Newcastle Likely To Lose In-Form Midfielder In January

Yoan Gouffran is in the final year of his four year contract at Newcastle and if a suitable offer had come in for him that suited both Yoan and Newcastle in the summer, he would have left the club at that time.

Yoan has since played his best football at Newcastle under new manager Rafa Benitez and the Frenchman works his socks off for the team and has scored 3 great goals for us this season.

The image he now has with the fans has changed dramatically since Rafa arrived and the manager has been able to get the very best out of the 30 year-old.

Yoan Gouffran with Rafa Benitez

Lille were interested in signing Gouffran last January but nothing came of that, but they have remained interested in the player who will be available for a nominal fee at the turn of the year.

There’s news in the Northern Echo today that Lille are now interested in signing the Frenchman in January and it could be that Yoan will leave Newcastle then.

The news is that Lille are willing to offer Gouffran a two and a half year deal.

Gouffran has been a regular starter under Rafa Benitez this season, but with Newcastle looking to be a Premier League club next season we don’t think Rafa will offer Yoan a new deal.

Rafa will want to sign some top players this summer and maybe in January – to further improve the Newcastle squad.

It could be that Rafa will look at what Newcastle’s situation is in January and then decide whether to let the Frenchman leave.

If he did leave we could see Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu starting on the wings for Newcastle – and maybe Atsu will sign on full time at the club in January?

Yoan will also be a free agent in the summer and he could get a very good deal for himself when he would cost nothing in the transfer market.

Rafa does try to look after the interests of the player and it could be left to Yoan – if he wants to accept the Lille offer.

But as we said he could get some excellent offers in the summer as a free agent, especially given he’s a player who has been playing really well for us this season.

We’re sure a number of top Championship clubs would be only too interested in signing him this summer.

It would also depend on his personal situation and whether he wants to return to France to play his football.

What do you think?

The blog is choking because out of 80 comments I’d say 8 are solidly related to nufc.

And this is one of them- give Goofy another year contract, sell him when we get promoted.

Haha Sammy is still ours mate, Newcastle without an Ameobi isnt worth thinking about!

Has Janmaat not played much though? Last lot of highlights I watched of Watford he was bombing down the wing looking good…well the lot of them are struggling then

Gini started relatively well but hes been on the bench last few times Ive seen their line up Lallana Henderson and Can seem to be their main midfield

Who on earth’s pushing the Gouffan-Lille story? It’s madness to even contemplate that Rafa’d be daft enough to sell him for coppers in January and lose a valuable squad player for the second half of the season.

It’d make more sense to retain Goofy until the summer – without jeopardising his opportunities elsewhere.

The only way it would make sense to sell The Gouff is if they had his PL replacement lined up and was prepared to join in January, even then why risk it.

Well Spurs Champions ?eague journey looks over.
And just how many minutes of that has Sissoko played in ?
Bet he wished he’d joined his favourite club Arsenal who could win both the League and The Champions League.
Still he can look forward to playing at SJ next season ,can’t he

On Ameobi….I actually saw him score an absolute cracker for Bolton the other week.

On Janmaat….not sure what happened to him but I have a feeling the Watford coach prefers a back 3 which might put Janmaats place in jeopardy.

On Wijnaldum…..i think klopp plays him in a more defensive role which doesnt suit his style.

    On Townsend……Pardeweddddddddd

    On Sissoko……Lolololololol

Grace isnt always greener boys……but we dont miss you.

the only reason sissoko will be on the team bus for a return to us will be if the sat nav is broken so he can give directions

On reflection – Gouffran’s value as a grafting midfield sub to bring on to see out an already won game is worth more than any paltry fee we would get. Plus he’s always a goal threat at any time.

Spurs playing at Wembley because their ground is under reconstruction and can only hold some thirty odd thousand at the moment.
In other words it’s about money.

Gouff’s an integral member of the team. It would be complete madness to sell him in January.

Moussa Sissoko catching plenty of criticism from Spurs fans inside Wembley tonight – this was the Newcastle Sissoko not the France Sissoko.

    Re: Janmaat
He injured a shoulder in mid September and missed all matches until this past weekend when he returned as a reserve and entered the match in 2nd half. Prior to the injury he was playing decently and starting.

“Gayle was training but we have to be cautious with him. We will see in two or three days.

“We have some time and we will see how he feels. At the moment he is training and improving little by little.”

    Serious implications for Rafa Bingo!
