John Carver has just announced the Newcastle side for the home game against Manchester United tonight, and an expected Ryan Taylor has come in for the injured Massadio Haidara at left-back, and young Lubo Saka has been brought in as a sub.
Teams:
Newcastle (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Moussa Sissoko, Mehdi Abeid, Sammy Ameobi; Emmanuel Riviere, Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Lubomir Satka, Vurnon Anita, Jonas Gutierrez, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez, Adam Armstrong
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Marcos Rojo; Ander Herrera, Daley Blind; Angel Di Maria, Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young; Wayne Rooney (c)
Substitutes: Anders Lindegaard, Phil Jones, Paddy McNair, Michael Carrick, Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj, Radamel Falcao
Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire)
Other than that one change the team is unchanged from Saturday, and John Carver again has the side in a 4-4-2 formation.
That’s the team we thought John would choose – so it’s not a great surprise – and it’s a good side, with Ryan Taylor hopefully bringing some threat from his free kicks and even corners.
Less than one in four Newcastle fans think we can win this game tonight.
We need to take something out of this game.

Comment #2Risky very risky we could potentially get murdered in midfield at the same time we should be able to trouble them at the back as Villa done a bit of a hatchet job on Sammy but I think him and Raylor will get plenty of chances to put the ball in the box tonight as Man Utd wont double up

Comment #6I dunno our Toon, I think that’s as good a team as can be fielded. Obertan pace and against his own club, could be ok. He can actually get balls into the box. I just hope Abeid takes his big chance because that’s what this is. I think attack is the best way to take pressure of our weak Williamson er back line. It might cool them down a bit.

Comment #7Tsunki…I can understand why – not easy with Belfast substititing two English words with another two English words and thinking it’s Danish!
…those Northern Irish people 😉
It seems we are in for a woop-ass tonight!

Comment #16Think it’ll be more 4-4-1-1 with Riviere dropping deeper!
abeid important tonight as Sissoko isn’t great in centre midfield! Work rate lacks a bit and his positioning isn’t great!
Have to worry bout Rooney, he loves the toon he does!
Ryan Taylor important! Only actual leader on our 11 and also dangerous from set pieces

Riviere shouldn’t be starting and Anita should, the simple reason being that we need to win the midfield battles, which we won’t as we are outnumbered in there. If Riviere isn’t scoring then he’s contribution is minimal. At least with Anita it gives sissoko the chance to counter them as we would have cover!!

Comment #20Our Toon. I gave up on Anita completely a few games ago.
I think the formation we will revert to will be the familiar 1-10, possibly not until the 8th minute after Rooneys 2nd.

Don’t get me wrong mate I don’t rate Anita, today though is more about the shape of the team, unfortunately we only have Anita that can play as a DM. Against big sides we have to pack the midfield and try to counter them.

Comment #30Considering who is available, think it’s a decent line up. Attack and get the crowd behind us and maybe we can get the win, big chance for abeid as he’ll have to follow Rooney. Glad Mata is on the bench.
Just hope riviere can smash one in!
