It’s going to be very interesting to see what the Newcastle squad is like come September, once the summer transfer window is closed.
Newcastle have already brought in five players and let seven players leave the club and the club are expecting some offers coming in for some of their star players like Moussa Sissoko, Gini Wijnaldum, Daryl Janmaat and Tim Krul.
Rafa Benitez and his Spanish coaches in consultation
Other players like Yoan Gouffran, Manu Riviere, Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic seem surplus to requirements and not good enough and only Yoan was chosen to go with the squad to Ireland.
Whether Newcastle will sell their top players will depend on the size of the offer and Newcastle’s ability to replace the player.
But it could be that Newcastle could get some good business done that could even strengthen the squad if we do sell one or two of the stars for big money.
Rafa talked about transfers after the training finished yesterday afternoon where the squad is staying at the 4 star Carton House Spa yesterday in Maynooth, County Kildare:
“We’re still working very hard behind the scenes to bring in some players.” “Now we are in a situation where we are waiting, and the market is starting to move.”
“It seems some clubs have money and we will receive offers for players and analyse each one carefully and do what is best for the club.”
“We want to add more players. Maybe some players will leave. We will decide.”
“There is a lot of speculation about names, but we are trying to get balance.” “We need a center-back – that is obvious.”
“But it’s too soon, and Lee Charnley is controlling the business. We are in contact every day, and hopefully we can do something in a few days.”
“We are working very hard in Ireland and I am really pleased with the facilities,” “The players have trained very well, and the team spirit is good.”
“The fans here have also been fantastic, so we have no problems.” “The weather is fine, and some people might complain about the rain, but it is good for us.”
“Everything is like we wanted it to be, and it has gone well.”
Newcastle’s pursuit of Grant Hanley has been dragging on for too long now and the news is that Norwich City have entered the chase for the Blackburn center-back.
But if the local press is to be believed this morning Newcastle are now very close to agreeing a deal for the 24 year-old Scottish International, although there seems to have been little movement over the past three or four days.
Newcastle will finish off their week of training this afternoon at 2:00 pm with the first preseason friendly against Bohemian at Dalymount Park.
It will be very interesting to see what team Rafa will start.
Any ideas?

Comment #1I think the big thing is any deal for Pogba.
The 100 Million it puts into the transfer system will kick off other deals.
Sell him for 100 buy Sissoko to replace for 35.
Simples for somebody.

Comment #3Bohemian…wrong again ed. Sick as a pig not to be there. I had plans to hit dublin last night and spot a few Mags fans and have a pint or two. BTW Carton house is really a 5 star. Lovely place used by the irish rugby team and other notables all the time.

Actually, Increase Sissoko price to £50m considering Kante went for 32 and Pogba is valued at 100

Comment #8Expat that would be nice.
Kante didn’t even get a game for France so yeh that’s right.
On that basis Sissoko is worth more.
Perhaps not 50 though.
I would take 45.
