Darlow, Bigirimana, Satka, Wijnaldum Start At Portland – Live Video

Portland Timbers (MLS)_logo.svgnufc emblem

Newcastle will play the last of their three games of the US tour tonight when they play the Portland Timbers at Providence Park.

This is the only MLS team Newcastle will play on the tour.

Head coach Steve McClaren has just announced his team for tonight’s game and it looks like Newcastle will give a lot of their youngsters and fringe players a game tonight, against a Portland team that will largely be made up of their second team.

Newcastle: Darlow, Bigirimana, Satka, Ferguson, Aarons, Abeid, Wijnaldum, Gouffran, Sissoko, Ayoze, Cisse
Subs: Woodman, Janmaat, Obertan, De Jong, Armstrong, Anita

That looks like Newcastle will play three at the back maybe in a 3-5-2 formation but Bigi, Satka and Ferguson are not very experienced..

It looks like they will be the beck three – and maybe McClaren is trying a different formation to see how the lads can adapt to it.

Only Sissoko and Cisse started the last game at Sacramento Republic, so McClaren wants everybody to get a game on this tour.

Fabricio Coloccini has an injured Achilles and Emmanuel Riviere has left the squad through injury and returned to Newcastle.

It would be good to get another win tonight, and we have one win and one loss so far in America.

You can watch the game live here.

Maybe the odd line-up’s a stroke of tactical genius – lure Portland into a sense of complacency then pounce…… pounce like a caged hippo!

Gouffran useless, giving needless freekick away. Then having no player over 5ft costs us in the air once again with the header.

Just hoping this is an exercise to highlight we need to bring in 2 CBs!

Our attacking going forward is decent but once it comes into our defence we allways look like conceding

Worry not. It’s a typical friendly where we allow the home side a good start then turn the exhibition football on in the second half.

    Hey ho.

haha 3-1 down to a team of amateurs 🙂

Repeat of last goal, they have 4 players at least a foot taller than any of ours, knockdown and goal.

Every set piece could be a goal.

    BRING BACK WILLO!!!!!

We still can’t defend corners. Even if there is a bullshit-backline.. our midfielders are dropping their markings (Sissoko, Gouffran etc.)

We need 2 new CBs and some fucking defensive training both regular play and set pieces… christ!

Deantoon, I kind of feel the same. But I don’t expect to see Ferguson at CB in a premier match ever.

I love how the commentators are constantly saying how there CF is doing so well against the premier league CBS haha..

Not taking anything away from Portland, they are all over us. But that is far from a good team we have put out.

Look back at some of the early 70’s sides playing for £200 quid a week if lucky . They were Hungry ..look at the battles Leeds V Man Utd ..wicked . they played for pride . Got a feeling all we are watching nowadays is all bizz and Money and doing the least to earn it .

I know its only pre Season , but play as you mean to go on ..show some fooking fight and spirit .

Sissoko again, missing the ball. He really just gives off the impression he doesnt want to be here or that he gives the slightest fOck.

Conceding 3 with this defence is not surprising, especially with 2 from set pieces. But with the amount of midfielders and attackers we have in the line up i would have expected more going forward.
