At Steve McClaren´s press conference yesterday he talked about playing against Chelsea and Manchester City in the first half and the fact that Newcastle looked a very good side.
But in the second half of both games we dropped off the pace and last time out at the Etihad Stadium we paid for that by conceding five goals in the first eighteen minutes of that terrible second half and lost 6-1.
Steve McClaren – knows what he wants
That was after being ahead in that game until only a couple of minutes before half time.
What Steve and the coaching staff have been telling the players is they must play like they did in the last two games in the first half for the full 90 minutes and if we can do that the results will come.
So it´s not too surprising that Yoan Gouffran says that confidence is still high in the squad but that the team have to beat Norwich on Sunday.
To do that the Frenchman says they need to play like we did in the first half at City for the whole game.
This is what Yoan Gouffran has said:
“We have to get a win against Norwich – not a draw.” “The confidence is still there, but we have to show it for not only one half.”
“We can’t give up. We have to play like we did in the first half at Man City for all the game. If we do that, I think we can win.”
We have won just one game of the last 19 games and that was on the last day of last season when we also got a clean sheet in the 2-0 win at home to West Ham.
If we cannot get 3 points against Norwich City then we are in trouble of being stuck at the bottom of the league or in the bottom three for some time – because we are currently 6 points out of 4th bottom place.
That´s not good.

Comment #2I want… the head coach to focus his mind and efforts on bucking the team up instead of talking embarrassing tripe.

Watford did come into my thinking like, I was certain we would see them off.
Once we get this monkey off our backs and get this first win I think we will be OK and slowly shift upto mid-table. Top 8 though no way unless the problems are addressed in the squad with players who can hit the ground running with experience.
