We have had almost eight seasons under Mike Ashley as the Newcastle owner, and what have we to show for it – one top eight finish in eight seasons plus a relegation.
Jonas Gutierrez – contract runs out in June
And we are very likely going to see a huge clear-out of players in the summer, and interim head coach John Carver has said so today.
This is what John has said:
“Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley know that there has to be a clear-out.” “It is pretty obvious to the man in the street and to the professionals, it has to be done.”
“There are people out of contract, there are people who are not good enough and they know that.” “I am telling you now because I have been part of it in the last few weeks, there are things in place.”
Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez are two who have their contracts run out at the end of June, and why we still have Facundu Ferreyra on loan, we have no idea.
Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson are two other players who may be sold this summer, and we expect both Vurnon Anita and Cheick Tiote to also be sold.
So it could be a huge clear-out – but Newcastle will have to bring in some replacements, and we haven’t been too good at that over the last several years.
Newcastle must also get a bigger squad as a defense against the club getting so many injuries every season.
We have to do one of two things – get a bigger squad – or else find out what the reasons are we have so many injuries every season and fix them.
As we reported earlier today, there are also some of our better players who may want to move out and/or big offers come in for them, and they are sold.

Comment #82I am expecting the team sheet to read 4-3-3, which in NUFC terms, means 4-5-1.
Carver is bound to be swaying towards 4-2-3-1, but I doubt he has he courage to name the same formation that played against Everton.

Comment #91Not a bad line up but Sissoko is going to need to show discipline in defensive midfield. I hope he understands his role today

Comment #92Carver will try to shut up shop today and not venture forward much -but we’ll end up getting trounced. Gooners are smelling a lot of blood today.
The starting point for me is at least 3 – 0 to Arsenal – but will not be surprised if it is double that.
BDG – trying to make value comparisons between our players and City players is daft. Their players are better footballers than our players and were therefore valued higher and always will be bit like comparing apples and pears.

Comment #93AncientC – Not going to go on about the debt thing. MASH holdings owns NUFC. Both are wholly owned by MA. NUFC now owes its debt to MASH. Left hand – Right hand thing. NUFV debt is an asset to MASH which reduces its corporation tax bill. Once it is no longer advantageous to do that, NUFC will pay the sosoft loan to MASH. Ultimately everything owned by Ashley, holding company club and debt.
