It has to be a worry to Newcastle that Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off yesterday after only 16 minutes and that in his first four games he has picked up two yellows cards and one red now – and at only 20 years old – that’s the sixth red card of his career.
Mitrovic getting he red card
That sending off cost us the game, and Aleksandar will not be available for three games now since any appeal from Newcastle will surely fail, because the lad went in way over the top in his challenge.
This is what analyst Richard Keys of beIN, who was at Sky Sports for a long time, said about the challenge yesterday:
Mitrovic is a silly boy. Only 20. 6 career reds now. Nailed on today. It was a nasty challenge. He got away with one like it at Swansea.
— Richard Keys (@richardajkeys) August 29, 2015
The more we see the TV replays of the incident, the more it looks like the red card was justified, because he does go over the top in his challenge on Francis Coquelin, who of course duly writhes around on the pitch in complete and utter agony.
The really bad news is that it seems the referees are now on the lookout for Mitrovic, and if he doesn’t change his ways more red cards could be in his future.
That is not good for Newcastle, and somehow Steve McClaren and his coaching staff have to show Aleksandar the error of his ways.
What do you think?

Comment #1On the subject of the last thread, sell Cisse in January and bring someone in who both adds to the game when he’s not scoring and who won’t sit out half the season due to injuries, suspensions and ACON!

Comment #2Hairy hands should know better. The lad is being targetted. Yellow was sufficient at that point in the game.

Comment #5mitrovic will only have himself to blame now for his reputation. he will get cards he doesn’t deserve because of his rep. he’s a liability and we should bring in Austin and sell Mitrovic.

Comment #6I agree Bambams, when taking everything in to consideration that was not a red card! The refs do neither themselves nor the game any favors by throwing red cards around so early on in the game!
…they really have to be sure. The ref yesterday sat the standard with the poor decided red and hr didn’t follow up on it. He just ruined the game I think.
And it was not just our game yesterday which got wrecked.

in spite of this we could have taken a point yesterday had it not been for the worst defender in the league COLOCINNI
0 wins in 4
only 2 points accrued
bottom 3 in the league
these are the consequences of playing this worthless defender in the starting 11

Comment #8I agree with you moonraker,
We should let go Cisse and bring Austin.
Austin’s workrate and strength is much better than Cisse. For one,Cisse only getting weaker and inconsistent because of his age.

Comment #9AFCON is an international competition. Players should not be penalised for playing for their countries
Also its being moved to the summer months so wont interfere with the league in the future
rather silly to sell cisse on that basis
why oh why

Comment #12Selling Cisse without replacing him with a proven striker would be a serious nail in our coffin as we have no one else, Perez would be the best of what is left as Mitrovic has proven that he can’t be trusted

Comment #14By FA rules,if u raise ur foot higher, especially your two feet, that is a straight red.
Don’t have much complaints about the Mitrovic
red and the lad should be disciplined more by our coaching stuff, but Mariner yesterday just ruined the game and unfair on our players.
He (Mariner),and Mike Jones are the same!

My thoughts exactly. He ruined the game before we had a chance.
Mitrovic will learn from it, he will be wiser.
He is twenty years old and just trying too hard.
I do not want him to lose that aggression but channel it as Shearer did.

Comment #23For the appeal we should take a video of callum mcmanaman tackle on Haidara. …..
Still laughing at Keown about the Arsenal players not running to their fallen comrades – they all knew fair well they weren’t hurt. That last one who jumped four feet in the air, you would think he was a kangaroo

Think we have to sell all our players first to raise that 150 million 😉
Either that or Ashley put the decimal point in the wrong place and SM has 1.5 million to spend over the next three years 🙂

Comment #27Bambams…I wouldn’t appeal the red, but I would set action in motion to ensure Mitrovic is not being treated differently.
EU has strong rules and penalties for organizations like the FA for not treating ppl equally and showing transparency.

Comment #33How can anyone say that’s a nailed on red? The more I watch it the more foaming with the ref I get! There is nee way in a decade of Sunday’s was that a red card! Does he stop and look at the bloke? Erm no! His eye is on the ball! Here man if any other player that’s ever played in the premier league made that tackle they would have been booked! What an absolutele liberty! If I make a series of massive cock ups at work I’m disciplined yet time after time these nuggets get away with it! 1 red and 6 bookings to their 1 booking? Really? Drop him to the lower leagues where he gets no media coverage! Really happy with how we performed. Can’t fault any of the lads for their efforts and I’m not saying that without the red we would have won, but it would have been nice to have had the chance. The media has had a problem with us for a while now and now refs too!

Comment #34I saw the highlights of most of the games last year, and withoutr apportioning blame and naming names the whole Club was Shiiite from Ashley right down through Pardew who continually spouted Bull and JC who had a extreme high opinion of himself ! Pleased that that Chapter is finnished! Although Pardew is now doing well !
The Club was empty, with no passion, especially after Pardew left a sinking ship!
Wind forward a few months and 50 Mil spent and a half decent trainer? He at least sets the Lads up with some sort of game plan, and has them playing a bit more physical, last year a lot of the games they just lay down and gave up after going behind.
MOTD has become a laughable programme, with some of the worst Anylysts in the game Keown used to be a sweetheart himself when he was playing? I can remember some cruching tackles back then so he aint really qualified to make judgement. I also found it typical that they accumulated all the fouls that we made and showed them one after the other ! What a complete and utter load of bollocks!
The worst player on the Park yesterday was the Referee, and they do have a dificult job, but MOTD did,nt show any tackles by the Gooners at all, preferring to show every physical challenge made by us in detail , and let the Plonkers drivel on about the phsical side of the game. It would,nt of surprised me if he had given more than one red out yesterday to us.
Man of the Match for me was Krul who managed to make a number of good saves apart from the unfortunate and it was “Unfortunate”! deflection for their winner which was just par for the course after the Red card. There was not much Collo could of done about the deflection, so give him a break!
On Mitrovich, well i read somewhere that he was being singled out much the way Tiote was while he was still playing. Where is he, he could of come on yesterday as a holding midfielder. I only believe Mitro needs to break his duck and score and he will be okay.
Mclaren could of used a sub just before the end but did,nt, maybe he could of brought another forward on with fresh legs after they had scored.
We are now in the relegation zone after 4 games , but everyone knew the first 8 games were, nt gonna be easy.
My only plus is that the Scum are just as bad as they were last year but Advocaat is a good trainer who knows how to motivate his players, if he gets them playing well we will be bottom before Christmas ?
