Newcastle Striker Options Reduced To This One Player

Newcastle’s second approach for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette was encouraged by his agents, but it has come to nothing over the last 72 hours.

The player has again told Newcastle he does not want to move anywhere this month as he tries to make the French squad for the Euro 2016 tournament in June.

Loic Remy – number one target now

And Newcastle are having trouble in persuading West Brom to sell their 22 year-old striker Saido Berahino for a fee up to £20M, with West Brom Chairman Jeremy Peace reported becoming greedy and wanting closer to £30M for Berahino.

So with options starting to run out for Newcastle, it looks like we are banking on trying to get Loic Remy to the club on loan with the London club expected to seal a loan deal for Corinthian and former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato tomorrow.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink will then allow Loic Remy to leave the club on loan for the rest of the season and Newcastle have already told Chelsea they want the striker on loan.

If the news is to be believed then Loic wants to come back to Newcastle after having such a successful loan spell in the 2013-2014 season – when he scored 14 goals in 26 Premier League appearances for us.

And today Crystal Palace signed former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer through the end of the season.

That means they are not interested in taking Loic Remy on loan which would seem to leave the door open for Newcastle.

Other options Newcastle would turn to if we cannot get Remy would be to shell out £7M for Swansea striker Bafe Gomis – a former target of ours, but Newcastle are not too enamored with that deal.

And it’s certainly a lot of money to pay out for a 30 year-old.

With the success of Andros Townsend being signed on Wednesday and very anxious to join the club, it’s very important that Newcastle now get Loic Remy in.

And if we can do that the four players signed this month – Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet, Andros Townsend  and Loic Remy for £30M would be a good transfer window for Newcastle.

We’d still like to see a left back brought in and Newcastle could still surprise us, but if we can get Loic Remy over the line then Steve McClaren should have an improved squad.

It would then be up to him to get the results – as well as having Newcastle put in good displays and control games.

Results will very quickly become the only measuring stick with just 15 games to play.

Wins are what we need to survive.

Andre Gray is the only one I’d look at seriously, and he can’t play for another club until next season. Blackman also couldn’t play, as he has only just joined Derby from Reading.

Judge is a left sided midfielder, we have just got Townsend for that role, Forestieri plays the same role as Gini mainly at Wednesday.

McCormack is at his level in my opinion, good in the Championship but not good enough to step up. Nobody seems willing to take a chance on Rhodes, which begs the question why – a possibility though. Rumours are Boro have lodged a bid for him of around £11million.

Can’t see Hernandez being available as Hull will not want to derail their promotion chase with such little time to replace him.

Has to be Jordan Rhodes, he has a proven scoring record everywhere and could be the perfect foil for Mitrovic which is the type of striker we are looking for.

The question is what is our formation going to be going forward. Rhodes big problem is that he cannot play as a main striker alone and with the premiere league over the last couple of years set up has been 4 3 3 or 4 5 1. those systems dont work for him. he is a 3 5 2 or 4 4 2 formation player and if we decide to play those formations now and forseable future then his my pick. If not they I will pass.

He is one of the best finisher inside the box in this country.

According to the French press Lacazette is the only striker left at his club so there is no way he will come and the way this football board operate I doubt they have enough time left to go for anyone else.

After missing out on Austin, Remy on loan should be the first priority. He doesn’t want to sign but he wants to play in the Euros so needs first team football which he will get from us. We know he scores Premiership goals so it’s no risk. Pay his wages, give him bonus per goal and look to get another striker, if not now, in the summer
