News on the Newcastle web-site that the Newcastle United squad have just arrived in Ireland for their week-long training camp in County Kildare.
Newcastle will play their first friendly of the summer in Dublin next Saturday against Bohemian.
Newcastle players arriving in Ireland tonight
Here’s some of what has just been put on the Newcastle web-site:
Manager Rafa Benitez has named a 26-man party for the County Kildare-based camp, which will conclude with a friendly against Bohemian on Saturday, 16th July (2;00pm kick-off).
Summer signings Jesus Gamez, Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and Matz Sels are all included in the travelling squad, while youngsters Adam Armstrong, Rolando Aarons, Kevin Mbabu, Jamie Sterry and Paul Woolston are also involved.
Tim Krul, Massadio Haidara and Emmanuel Riviere are not on the tour as they all work their way back to fitness on Tyneside following injuries.
Here is the Newcastle United squad:
Rolando Aarons, Vurnon Anita, Adam Armstrong, Jack Colback, Karl Darlow, Siem de Jong, Paul Dummett, Rob Elliot, Jesus Gamez, Dwight Gayle, Yoan Gouffran, Daryl Janmaat, Jamaal Lascelles, Kevin Mbabu, Chancel Mbemba, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez, Matt Ritchie, Henri Saivet, Matz Sels, Jonjo Shelvey, Jamie Sterry, Florian Thauvin, Cheick Tiote, Georginio Wijnaldum, Paul Woolston
Florian Thauvin and Adam Armstrong are in the squad and it’s a little strange that Adam is in the squad since we though he wasn’t yet fully fit.
But neither is Rob Elliot so they are being taken along to bond with the squad for the team spirit.
Wonder if that means that Tim Krul, Massadio Haidara and Emmanuel Riviere will be sold?
But in any case, that’s a strong squad Rafa has taken to County Kildare for a training and fitness camp and also to do some bonding of the players to build up that all important team spirit.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Springy, the problem is, they’re very good players and i’d keep them if possible. Lots of players have a tough first season in England and then come good. If they don’t give 100% nobody will want them next season, so I think if they stay they will try. This is why Rafa is gaffer though mate. Tough decisions and hard negotiations! 😉

Comment #42Bobby……. Can you imagine the smug look on fat SAMs face if he got the England job. He’d be so up his own arse. He once said he should be managing one of the top clubs like Real Madrid . He’s the most arrogant egotistical tosser in football.
We’d be better off with Bruce Forsyth and Jim Bowen as assistant. Brucie could say,”Good game, good game.” and Jim Bowen could say, “Have a look at what you could have won.”

Comment #46He’s being considered because Fergies bum chum David Gill is on the panel that searches for the next boss, and Fergie is beating the fat Sam drum loudly.

Given that Sissoko was booed off when subbed at around 70 minutes in McClaren’s last game v Bournemouth he managed to turn things round under Benitez.
“Rafa-ologists” expected Benítez swiftly to jettison Sissoko. Instead the new manager dropped the £12m Jonjo Shelvey, while shifting the Frenchman to No10 and making him captain.
“Moussa helps me a lot, the French players follow him,” said the Spaniard, who was repaid by a renascent attacking midfield leader as Newcastle ended last season on a five-game unbeaten run
Along the way the pair formed a strong bond, with the former echoing Deschamps in praising his “intelligence” and Sissoko’s four-year-old son even being allowed to steal the manager’s dugout seat on occasion.
Since then Deschamps’ longstanding faith has been similarly rewarded by his protege’s impressive interpretation of a right-sided role which maximises Paul Pogba’s talents while potentially disrupting Benítez’s plans. “I’m in contact with Moussa,” said Benítez, defiantly. “Hopefully he’ll help France win and then help Newcastle. We don’t have to sell anyone we don’t want to sell. If someone makes a big offer we’ll analyse it but, for now, we’ll say no to everyone.”
It’s significant that Benitez played Moussa in his preferred position. If he buys into Rafa’s programme going forward then he could play a key role and would enhance his value going forward.

I was wondering whether Rafa wanted Adam A around for pre season rather than release him for an England tournament. Maybe his injury was exaggerated somewhat.

transfer chase for Liverpool and Everton target Georginio Wijnaldum of Newcastle
Spurs are confident of landing the goal-scoring midfielder as they have many players they can offer the relegated Geordies in exchange PLUS: Janmaat eyed
Also in the paper wanted to do deal with Liverpool for Gini, he wanted Jordan Ibe.
So then gents who would you like from Spurs, Deli Ali, Kane.
