Alan Pardew gave his press conference today for the game at Manchester United on Friday afternoon.
Louis van Gaal – Manchester United manager
Alan talked about how difficult the game would be at Old Trafford on Friday afternoon, and that we already had wins against some of the top clubs this season, Tottenham and Manchester City, and we remain the only team that has beaten Chelsea this season in all competitions.
This is some of what Alan said today:
“We can raise our game, but you know we don’t score a lot of goals, and that’s something that is a concern really – going into the second half of the season, how many goals we’ve scored.”
“So that’s an area we’ll have to improve on against any team, but when you play the top teams you can keep it tight, and one or two goals can be enough but not always – and we need top score more goals.”
We really have only Papiss Cisse and Ayoze Perez who are scoring goals for us, and they have 11 goals between them – just less than half of Newcastle’s total goal tally this season, with the other goals spread over nine players.
Manu Riviere and Facundo Ferreyra haven’t been able to get the job done, and the Argentine hasn’t even played for the Newcastle first team yet, and hardly ever makes the bench.
Facundo didn’t even make the bench at Tottenham, when we had so many players missing.
It’s fairly clear from Alan’s statement that he will have brought up the deficiency in strikers with the powers that be at Newcastle – namely Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley.
But that doesn’t say they can get the job done in the January transfer window.
But we hope they do.
What do you think?
