We´ll be talking this week about how unlucky we were to have Coloccini sent off against Sunderland but it´s still another derby game we have lost.
That´s six in a row against a Sunderland team who have been struggling in the league over the last three seasons and before the game yesterday they were bottom of the table without a win.
And before the penalty you could see why they were bottom – they looked hopeless.
Steve McClaren 6 points from 10 games
But the referee´s poor decision will help deflect attention from what is one of Newcastle´s worst starts after 10 games in their history.
It´s not the worst after 10 games because back in the 1898-1899 season we had just four draws in our first ten games, but then we won the 11th game when we took Liverpool apart 3-0 at St. James’ Park on Guy Fawkes Day – 5th November 1898 – a game I missed.
🙂
That meant we had 7 points after 11 games so if we draw against Stoke we´ll equal that points total – if we lose then it will be the worst start after 11 games in our entire history.
After 10 games last year we had three successive wins and had just beaten Liverpool 1-0 at home and were on 13 points and 11th in the table.
We would move up to 5th place by winning our next two games at West Brom (2-0) and at home to QPR (1-0).
And certainly this year is the worst year we have ever had in the league with 29 games played and only 19 points gained.
[table “42” not found /]That´s a loss rate of 62% and a win rate of 13.8%.
🙁
There have also been three cup games this year – and we lost two of those and won thr other.
We have 9 games to go in the league before the end of the year so this year we will play a full season of 38 games – it´s going to be interesting to see how many points we can pick up – but so far it’s been worse than woeful.
And we need points if we are to be clear of the bottom three by January when surely we will be bringing in new signings to improve the squad and try to keep in the Premier League.
It´s probably better we will be talking about the referee this week – anything but have to look at our woeful record this season with even Sunderland now above us in the league table.
It´s not good.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Yes Ed we know it’s the worst year in years – what do you suggest we do sack McClaren – bring back Carver and ply the awful HOOFBALL we were submitted to for the past years – Stop moaning and reflecting on the past and get behind the team for next Saturday.
We are playing better football this season than in the last 5 years – just need a wee bit of luck.
I hope the players fans and staff take the frustrations of yesterday out on Stoke next weekend.

Comment #3guys , its all well and good saying Ashley needs to protect his investment by spending big again in Jan, i believe he will spend, they said over the next 3 windows he will spend, for me its more about buying the right players, but do you really think that there will be a lot of good players for sale in Jan? sorry but i dont, we might get 1, the players we will be after will be at clubs that are in some sort of European competition or still in domestic cup competitions.
it is going slow , but we are twice the team we were last year, so by xmas i think we will be safe, good results more often then not follow good football, its exactly what i said about P45, poor football will bring poor results.. and it did..
Sheve is doing ok in my book.

Comment #5Catchy…not sure how you can say he’s doing ok when he persists with Colo and Tiote when there are credible alternatives in the team…shows some fatal flaws if you ask me.
I’m undecided with SM at the minute…but admittedly he has got the team playing better football but we simply can’t defend and that in that has pretty much been down to Colo…so why persevere?

As much as I want Colo out and a new CB in Jan I’d like a CM before anyone else.

Think the foul count was 13-10 to the shitsiders and how can the ref keep on lecturing clattermole yesterday and not show a yellow – beggers belief

I’m with you on Steeve, I can see some things are getting better.
However Colo as Cpt stinks IMO he wouldn’t even play if it was upto me and I can’t understand why Tiote is all of a sudden flavour of the month.
He’s hardly played for 2 years then he just starts 2 games and Anita’s dropped, even though Tiote looks no where near match fit and was miles off the pace for Norwich. Don’t understand it at all.

Comment #9If I was a Mackem this morning I wouldn’t be jumping up and down thinking we stitched them Geordie b….,ds up again . Another 3 points haha. Far from it , I’d be frothing at the mouth and screaming – what the f–k is going on at my club . No we are not much better but their performance yesterday was disgraceful and I Would want to know how they intended to turn things around .so just to put me in a better mood ,watch the game again and wonder how on earth they are going to survive . Yes they won yesterday but at least there is a glimmer of light .as for those lucky b …. ds , what have they got ??
No doubt about it. They are down . Hahahahaha

Comment #10In the january window you get players who were tapped up the previous spring to move in summer and then their team unexpectedly qualifies for Europe and they say “let’s see how we get on”.
A case in point was Robin Knoche who thought that Wolfsburg would do OK in the CL , he has yet to play at all for the German side!
This winter will see lots of quality defenders on the market because last summer was a massive transfer merry go round of defenders ,some of which have not worked out , some of which have caused incumbent defenders to rethink their situation.
Just in the North of England , Pellegrini and Kompany have an uneasy truce , Klop has muttered about Liverpools defense , Chelsea will be back to Everton for John Stones , Sam Allardyce cannot be happy with the scums back 4 and then ourselves .

The ref must have been paid off.
Cattermole was late on Perez Colback and Windi more than once and knee’d Perez In the back, if you showed people his fouls from the game most would guess he’d got atleast one yellow.
Ref let it go from the 1st minute then couldn’t get his cards out quick enough for us.

Comment #12Why are there sad virus-infested unwashed paedos on here? No mates?
As a Welshman, ex-forces, 35 years visiting the NE,20 years living here, these dirty mackems are a disgrace.
Their hero is a paedo, they were silent – I was sat amongst them -until the pub ref intervened.
We are not great, but at least we tried to play football.
In a Toon centre pub, I was glassed by a mackem, after being at the 5-1 match -tuned him.
Down the road we have a mackem paedo – watches the schoolkids – tuned him.
I had a druggie mackem neighbour – he moved out after a tuning. I feel sorry for the Geordies having these inbred paedos, just down the road…….
Is blunderland where they tipped all the nuclear waste from Sellafield? It is the arse-end of England/Britain.

Comment #13For all the hard luck stories, the fact is we are where we are. Sitting around the bottom of the table, and as it appears to be developing, one of five sub-standard teams who are going to be playing relegation Russian-roulette again. Nobody ever gets relegated purely by bad luck. You make your own luck. Or so I’m told.

Comment #14All this talk of 1898 is irrelevant. Pundits are conveniently overlooking a season that is within living memory of many fans, and a one where (apart from the first game) the suffering never stopped as we tumbled out of successive cups until we were relegated.
So, let me take you back to 1977/78, and focus on that miserable start to the season up to the last game played in November (LD1 = League Division 1).

It annoys me that they keep playing away games in these shite strips even when there’s no colour clash! I know why they do it but I wanna see the lads play in black and white !
