French newspaper L’Equipe are today reporting that current Premier League leaders Leicester City have put in a €10M (£7.5M) bid for Chelsea’s French international Loic Remy.
Chelsea are ready to close a loan deal today for Corinthians striker for the rest of the season, and that should allow Remy to go out on loan – so he can get regular games and have a chance of making the French squad for the Euro 2016 finals this summer.
Loic Remy – Leicester interested
Chelsea have had a number of inquiries from a number of clubs wanting Remy – with one of them being from Newcastle who want him on a loan deal.
Loic Remy is just one of the strikers Leicester City are after in this transfer window. in an effort to increase their chances of winning the Premier League.
If that happens in May, it will have been only 13 months after they were rock bottom of the league last April with 19 points from 29 games.
Amazing.
Leicester are also in for Sampdoria striker Eder, and are willing to bid £10M, so it’s unclear who their first choice is.
And it will also depend on what deal Chelsea want for Loic – a permanent deal or a loan deal, with TMW yesterday reporting Chelsea want to do the Leicester deal, but we don’t know how much truth there is in that.
Earlier this week there were reports Chelsea wanted £12M for their 29 year-old French striker, so the Leicester bid is well short of that.
But Leicester could provide Loic with an interesting option of playing for the Premier League Champions for a second successive season.
Leicester are 3 points clear at the top of the Premier League and of course Chelsea were the PL Champions last season.
Getting Loic Remy in on loan seems vital for Newcastle’s survival chances and if the reports are to be believed Remy wants to come to Newcastle.
But it’s always difficult to know exactly what the players really think and a lot of it is simply paper talk.
However in this case we hope the reports are true that Loic wants to return to Newcastle on loan.
He could be the man who saves us this season.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Remy wont sign a permanent deal with anyone while chelsea pay his wages. I still think he is out best bet on loan while we try and get out of this mess.

I agree, Remy is still in the bad books for twice rejecting us. However if he scores enough goals in 6 months to keep us up then I would be happy to take him on loan then look to a more longer term target in the summer.

Comment #4Also just heard about this apparent “arranged friendly”.
If this is true then Mcclaren deserves 10 times more abuse than what Pardew got. Total disregard towards that fixture and what it means to the fans.

Yep. He will never be a permanent option, but we should be taking advantage of his French National team ambitions. We wont be able to find a permanent option until we know which league we are in next season,so like you say, summer is when we look at that.

Comment #8Spuds looking to offer £18m for Berahino now they have £12m in the kitty from us for Townsend.
Chelsea want to sell Remy for £12m and Leicester reported to be interested -they wouldn’t sell Vardy would they ?
Just seems the closer we get to the Transfer deadline the more ridiculous the deals become.

Comment #10I posted a link to this “friendly” a cpl days ago as I couldn’t beleive it was true.
I can sorta see the reasoning behind it but I’d me more worried about injuries etc than the little bit of match fitness for the players.
If it’s all the fringe players us one or two first teamers then fine, full starting eleven is to big a risk to take IMO.

There was a point in his career that he was more famous for dating glamour models than he was as a footballer. Which part of his nufc career was that helping.
I was once out with mclenn for a meal with our partners, we ended up in the bio section in baja on the quayside, me and my lass ended up speaking to nobby and his wife for most of the night, around 11:30 dyer cort saylor and loads of hangers on came in, never mixed with the senior players collected about 7-8 really pretty girls then went to corts apartment up next to the keep, yeh, I’m sure none of this has anything to do with his priorities or fitness problems.
I’m not questioning his loyalty to the club, I like him playing for us, and I also think he could have been a great CB, brave as hell, but celebrity girlfriends got in the way

Comment #19Strange call at best, however, i am not sure it would be played with any bad blood, simply because it is to help both sides stay match fit, and also there is no crowd beying for blood (lets be honest, the fans are a big reason as to why derby matches boil over). These are pro-players who are not playing for points or a cup and are trying to put themselves in the right condition to fight relegation.
Having said all that, i am not saying it was necesarily a good idea, but i do see why it might have been arranged.

Comment #21The obsession with midfielders and forwards shows this is a club in denial. Great clubs defend on the halfway line with tall paces defenders who’s job it is to stop the other team scoring. Newcastle backline is made up of fullback who think they are wingers who go awall and a captain so slow he dare not venture anywhere near the halfway line. FACT newcastle need to score 3 goals per game to get a draw.

Comment #23I have noticed over the last week or so with Townsend link that a lot of people have been saying ”where would he fit in?” ”you wouldnt drop Perez”. And now that it’s pretty much a done deal, people are posting their teams and they have all dropped Perez for Townsend…. if that is to happen, is that not sending bad signals to Perez? He has produced more than Sissoko this season. Why not drop Sissoko for Townsend?

Jan 27, 2016 at 9:26 AM
Comment #24Dic – purely because Townsend will bring a balance to the team with Sissoko on the right and Townsend on the left. Townsend has been told he will be on the left and IMO id prefer to keep sissoko on the pitch

No I don’t think it sends bad signals to Perez, I don’t think he sees his elf as a LW player, but he is doing a job for the team.
Perez for me is a CF, he needs games in that position, he is a sharp player with an eye for goal, playing him out of position is not good for him or the team.

Comment #27Like Tom says, it’s more about balanc.
I like that in this transfer window we have added a more forward thinking MF, and that we now have options for that forward thinking MF, Gini we be more free in the AMC role, and we have real pace on both wings, which should spread opposition defences a bit more wider creating more space ( in an ideal world that is ).

Our captain has put in some great performances this season. Along with some poor ones but I would say he has more good days than bad days.
That said I don’t think he should be captain. To be honest , right now id give it to Gini or Shelvy

Comment #29I doubt Remy would want to go to Leics and play second fiddle to Vardy. Leics are looking at signing someone to ease the burden on Vardy and I’m pretty sure Remy would rather warm Chelsea’s bench than Leicester City’s

Comment #30SM is rapidly justifying the wally tag more by the day. A”friendly” v sunderland. One day he may have a good idea.
We’ve blown a stack on AT, but still no sign of the speedy goal scorer, CB or LB. Lacazette stupid money and doesn’t want to come. Ditto berahino and remy looking unlikely.
The lack of forward planning by the teaboy, pensioner and failed manager are driving this convoy to the championship from where we may never return for many years.
Yes ash finally splashed the cash but giving nearly 100M to the 3 stooges makes him just as culpable.

Comment #31If Remy does come don’t expect the same player we had last time, he’s spent the last two years bench warming, he’s had so little first team action it could take a few games just to see an improvement, same for Townsend.

I’d be shocked if Saylor got another contract (sort of) I saw his games played vs games NUFC have played and it’s shocking.
If Ashley doesn’t like paying wages for people who sit on the bench I can’t see him being saylors biggest fan.

Comment #36I think Remy would score more goals right here right now than Mitrovic who has obviously lost his mojo. I don’t think it would take Remy any time at all to get going but all irrelevant anyway…he ain’t coming back up north again…he loves London life too much and will go to a club within reach of London so his domestic arrangements don’t have to change for sure.

Comment #38Unless a very good defensive signing comes out of the blue before the end of window it will show what bunch of idiots we have running this club.
I know Ashley likes a gamble, we’ve all seen him gamble with the future of the club before like last season but he obviously doesn’t learn and loves the ‘high’ gambling with big stakes gives him.
He’s obviously got targets like Jetro lined up but rather than pay very little now he’s happy to gamble we’ll stay up and pay less in 6 months time but with what’s at stake why gamble to this extent???
I don’t think we needed Townsend to be honest…we’ve made quite a few good chances in the last 5 games but just haven’t converted them as well as let in pathetic goals at the other end…so surely the short term January window strategy should have been a striker at any cost and a good centre halve at any cost once we secured Shelvey early on in the window.

Comment #40we may as well leave that decision as to whether to offer him another deal til the summer depending on which division we’ll be in because let’s face it…based on his injury history which other premiership team would offer him a deal anyway.
His level is the championship.
