We had chances to win this game in the second half after Everton had dominated the first half – but just like last week against bottom club Aston Villa we failed to take the chances.
Hopefully the powers that be at the club will know we need a top striker brought in next month.
This is how Alan Shearer reacted to another poor result for the second week running at St. James’ Park and we just have to start picking up some wins at home if we are to survive this season in the Premier League as we sink back to 3rd bottom.
Alan Shearer – poor finishing
For the second week in a row we are punished for poor finishing #pavelisageordie

People expect us to match Everton in possession? Im crying ? C’mon, having the home advantage doesn’t just tell the players how to play good football. We’re just limited in our qualities and the only way they exceed that is through confidence. We aren’t consistent enough which means we’re either up or we’re down, the confidence never settles. But at least they are trying with the setup given to them. That’s all we can ask.

Comment #2To all those saying we’re playing better and its only a matter of time.
The table doesn’t lie. We’re fighting for the 3rd relegation place, and it doesn’t look like changing much in 2016.

I’m guessing that that applied to Leicester last season aswell?

Why shouldn’t we match Everton for possession? Have we really fallen that far that at home to a average Everton side we should surrender the ball to them?

Comment #5You might have been able to score those on off chances we currently get but even you’d be made to look crap as a striker in this starting team. You’d have far more chance of winning the lottery than getting hattricks or breaking that goal scoring record because of such a crap creativity.

Comment #7This is a team full of losers. This club does not find a way to win. They find ways to lose.
I don’t care about effort. Effort does not keep you in the EPL. Agree with Shearer- poor play on our part cost the match.
Typical Toon these past few years. Can’t deliver when it matters and choke at end of Match.

And the table won’t lie after 38 games either.
Using Leicester to try to prove we are a poorly performing top side just needing a bit of confidence and luck is a triumph of hope over experience. We had one shot on target FFS.
We deserve to be where we are.

Comment #10If this was earlier in the season I wouldn’t be nearly as concerned. But we’re halfway through the season, a point above the relegation zone. Yes there were some positives today; thought we weren’t as niave defensively, felt we were decent attacking down the wings and getting balls in the box. However, we don’t have time to slowly turn things around. We need to start picking up points and quickly. It’s all well and good Steve saying we’re making progress but if that progress isn’t turning into points then is it really worth anything.
From what I’ve read and heard, Steve’s a good coach, and at best should be a number 2. I think he’s tactically naive and its cost us in a number of games this season. I don’t like to chop and change manager but stability for stability’s sake is how we end up with another Pardew, narrowly avoiding relegation season after season, until one day it ends up biting us in the backside.
If the club intends to invest in January (which I highly doubt) then I’d give McClaren a bit more time. But quite frankly, if he stays and we don’t get any reinforcements next month, I think we’ll go down.

At this day in age I’d say we have fallen big time. The everton team is a step ahead of us they’re a team battling mid table whilst trying to make their way up towards top 6 team we’re part of the relegation competitors who’s main aim is suvival and sadly we’ve lost that passionate team you see in the likes of Leicester city so revival is a much harder task.

You are the one who is trying to move the goalposts. You said one in 3 or 4 chances, no more no less, then decided to alter it once you realised what a ridiculous statement and benchmark that was.
Feel free to not engage with me, I won’t be losing any sleep, and certainly won t feel like I’m losing out on your input on football matters.

Stats guy huh?
1 shot on target, ok, that’s poor… I’ll agree, but, that doesn’t take away the fact that Mitro had 2 glorious chances. Does it? We did enough to win the game and so did they. The players did the best they could in a poor setup.

Comment #15Evertons team though has so much more quality than us. We need an English core of quality and passion. Look at Everton, they have several top quality players who could get in any top 10 side at least, coleman, Howard, jagielka, stones, McCarthy, Barkley, Lukaku

We’re not creating enough.
Should Mitro have scored that header,. Yes.
Do strikers miss sitters all the time. Yes.
But everyone usually forgets about that since teams often create a dozen other chances which they usually score from. We create maybe one or two real chances a game. Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don’t. But the bottom line is we’re not creating enough of them.

This IS us playing better, yet its still relegation form.
If you’re in denial and can’t see that we need a lot more than this to survive, let alone reach the heights of the target of a top ten finish.
If it’s a poor set up LM then the lads are playing handicapped like a horse carrying too much weight. Still tips the balance against us doesn’t it ?
If we have a decent set up and the players aren’t good enough then we are still going to struggle to get anything like the results we’ll need.

Yes, I agree… You do need to create more. But as a team when have we done that this season? We matched Everton in that second half and the bottom line is that we could have won with the chances we had. Could isn’t should but this is a decent Everton side

Comment #26Gut wrenching loss today points were there for the taking Wijnaldum header that was saved by Howard and Mitro’s header that went wide were tough..
We started off horribly couldn’t get ball from Everton and when we did tried to be very direct in counter and would lose it to quickly, it’s upsetting to watch when we have do not cherish possession and always work it out wide for crosses we never go right down the middle..
Really thought Elliot,Mbemba and Colo played well and gave it there all Jannmatt was poor and Dummett will always be poor cause what he does with ball is so below par..
Anita played well but Colback offers nothing w/ him never opens up or plays 1-2, Sissoko ok but passing is poor and obvious, Wijnaldum was ok below par really..
Perez I thought was awful and passing out of our own half was very poor, Mitro needs to start finishing his chances and our players need to start learning to give him ball on ground when back is to goal and work 1-2 with him..
McClaren I don’t get why we made 1 sub and so late especially knowing we have another game in 2 days the lads ran themselves into the ground today and will be tough battle vs WBA

Hold on, where did I say that this is enough to survive? Clearly, judging on where we are right now, signings are a must. My argument is that fans expect our team to just turn up and dominate against teams that are clearly better then us, in terms of quality anyway. If I’m not allowed to be proud of our team after today because we didn’t dominate Everton then that is ridiculous. We competed through the only way we can, hard work and determination. Not going to create alot but atleast they are trying, not like last season where we just turned over and we’re easy to beat.

the point is we are no longer an average team, we’re a below average team who battles amongst the relegation.
9 out of 10 people now see the premier league as 3 leagues. you’ve got the top 6 or above average teams such as arsenal, city and manure. You’ve then got the mid table battlers or as most would say your average premier league team such as everton, stoke or west ham. Finally it’s the relegation or below average teams such as scums villa and championship teams and that is the category team we ourselves belong to at this moment in time.
As below average team Watford, Leicester and bournmouth are all ones you’d be thinking should be way further down the league and performing worse than they are but teams like have one advantage over teams such as villa and ourselves and that advantage is passion plus low expectation, playing in the premier league was there aim and now they’ve got it they enjoy it as good as they can before relegation comes back. We and villa are both teams who’ve lost all that passion, we use to be mid tabling and battling top 6 but all that has gone and now we’re both in full disarray but with that comes a big loss of passion so each and every result is more like a demand than a hope.

Comment #29Don’t normally post on here but ffs we must be the only team in prem to play 4 in midfield without an on out an out winger. Sissoko was said to be next viera, viera was never a winger and gini wants to play no 10 behind striker why play them out of position. Think I’ll aply for the head coach job!!
