Rafa Benitez wants to bring in five or six new players this summer and according to his comments in the Chronicle last week, things appear to be very positive on that front.
The Premier League confirmed yesterday the retained list of every Premier League club of last season – and it listed Newcastle’s 42-man squad.
Newcastle released Steven Taylor and while Remy Cabella is still on the list he will be sold on July 1st to Marseille for around £6.3M.
Remy Cabella – will sign for Marseille
Here is the 42 man list in full with those in bold the ones we think we need to unload this summer:
Aarons, Rolando
Ameobi, Samuel
Anita, Vurnon San Benito
Armstrong, Adam James
Barlaser, Daniel Tan
Bigirimana, Gael
Cabella, Remy – will be sold to Marseille
Cisse, Papiss Demba
Colback, Jack Raymond
Coloccini, Fabricio
Darlow, Karl
De Jong, Siem
Dummett, Paul
Elliot, Robert
Gillesphey, Macauley (Offer)
Gilliead, Alex Nicholas
Good, Curtis
Gouffran, Yoan
Gutierrez, Ayoze Perez
Haidara, Massadio
Heardman, Tom (Offer)
Janmaat, Daryl
Krul, Timothy Michael
Lascelles, Jamaal
Mbabu, Melingo Kevin (Extended)
Mbemba, Chancel Mangulu
Mitrovic, Aleksander
Riviere, Emmanuel
Roberts, Callum
Saivet, Henri
Satka, Lubomir
Shelvey, Jonjo
Sissoko, Moussa
Smith, Liam Phillip (Offer)
Sterry, Jamie Michael
Thauvin, Florian
Tiote, Cheik Ismael
Toney, Ivan Benjamin Elijah
Townsend, Andros
Vuckic, Haris
Wijnaldum, Georginio
Woodman, Frederick John
So Sammy Ameobi, Gael Bigirimana, Remy Cabella, Papiss Cisse, Fabricio Coloccini, Yoan Gouffran, Emmanuel Riviere, Henri Saivet and Haris Vuckic have no future at Newcastle and should be unloaded this summer – either sold or sent on loan.
New signing Saivet seems to have no future at Newcastle, simply because Benitez didn’t play him at all and he was hardly even on the bench.
We have a feeling Rafa will want to keep Cheick Tote maybe for a couple of years and the manager will be able to take a look at 23 year-old defender Curtis Good – who is finally fit again after being injured back in March of 2014 playing his first ever game for Australia
Rafa will also want to take a look at Florian Thauvin in pre-season, before deciding on the Frenchman’s future.
The moving out of those nine players will help with the wage bill too – and as we said we expect five or six players to be brought in by Rafa this summer.
Who do you think should leave the club this summer?
Comments welcome.

Comment #41An interesting if not technically good game. A red card was on the books from pretty early though and now Albania will want to even things up no doubt. Cana is an ex mackem, whoever asked. I expect a scrappy second half, with more niggly bits.

Comment #47expat go for 2 -1 – Rashford to come on and score the winner.
Not much invention in midfield – maybe Alli /fitting the team around Rooney -not good.

Comment #48Expat, aye, nothing like the French game is it? As long as it stays just one, Albania have a punchers chance, but if Switzerland score again it’s curtains i reckon.

Comment #50Looks a fairly open tournament this year with a few decent teams but none really outstanding. Anyone of half a dozen could win it.

Comment #52Mistake building the team around Rooney. They should do that with Ali and really push Sterling on.
Vardy would be a very good impact option

Comment #58You might understand Hodgson building a team around Rooney if he had excelled in a tournament situation in the past. Ffs, he doesn’t even know what his position is any more. There’s better strikers and better midfielders, but Roy Boy is determined to fit him in somewhere, which is definitely worrying.

Comment #61A list of people you want out is a waste of time.
If someone has a contract you can’t get them out unless they want to go.
The only way to manage footballers on big money is to stay positive with them all.
Then wait for opportunities to get them out. If a contract ends or an offer comes in.
I think RB will appreciate this fully.

With the youth of the squad, it might have been wise for Roy to use this tournament grooming the younger players in his squad in readiness for the russian world cup

Comment #64Expat, aye, this obsession with Rooney is puzzling. Don’t know how true it is but i heard Vardy was out and Rooney playing up front. Surely the striker at manure is Rashford, not Rooney? Ijust don’t get it myself.

Comment #72Steven Fletcher and Gaston Ramirez are available. I think they’d be great signings. Sign them with Abeid, Baines and that Israelian bloke and then we’d slash the league.

Comment #76Welshie, are you still there? Come on then marra, what’s your lads going to do in this first match? Play it cautious and not get beat, or go for it from the off? You’ve got to attack really, it’s where your strength is innit?
