It’s hardly surprising that John Carver was delighted with the win this afternoon at Hull City, when Newcastle went in at half time 1-0 up through a wonderful first goal from Remy Cabella, and then Sammy Ameobi five minutes into the second half probably scored an even better one from 30 yards out, and Yoan Gouffran completed the scoring on 78 minutes.
It was a great result for Newcastle.
Sammy Ameobi – scoring a fantastic goal today at Hull
What’s been really good in the last several weeks is the improving form of Remy Cabella, and he had another good game today – and is starting to look a bit like the player we thought we had signed last summer.
John Carver talked about Remy after the game:
“I said to him before the game, ‘I know you have got ability, start doing something for me, give me a goal.’ I’m so pleased for him. His all-round performance was excellent. It’s a great finish. He will get stronger and fitter.”
“It’s hard coming from another league into the Premier League. There will be bad days, that’s what happens with flair players.” “It’s a great feeling. I’m so pleased with the performance. There was not a great deal in it first half.
“Tim Krul made a great save and that gave us platform. We grew in confidence and starting keeping the ball after the first goal.” “I want this job. We have refocused the guys’ season – it’s now a 15-game season for us.”
“Everyone now knows I’m the head coach.”
Haidara had a good game today – and it seems every time the French youngster gets a chance in the first team he plays well – and we also thought that Vurnon Anita deserved his start with his performance today – and Vurnon was very compact and tidy in midfield.
And even though Ayoze Perez had a fairly quiet game today for him – he still went close on three occasions.
It’s a great win – but it will be a sterner test next Sunday at home to Stoke City – but we will still have to go all out for another win.

Comment #1What we know about John Carver:
-He’s head coach (for the moment)
-He knows nothing about transfers, as he doesn’t have to worry about it
-He’s a Geordie
-Did you know he was head coach?
-Also he’s a Geordie. In case you missed it.

Comment #9What about the handball though, it was great!
Not even sly, it was like a net smash in volley ball.
Had to chuckle that he had the cheek to run off and celebrate, god loves a tryer.

Needs to get the points per match up, today was a good confidence builder against a poor opposition. Glad they were able to get some goals under their belts, but the players behind the forwards were not really tested and got away with mistakes. Very pleasant to have won as otherwise it would be dreadful, still a lot of work to be done.

Elmohamady should be embarrassed .
I think you should be banned for three games if you do something like that. Especially since that fat slob Phil Dowd didn’t even see it . If that stood there would have been hell on .

Comment #12I don’t know if carver is good enough but he certainly tries to win games and don’t think, other than Leicester, there has been a game yet where we haven’t had a go at teams.

When you are in the public eye, you are bound to pick up both praise and criticism. Now that Carver is the head coach, (and everyone know that now because he parks in the managers spot, and sit in the managers chair now), and he worked with the great Sir Bobby, not even to mention he’s a Geordie. He is in the position to receive both. Praise from you ( and rightly so after today) criticism from others, and maybe a little sarcasm from me. Oh and did I mention he’s the head coach now too? 😀

Canny result today. Well done to the lads and JC for going out there to win. Not saying i want JC permanently, bit at least he is playing a more positive game for now. Nice to see three players who are not in the best form get themselves on the score sheet. It can only help them improve.

There’s def a more positive outlook from the team, Colo had a mare and we wa lucky a cpl times but at the same time I felt we could have stepped it up a gear and the subs the where more fresh legs in a comfortable game than a neede defensive or attack minded one.

Comment #21Phill dowd is the most awful ref i have seen in the prem. He is even worse than that Uriah Rene, who answered ant critisism with “you are racist”
Dowd is a blithering useless oaf who isn’t fit for the blue star league or whatever it’s called these days.

Comment #24I thought Phil Dowd had a good game out there today, the way he cut out our pass and directed it to the Hull player was first class.
Should have been in the starting 11.
But he had a good game all the same.

Comment #26Great win with a lot of errors in tactical work in our team today.Anyway Hull City is not a measure for other team’s quality. They are poor as it can be.Probably relegated already.Bruce and Pardew are not PL quality and they will prove that soon.
John Carver is still Pardew-head manager and about 80% of the tactics and players positions and choice are still Pardewesque. We must be grateful for that other 20%.Massadio Haidara is a world class left back.

Pretty much sums up how I saw the game as well. Colo is getting worse, we need 2 CBs for best season who are ready for first team football, whether we buy them or satka, good, etc are able to step up I don’t know.
As Cisse, abeid, Obertan and eventually de Jong and Aarons come back we can offer even more threat with pace and quality.

People should know this clubs approach by now
Just have to show patience with Colo and Willo
They will both be off the books by June (both 33)
Lascelles to come in , Dummett looking better each game. We are after Jorge Mere and Ezequial Munoz (who is a beasr btw) all under26 , if we don’t get them this window we’ll get them in summer. The club just won’t be panicked into hasty purchases. We took a few windows to get Cabella and SdJ but we got them in the end.

The defence is a major worry, Willo did ok I’ve never been a great fan of Colo but I shudder 90% of the time he’s near the ball now. I’d like to think Carver would atleast consider Dummet and Willo but who knows.
There’s a few options now also the chance to play different systems.
I’d like to see Abeid get a game before Tiote gets back but I wouldn’t want to drop Anita after today.
I’m praying for no more injuries this year

Comment #33Lucky 0-3, due largely to Hull gifting possession deep in their own half and playing ruisty forwards who missed great chances; and Diame out of course; and Livermore and Huddlestone really subdued. Nevertheless, lovely Cabella goal, which could open the floodgates. The lad was a natural goal-scorer before he came to the Prem. El-Mohamedy is a good, gritty player. Having handled the ball – despairing instinct – he celebrated. What do you expect? I can only remember one clear example of a player owning up promptly (Fowler – telling the ref he had not been fouled after realising he had instintively dived in the box) – very creditable, but he got stick from his own club and supporters… It’s up to the officials to spot the handballs, dives, fouls and so on, and this is just more evidence that a multi-billion pound league should have immediate replay to check.
I thought it would be close, but Newcastle were sharper (but still scary in defence) and Hull rolled over. So far so good – and we still have players to bring back.

Problem is we need these players now. Everyone can see we need a centre back. It was what we were all saying even before Taylor got injured.
It’s no good to us getting players in next window or the one after when we’re crying out for them now
I understand the club want to adopt a European transfer policy and I’m ok with it. I’m ok with selling our big players now and then as long as they’re replaced accordingly, obviously with cheaper alternatives that have been carefully scouted by Carr.
But we don’t do that. We leave ourselves desperately short in vital areas to save a few quid.

Comment #39surely Good should be getting games now if fit and satka and streete need to be tested too.
If Good especially can hack it then phase him in for willo. Dummet is alsa a better CB than LB.
Abeid, aarons and peprez have come through so maybe Good and others can too.

It’s a very risky game they’re playing if they’re depending on lascelles, good and satka for next season. None of them are premiership proven and too young.
Colo is looking a shadow of his former self, Taylor is always injured and willo as much as I like him should only be a squad player.
We desperately need at least 1 experienced cb this window. Even if that’s all we get, I’d settle for that.
