Is This A Hint We Will Sign A Striker In January?

Alan Pardew gave his press conference today for the game at Manchester United on Friday afternoon.

Louis van Gaal – Manchester United manager

Alan talked about how difficult the game would be at Old Trafford on Friday afternoon, and that we already had wins against some of the top clubs this season, Tottenham and Manchester City, and we remain the only team that has beaten  Chelsea this season in all competitions.

This is some of what Alan said today:

“We can raise our game, but you know we don’t score a lot of goals, and that’s something that is a concern really – going into the second half of the season, how many goals we’ve scored.”

“So that’s an area we’ll have to improve on against any team, but when you play the top teams you can keep it tight, and one or two goals can be enough but not always – and we need top score more goals.”

We really have only Papiss Cisse and Ayoze Perez who are scoring goals for us, and they have 11 goals between them – just less than half of Newcastle’s total goal tally this season, with the other goals spread over nine players.

Manu Riviere and Facundo Ferreyra haven’t been able to get the job done,  and the Argentine hasn’t even played for the Newcastle first team yet, and hardly ever makes the bench.

Facundo didn’t even make the bench at Tottenham, when we had so many players missing.

It’s fairly clear from Alan’s statement that he will have brought up the deficiency in strikers with the powers that be at Newcastle – namely Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley.

But that doesn’t say they can get the job done in the January transfer window.

But we hope they do.

What do you think?

Not a plea for a striker at all just an admission we don’t score a lot of goals.

Drop one of our Dm’s and stop playing strikers on the wing and we might actually score more Alan. Its not rocket science .

His defensive approach doesn’t seem to work as we get turned over on the regular .

Atleast he knows? I was starting to get worried. haha
So are we going to right of Riviere, he needs a run of games with Perez. Those two would beat up a lot of defenses in this league and hopeful it would get Riviera scoring.
-Luuk De Jong should of been picked up for 5 mill. Didn’t have the chance to showcase but would of been a tough call to buy him.
-Ings looks like another Perez but we need a big man, Ings could be a 3rd choice
-Time for the scouting network to figure out something. Been a little shaking recently

Yes Ed, it was a hint from Pardew.

But how many times have we seen this before?

We’ll hear of interest (Lacazette, for example) then a bid of sorts’ll go in early in the window. There’ll be hopes raised only to be dashed when ‘we enter talks’ only to hear that agents’ fees, selling club intransigence, or more likely, that the target (that man Lacazette again), has commited himself to his club til the summer at least.

Hey ho, isn’t it that time of year again? Discounted half-season tickets on sale soon?

Dash it, I am such a cynic – but why should that be so.

On another note, the Mirror today reported that rumors are abound in Glasgow that Pardew’s been offered a 24 (yup, 24) year contract at Rangers!!

Is that wishful thinking on behalf of the Rangers’ fans?

The board siad at the last agm we wouldn’t be in the market this jan due to summer outlay. If they had the balls to be straight with the fans it would be refreshing instead of the usual mixed messages they send out building fan expectation only for failure when they weren’t really looking in the 1st place they should have learned from the mistakes of the past windows.

More than another striker what we need is a creative midfielder to pull the strings and deliver the set pieces — a Pirlo, Modric, a young Gerrard, a Yohan Cabaye!

Cisse and Perez will score more goals with the proper service. Cisse especially needs service; he’s a poacher, but he’s never going to create goals on his own.

With Cabaye (or a similar player) back in the engine room along side Sissoko & Colback, this team has goals in it!

Would love a Lauren Robert style player for the right side of our forward line..one that can help with set pieces… think janmaat can cover his defensive frailties.. that and a striker with strength.
