Newcastle Likely To Lose In-Form Midfielder In January

Yoan Gouffran is in the final year of his four year contract at Newcastle and if a suitable offer had come in for him that suited both Yoan and Newcastle in the summer, he would have left the club at that time.

Yoan has since played his best football at Newcastle under new manager Rafa Benitez and the Frenchman works his socks off for the team and has scored 3 great goals for us this season.

The image he now has with the fans has changed dramatically since Rafa arrived and the manager has been able to get the very best out of the 30 year-old.

Yoan Gouffran with Rafa Benitez

Lille were interested in signing Gouffran last January but nothing came of that, but they have remained interested in the player who will be available for a nominal fee at the turn of the year.

There’s news in the Northern Echo today that Lille are now interested in signing the Frenchman in January and it could be that Yoan will leave Newcastle then.

The news is that Lille are willing to offer Gouffran a two and a half year deal.

Gouffran has been a regular starter under Rafa Benitez this season, but with Newcastle looking to be a Premier League club next season we don’t think Rafa will offer Yoan a new deal.

Rafa will want to sign some top players this summer and maybe in January – to further improve the Newcastle squad.

It could be that Rafa will look at what Newcastle’s situation is in January and then decide whether to let the Frenchman leave.

If he did leave we could see Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu starting on the wings for Newcastle – and maybe Atsu will sign on full time at the club in January?

Yoan will also be a free agent in the summer and he could get a very good deal for himself when he would cost nothing in the transfer market.

Rafa does try to look after the interests of the player and it could be left to Yoan – if he wants to accept the Lille offer.

But as we said he could get some excellent offers in the summer as a free agent, especially given he’s a player who has been playing really well for us this season.

We’re sure a number of top Championship clubs would be only too interested in signing him this summer.

It would also depend on his personal situation and whether he wants to return to France to play his football.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    expat,
The blog has always had spats between posters going back to angry fan and his detractors, it never stopped hundreds of posts, I’ve had hundreds of spats with pro Ashley bloggers, that never stopped over a thousand posts on a matchday thread. The rot started when the blog was plagued by that troll bob, bill, ted around the time jeff from benwell first appeared in that guise and targeted half a dozen anti Ashley posters.

No Jib it wasn’t the same boring posters, there was loads of different posters until jeff from benwell targeted the ones he disliked most got them labelled in to a group and now we have a situation where there are only a couple of dozen posters with little to talk about.

To judge the quality or otherwise, of the blog, by the number of posts on it at a given time is a flawed measure. Many a time I have scrolled through reams of unnecessarily verbose crud to get to a bit of football craic…
It’s not the size, it’s what you do with it that counts.

Maybe so but at times, people take it too seriously and when I see complaints about bullying etc, it reminds me when I used to protect softies at school from the 12 year old hardmen.

Martoon……. I also have no objection to people supporting a second team and have no problem with Welshie. I like his banter and I’m sure he doesn’t mind taking a bit of stick, he has previously said so.

I don’t know what the rules are now regarding jokes though. I think our Queen Bee has gone on strike. She wants more honey and shorter working flowers. She’s frantically mustering her remaining drones so they can have a good sting along.

Cheers both, happy to help to entertain my fellow bloggers, with some jokes even though some are bad, sorry to ever thought of them.

Newcastle will need to sign a Townsend quality winger, along with Atsu presumably, to compete with Ritchie. Both Gouffran and Aarons have pros and cons, but either would have decent claims to be a worthwhile fourth choice in a deep and balanced squad first season back in the top flight. If Aarons can’t force his way back in to the frame this season, it might well be Gouffran that gets the nod and a contract extension.

So, as it stands…Spuds paid 30 million quid for a player who cant score goals, doesnt make goals, wont defend and lacks much effort.

I wonder what Pocchetino sees in this fellow. Maybe a back up to Lloris?

Dan Bell: Tonight shows why Newcastle fans don’t rate Sissoko. A waste of £30 million.

Aidan: Why are people surprised with Sissoko, there is a reason we laughed when Spurs gave us 30 million for him.

He’s a reliable pro, with two decent years left in his legs, who’s now well schooled in the Benitez way. I certainly can’t see him starting next season, but as a fourth choice, in a squad with adequate quality and cover he must be in the running on current form.

You’d expect 3 to 4 high quality additions, but not wholesale changes to what looks a quite capable group. Gouffran suffered as much as anyone from Newcastle’s past reluctance to put together a proper squad. In one, he still has something to offer I think. It will depend on who else they can get, but Gouffran wouldn’t be a dud option.
