Grant Hanley has talked today in the match program about how great it will be to play at St. James’ Park in front of Newcastle’s legendary fans.
Well, he will get the chance today against SBV Vitesse because Chancel Mbemba has picked up a slight ankle injury in training and is being rested as a precaution, so Grant will be partnering captain Jamaal Lascelles at the back.
Chancel is expected to be fit for the first game of the season next Friday night at Craven Cottage.
Grant Hanley – in Scotland’s colors
This is what Grant has said today:
“I can’t wait to play there as a home player.”
“I knew Newcastle was a massive club but when I go there to sign I went to the stadium and I really had to pinch myself.” “It was surreal.”
“It’s not every day you get a chance to come to play for a club like this in front of these fans, who everybody knows just how passionate they are.”
“It really took a while to sink in and I am really looking forward to it now.” “I have spent the first week trying to settle in, get into training and get to know the lads.”
“But to finally get out there on the pitch was brilliant.”
“Coming off the bench is always tough, especially the first 10 minutes, but once you get a second wind you are normally all right.”
Grant is not exactly match fit so it will be interesting how he plays today and for how long, but we’d be surprised if he plays the full game.
Here’s the St. James’ Park stadium today – and the sun is now out.

Comment #2Our stadium is magnificent, I just wish we could extend the Gallowgate as was once planned. To have the stadium complete would make it unbelievable.
Keep hearing snippets that it can still be extended, Ash has planned a casino and shopping centre – but this won’t prevent further development.
One day it might be complete, hope I get to see it.
Back to footy….I am gutted Aarons is not starting. Hope this lad can stay injury free this season

There was one link which was posted today and yesterday, but there is no indication that it actually works (pressing play bring a pop up screen and nothing changes on the video player itself) and that it is actually the link to our game.
Any others?

TODAYS MATCH.
This link should work for today’s match (thanks to Jib for posting the link yesterday):
http://eredivisie-stream.net/live/vitesse-live-stream/channel-1/
I tested it yesterday evening during an Everton friendly and it worked very well and was HD quality. At first you are asked if you want to watch the match … hit the cancel button otherwise you get sent to a registration page – I found you don’t need to register to view the game. You get invited to register elsewhere but I ignored the request and closed the pop-up, then scrolled down to the bottom of the page to view the game. Initially a small dialog box appears over the viewing window but you can let it time out (a few seconds) or close it and view the match. Oh, and there was a radio commentary elsewhere on the page for those who just want to listen.
I hope this helpful. I hope it works today!

Comment #10How can you have links to the game when it’s not being shown on any tv channel? As already said you could get a periscope link if someone in the crowd was kind enough to film it.

Comment #13expat – certainly does not look threatening at all – don’t think it will put the fear into any defences.

However when you include the likes of Mitrovic Aarons De Jong and hopefully a couple if pacy goalscoring attackers, we should be ok
