Jonjo Shelvey Charged By FA

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association and it’s for  an incident which occurred in the closing stages of Newcastle’s Championship game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, September 17.

That’s the game we surprisingly lost 2-0 at St. James’ Park and it seems odd that the charge has only been brought now – about seven weeks after the alleged incident.

Jonjo Shelvey – charged with misconduct

A club statement was issued on the Newcastle web-site:

“It is alleged that in or around the 87th minute of the fixture, he used abusive and/or insulting words towards a Wolves player.”

“It is further alleged that this breach of Rule E3(1) is an “Aggravated Breach” as defined in Rule E3(2), as it included reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or nationality.”

“The player has until November 16 to respond to the charge.”

We don’t know much about the alleged incident other the in the club statement.

Very strange! Can’t imagine why there’d be such a delay. No doubt we will find out after the media and press have wrung every last bit of mileage out of it

Indeed strange one after 7 weeks
Could a player be charged with misconduct if they made references to Shelvey’s lack of Hair???

Hmmmm, I’m sure there would have been a number of cameras, doesn’t take a genius to lip read.

The F.A. bring charges after 7 weeks and give the club a week to respond !
I think the F.A. may have Ashley’s lawyers jumping all over them.

Jib I don’t think it needs more than a week to say ” I said it” or deny it but a two month delay does seem strange, as this ever happened before?
