or the other as is being reported (or made up by journos, hard to know the difference at times), I’d much prefer to see Falcao in the Prem.

I’d like to see Vurnon Anita have a good season and add to his Dutch caps.
