It’s likely that Newcastle will be able to sign Chelsea’s 24 year-old winger Christian Atsu today on loan for the season with an option to buy him at the end of the season.
We have also been in talks with West Brom on bringing in Callum McManaman and that deal could also happen for £4.75M, but it’s less certain than Atsu coming in.
And signing McManaman could be dependent on what happens with Moussa Sissoko, who Everton are supposed to be keen on signing today – but the Merseyside club are hardly the Champions League club he wants to join.
24 year-old Chelsea winger Christian Atsu
And Moussa has been busy burning his bridges at Newcastle all summer.
The conventional wisdom is that you shouldn’t do that when you leave somewhere – but Moussa has been doing that while still at Newcastle.
And that article in GOAL yesterday about Rafa Benitez being interested in bringing Liverpool’s Serbian winger Lazar Markovic to Newcastle seems to have been a made-up story – isn’t that strange.
As far as who will be leaving Newcastle today, Cheick Tiote has been negotiating with Greek powerhouse Olympiacos after his failure to join Galatasaray.
And there’s a decent possibility that deal will go through and Cheick will leave Newcastle after six years on Tyneside, although news coming through as I write this that deal may have collapsed!
Emmanuel Riviere should be joining CA Osasuna in Spain, but we’re not sure whether that will be a permanent deal or a loan deal to see out the final year of his contract at Newcastle.
It would be in Newcastle’s best interests to make it a permanent deal so we at least get a fee for him and recuperate some of that £6M we paid Monaco for him two years ago.
There were also some rumors last night, after Adam Armstrong’s loan move to Barnsley through January was announced, that young right back Jamie Sterry could be moving to Coventry City on loan – where Adam spent a successful loan spell last season.
It was Lee Ryder who reported the possible loan move for Jamie.

Now that Newcastle have DeAndre Yedlin and Jesus Gamez fighting for the right back spot – and also Chancel Mbemba can play there too – better for Jamie Sterry to get some first team games every week.
That loan deal for Jamie will probably be through January.
And then we have players like Haris Vuckic and Sammy Ameobi who have no future at Newcastle and the bets we can hope for us probably some loan deal for them – but no reports of anything close.
We expect at least two players to come in and Tiote, Riviere and Sterry to leave before 11:00 pm tonight.
And then there’s Moussa Sissoko, but who knows?
Here’s where we stand right now with 16 players having left the club and 11 having been brought in and we are still in the black.

I agree that sissoko is preferable to Bananaman, but only if he gets his head down for us. Its going to be a strange situation if he stays. Wonder if Rafa will ask yhe fans not to boo et.c

Comment #3Palace are favourites to land Wiltshire, if they get Sissoko as well then they will have some really top class players at there disposal seeing as they have already signed Townsend, Remy and Benteke, along with Cabaye and one or two others who they already had they should do quite well this season, some talent in that squad.

They’ll still only finish lower mid table. All those quality players playing yawn-ball seems a bit of a waste.

Comment #7Could we perhaps loan Le Sulk to the Makems.
They need players and he is exactly the sort they need to help secure their relegation?

We can’t complain about Charnley this summer when we look at all the signings which we have made and also look at the dead wood which we have got rid of.

Comment #15Surely we did not give £3mill for Daryl Murphy, who gives £3 mill for a almost 34 year old decent championship striker???
