It seems that Newcastle are certainly not the first choice of Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, although hopes were raised yesterday afternoon when his agent Pini Zahavi arrived in Newcastle and said that Aleksandar would be signing for Newcastle.
But since then it looks like other clubs are still interested in the striker and still involved trying to make a deal for him with Anderlecht – and those three clubs can all offer him Champions League football which he seems to crave.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – four clubs still after him
Pretty in Pink
Roma were one of the clubs interested in him, and it looks like they are still interestd in him according to a report late yesterday in Calciomercato.it – which they called an exclusive.
This is the piece in Calciomrecato.it
¨The riddle of which club he will join will soon be solved.¨
¨The Anderlecht striker is coveted throughout Europe and on his trail are Benfica (interested), Porto (who would offer €15M plus two players), Roma (awaiting the development of the transfer of Dzeko) and Newcastle.¨
¨Calciomercato.it contacted Alderlecht’s Herman van Holsbeeck , their Sporting Director exclusively, and it seems the 20 year-old could sign for a club very soon:¨
“We are talking with several teams,” “Will his future lie in Italy? I mention no names, but we are very busy.”
The article does a good job of listing where the other three clubs stand with regard to getting the striker.
Roma really want Dzeko as their first choice, and Porto don’t really have the money, so it seems they are offering players in exchange for the striker.
But we would be surprised if they will offer two players is in addition to €15M – and Benfica are probably the dark horse.
It’s a good question whether Newcastle should bring this lad in, when it is clear he really wants to join a club with Champions League participation.
We assume his agent Pini Zahavi is still in Newcastle today.
What do you think?

Comment #3I think we should go for Charlie instead. First, no matter how many goals he scored for anderlecht, he is still an unproven premier league player. Second, he is too much a hassle. It is obvious thst nufc is his second best option and why would we want to have a player who is not loyal. The consequence can be disastrous and disrupt the harmony in the dressing room.

Comment #4Its good this is the level of player we are looking at but think our only chance to get these kinds of players is to do so quickly and quietly.
Not sure if it is us who have taken too long and now it is public or the player and agent wanting it to be public so he gets the move he really wants.
Either way its understandable that we arent his first choice and although id be happy to have him i would be thinking from the start that his eye will be on the door at all times.
I hope we have a decent backup option as this one is a long shot.

Comment #5Bring him in and be realistic about where we are as a team right now. We are rebuilding and are a bottom half of the table club. If he comes in and gets 20 goals we’ll be most likely looking at a decent league finish and massive interest from other clubs. If we can keep him for a second year and he does the same we’ll be a top half team and probably 40 mill richer. At that point maybe we have rebuilt our reputation to the point where players will want to come for other reasons. If the lad is good enough for Champions League we cant hold it against him for using as a stepping stone to get there. It will do us both some good.

Comment #8Newcastle are obviously trying hard to bring in quality players. So far so good. Good players are always in demand so they will be harder to recruit. Wijnaldum was an excellent quality buy and does demonstrate there is a lot going on behind the scenes. As one of the club’s many critics I am prepared to be patient to see who else Newcastle will recruit and then judge them. So far so good !

People are not intentionally ganging up. Its just that many happen to share a similar opinion to a particularly outrageous claim.

Comment #17I’d love to see him here, but it’s not looking good. TBH, we need defenders more than anything else. Wake me up when we have 4 new defenders and another striker signed up and in the squad. Until then, next season isn’t looking any more promising than the last.

Comment #18On a less depressing note, there’s a new Facebook page started up for Toon Army stranded down here in the South West. Please give it a ‘like’ and help get numbers up so we can end our exile and at least have some sympathetic company in the pub on match days!

Id rather keep Cabella. He has already had a season to adjust, wheras thauvin would probably need one himself. We might as well see what SM can do with Cabella and co.

The point i am making is that it was totally logical for us to think carver would stay. After 8 years…8 YEARS that is….of broken promises, why would any logical mind think anything different?? Just because this sudden break from the norm has happened, doesn’t mean that anyone who thought they would never see it suddenly deserve ridicule, and should have to appologise. In fact, many of those who refused to renew STs and joined in protests, deserve THANKS. I certainly thank them. They are the reason for these changes. It needs to continue.

Comment #29Munster I think you missed the point about the Carver complaints. Based on the appalling penny pinching track record of the owner and the pathetic chancing of this clubs sporting future by not just continuing with Pardew until he went of his own accord they then admitted they never had a plan to replace him, then merely promoted the vibe arranger fir convenience, and thought they’d ride out the season with him thinking he couldn’t possibly be bad enough to take us down, which he did his damndest to thwart. It was entirely reasonable for fans to assume they would continue with their budget rude sock puppet ad nauseum if they could float in the premier league.

Comment #40Anyone notice we still intend to start the pre season jollies with our old friends Obertan, Gouffran, Riviere, Williamson……… I don’t think it’s quite fashionable to drop the ‘squad clearout’ concept too soon.
