Sky Italia are reporting that Inter-Milan will come in and try to sign their former player Davide Santon of Newcastle United, before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.
Davide Santon – Inter-Milan interested?
Manager Roberto Mancini is keen to bolster his squad and he has already signed Lukas Podolski from Arsenal, Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich and Marcelo Brozovic from Dinamo Zagreb in this January window.
With Davide Santon having just returned from a long term knee injury, he has not yet made it back into the Newcastle first team, and if Inter do come in for him, and the bid is big enough, it wouldn’t surprise us too much if Newcastle do the deal.
Newcastle have shown in past windows that they are willing sellers in January – but only if the money is big enough.
One thing Newcastle will be thinking of is that Davide’s contract runs out in 18 months time – when he will become a free agent – and we signed him from Inter in August of 2011 on a five year deal for £5.2M from the Italian club.
Inter are currently in 13th position in Serie A after 22 games played, and a full 13 points off third placed Napoli, so although Inter are strengthening their side in January, it’s unlikely they can qualify for a Champions League place by May.
They would need to make up at least 13 points on Napoli in the final 16 games of the season, after they finished in 5th place with 60 points last season and only (for them) qualified for the Europa League playoff position.
Ever since Santon has been at Newcastle for the last three and a half years, there has been interest in him from Italian clubs, including the two Milan clubs and Roma.
Davide could be the surprise departure tomorrow if Inter do come in with a big bid – maybe a minimum of £8M?
However, on a personal note, Davide is very settled at Newcastle with girlfriend Chloe Sanderson, and they have a baby daughter Sienna, who was born on 21st May 2013.
Davide has played 94 times with one goal for Newcastle and currently we have both Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara who can play at left back for Newcastle.

Comment #203Yes, The Derby, of course, but also, I like this side, we do have some terrific young players, DeJong to come back in and a coach at least for the time being, who yes, certainly does get it. It is unfortunate that this group, other than in that one game, don’t have a great deal to play for. It’s one of the reasons I don’t believe Ashley’s end game is mid table, because how do you continue to maintain interest in a product, that’s guaranteed to run out of puff, just when you really need it.

Interesting but how come nearly all other clubs operate differently to us? Are they all going to disappear down the pan or maybe, just maybe we are far to careful with money.
Look at the projected 50mil profit, that should be getting reinvested in the team, not all but a good amount.
The financial argument that ashley is great and a saviour is also garbage. He oversaw a relegation due to his poor appointment as manager (as your rightly said) and that caused out debt to double from 70 to 140mil.
You then need to consider that this debt now hangs over us, there is no plan in place to remove it and pay it off…even the free advertising doesn’t reduce the total. Something the club claim they can’t sell (only club in the football league who can’t sell advertising might I add).
Then there is the reason the club is so profitable, nothing to do with ashley, simply the prem league rakes in more tv money than ever, the only reason we are in the black and not the red.

This summer was good for amount of players but we still lacked the top striker and the commanding centre back….it’s so obvious what was needed

Llambias is on record years ago of saying they had a price in mind for each and every player and a list of 2-3 replacements already scouted. Sounded great and was probably true but clearly what hadn’t been factored in was the timing as far as getting in someone in and not being able to get at their valuation.
Then again perhaps it was, as was the gamble of waiting until the price is right hence still no new CB or striker. Further problem is of course other clubs do step in so there are not operating in a stationary market and some further down the list are more of the ready in a year or 2 rather than roghht now.
Does seem that blueprint is leaning more towards youth at present and it maybe that the assessment is that in some positions they have potential that could step up already hen e gamble of not replacing MYM this window?

Comment #208TS – but they would argue that they are trying to move forward. Some good players came in during the summer and we have seen the emergence of previous investments like a abheid and youth development like Aarons.
I understand this is not reflected yet in league position but eventually it should. It’s competitive out there and as bdg says, a lot of other clubs are operating at a loss.
Personally I think they are trying to move the club forward alas painfully slow.
This mass exodus of players never seems to happen. They sell those who want to go at top dollar or those they want shot of.

That in itself must be demoralising for the players as much as it is for us. Maybe that’s why they keep dropping off and going on those bad runs.
I know if I had run the length of the pitch only to find no striker in place I would be pretty pi$$ed off, same as when we concede so many goals though silly schoolboy errors.
Just a thought like, but it must affect their moral.

Nobody talks about a mass exodus, they talk about selling players when we are in a strong position and don’t replace them so all momentum is lost.
We’ve done in the past two season losing Ba and Cabaye in january just as we look like we could push on and challenge higher up. Players either shouldn’t be sold in january or the club should be prepared to pay a little over the odds to replace them.
We certainly aren’t looking to improve in my opinion given the fact the clubs ambition 7 years after ashley came in is still a top ten finish, not aims of anything higher yet.
they also publicly dismiss cups in the fans forum meetings, another outrage.

Loan to Inter 4 million euros minimum 14 appearances

the issue you raise is correct….if players see a club going no where and happy to sell key men and not replace them right away, then they will not see the point in going for it as they won’t be able to push on.
If you’re reward for half a good season is to lose you top player and be forced to struggle through to the end with no additions you are bound to be affected.

Villa are terrible hope they go down !!! Would love us to sneak Benteke in the summer for cheap if they do haha
Sad to see Santon go will need to change my username and also think he would have been great in an attacking team instead of a Pardew team

I’d still like to see santon tried in a wide midfield role, see how he gets on.
As for villa, feel sorry for their fans but they rubbed relegation in our faces so have little sympathy, even though they also have a poor owner sucking the life from the club.

Comment #218TS – they had no choice with ba. They had to put in that clause to get him in the first place. As for cabaye, he had been on strike and the lad wanted cl and massive wages. We could not offer either.

You don’t seem to have addressed the other aspect of my post. The part where I say if the club insist on selling in january they should be willing to buy a player even if it costs a little more than they would like….at the very least a loan player.
Also Bony had the same clause at swansea, they paid him to remove it….we have plenty of time to renegotiate Ba’s contract and pay him what he was worth, but we didn’t.
Cabaye should have also been told at the start of the season he wouldn’t leave until the end, he said himself the strike wasn’t what it was made out….I trust him mre than the muppets running our club. And even if he did strike, he wouldn’t have done it all season as he would have lost his spot in the world cup team…something he wouldn’t want at all.

Comment #227I think the summer window was a disgrace!
13 left and 9 came in, of those 9 2 went back to Forrest 1 Ferreya has never been seen. That’s 13 out and 6 in really.
If it wasn’t for Abeid Sammy Dummet Haidra Aaron’s Obertan stepping up we’d be in big trouble.
I though it was a disappointing window and another massive gamble, kids and fringe players stepped up to save us, I hope.
