There are various reports coming out of France that Newcastle have agreed to sell their 19 year-old midfielder Olivier Kemen to Lyon after transfer terms were agreed.
Olivier had become disenchanted at Newcastle, because of his inability to break into the first team squad, and there was news in the last day or two that he may be signing for Monaco.

Last month his agent was talking with AC Milan about a possible deal, with other clubs such as Monaco, Liverpool an Spurs also said to be interested.
L’Equipe are reporting the two clubs agreed the deal over the weekend, and we suppose Olivier could be in Lyon today undergoing his medical, before the deal is officially announced.
Newcastle signed Olivier two years ago from Metz when he was just 16 years-old, and we think this is a mistake to let the youngster leave Newcastle so quickly.
He could have been sent out on loan to a lower league club in England to give him some playing time, as we did with two other teenagers at the club – Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman.
The transfer window closes in France today – and the deal is said to have been brokered for around £500K – peanuts.
Update: Olivier last night took to his Twitter account to announce he had signed for Lyon.
Officiellement joueur de Lyon ?? vraiment très content de signer dans ce grand club pic.twitter.com/sxflI7UjzT
— pablo olivier kemen (@Kemen92) August 31, 2015
It says Officially Lyon player – really happy to sign (for) this great club.
For whatever reason, Newcastle have not been able to persuade the youngster that his future lies on Tyneside.
We are sorry to see him leave, and of course we wish Olivier all the very best in what could be a very stellar career in football.
Comments welcome.

Comment #4With no other transfer into the First team the likely candidates to be sold for large bids has got to be Sissoko or Perez. The younger player has far more attraction for the buying club and hopefully a significantly high value based upon potential. However the deals involving Academy players to date do not give a lot of hope.

This lad or any young captain of youth squad is someone who has potential, why are we selling potential?
Your comment reminds me of some of the dross man utd fans used to say about Pogba when he left…..not saying Kemen will be a pogba but pogba got fed up at not getting games, moved and now is valued at 90m plus. If kemen becomes even half the player Pogba is then 500k for the french u19 captain is peanuts

Comment #10Seems a bit odd this deal.
If he were leaving for first team football, you will still think is would be in the 1-2m range regardless of sell on clauses. Why not a loan to Lyon if it is about first team football?
I have seen this guy but is he not France U20 captain? Were Milan on after him. Does not stack up.
Hopefully Lacazette is on his way in the oposite direction.
What ever happened to him leaving for a big whack this summer?

Man U is a much better team than the Toon. They always had decent players during his time there. It happens.
On this Kemen though we have not got amazing players here, im sure if he was outstanding he would of got his chance.
Im not concerned really, im quite happy with our current midfield. I trust they never seem him as progressing into a starter. If the lad does well then good for him I wouldn’t be bitter. Sometimes players just need to move on to better themselves and start a new chapter. With our midfield I don’t think he would of been given that opportunity here.

Comment #13If he wants to get in the first team and he’s good enough he would get into the first team. So if he goes it’s no problem, because SM either thinks he’s not good enough, or his heads elsewhere. I don’t see the problem really, it’s not like the reserves are gonna miss him.
Thought I’d just drop in as it seems relatively tool-free tonight. I can’t stand it sometimes when you have jeff/jib bobbybee Ian Toon and the blue sky band snapping and chirping at everything you say it’s like trying to hold a conversation in a noisy bar.

Comment #15Fabio Borini. Liverpool number who tried to drive a hard bargain but now finally has to suck it up and realise he’s found his level. Joining the biggest club in the north east eh? I’m sure it’ll look fantastic on those sleet – dashed Wednesday nights in Doncaster.

Comment #16I don’t think even hardcore Sunderland fans are gonna buy that one Fabio, I’m sure it prompted some mild astonishment even among the players, most of which, like you, don’t really want to be there, and certainly not the manager, who put the lot of them up for sale.

I wonder what the formation will be…
I am guessing a 4-2-3-1. Wishy-washy 2 holding midfielders with an isolated striker. West Ham will never see it coming. lol.

There is talk we have tried to get Lasogga in on loan until the end of the season. I think it’s all depending on Cisse leaving or not.

Comment #25It’s not like his going will leave a big hole in the team, but it’s yet another case of NUFC investing time and money on a young player to no good purpose. Do we not have the expertise to identify the right type of player? Is our coaching not good enough to bring them on when they get here? Anybody holding their breath waiting for this kid from Northampton to take the PL by storm? Scouted by Carr, coached by Beardsley – no takers then?

I think it will leave a hole. That would mean that Riviere bloke would jump up in the que amd he is terrible. i think Perez has done very well and is going to handle this league no bother at all.
I don’t have any confidence in Riviere and Mitrovic at the minute. This Lasogga aswell would take time to settle that’s even if he is good enough to begin with, seems a Riviere mark 2 to me. Another gamble.
At least in Perez we know he has got what it takes.
I won’t be impressed if he goes like, I think he is going to be a brilliant Premier League player.

Comment #29Saw Ed’s headline on Perez, then followed by NUFC agree on transfer and thought oh sxxt here we go again. But thankfully, it ain’t him.
Perez may be raw, but he seems our bigest talent and I include the new transfers. He is pacey, tricky, penetrative, can score, turns quick, is aware, holds on to the ball when all the others are offloading a hot potato. Frankly, he’s looked better than NUFC’s recent mediocrity.

Comment #30ToF…I definitely think our coaching staff at youth level isn’t good enough. We don’t seem to bring that many players through!
I would like some sort of Sports Director here if his job was to spot and sign youth and help bring them through (into the first team)

I’v fancied Sissoko and Cisse to be away from the start, Perez never crossed my mind. I’d actually be more bothered about Perez leaving than Cisse tbh.
I think we will do business if we have players sold, whether they will be good enough is a different matter.
Lasogga strikes me as a player in Carr’s cheap back up list like Riviere.

Comment #32The old sensationalism is wearing a bit thin these days Ed.
I appreciate that you knew that no-one would visit the page if you mentioned Kemen in the headline but to use the old Bait ‘n’ Switch on an article about a kid who has played a total of 90 minutes at Under – 21 level is pretty desperate.
Essentially – cheap.

Well we have apparantly tried for Lasogga for a loan deal, if that’s true I don’t think Austin is in there thinking. Pretty gutted about this actually if true.
Riviere was struggling for game time when we signed him, this Lasogga has been poor also last season. Certaintly strikes me as a player way down in Carr’s list of strikers and fits into the potential bracket rather than ready made.
Hope it’s all a load of rubbish.

Hamburger SV approached the Toon last week according to the German press and we weren’t interested.
In his last interview SM said he is happy with the striker situation until the winter window.
Remember he promised every player a fair crack of the whip and Manu Riviere (regardless of the fans opinions) has had no chance to show what he can do because of injury.

Comment #38It would have been nice to keep Kemen, loan him out and then see how he gets on, but instead we are letting him go for a pittance which makes little sense unless he is just sub par – in which case, why bother 2 years ago?
As for Perez, if Man U are keen to spunk 36million on a young French kid, then I’d be expecting a similar amount for Perez based on potential and having a good season under his belt here.
Not expecting any more incomings to be honest, which leaves me feeling like we have undercooked it again. Good players signed up, but we still lack strength and depth in key areas, and still have no real leader .
