Rafa has just named his side for the EFL Cup quarter-final game at the KCOM Stadium tonight against Hull City and both Matz Sels and Achraf Lazzar are in the starting line-up – as well as Dwight Gayle.
Here is the team that Rafa will start tonight as just released on the Newcastle United Twitter account.
TEAM NEWS: Here is how Newcastle United will line up against @HullCity this evening. #NUFC pic.twitter.com/EedpUavHSD

So there’s a surprise there with Achraf Lazaar getting a start tonight at left-back as well as goalkeeper Matz Sels in the side.
It looks like that’s seven changes from Saturday’s starting line-up and Ciaran Clark is the only defender starting tonight who started on Saturday!
And Cheick Tiote and Daryl Murphy are on the bench.
Here’s the manager talking about the game tonight:
“At this stage of the competition, there were a lot of Premier League sides so it was always likely to be a difficult tie.”
“We have confidence, because we are doing well, but we have a lot of respect for Hull because they are a Premier League team and we will play away from home.”
“So we will approach the game with hope that we can do well – but also knowing that it will be a hard game against a side from a higher league.”
Three quarters of our fans in the poll expect us to win this game tonight.
It would be great to get through to the last four tonight.

Comment #41Last time we played Liverpool in a final I got tickets being in the army. Our CO was a mag so he gave me one. Bad memories of that day. Whoever we play we might be lucky, with important PL games following the semi’s.

Comment #42That’s a very strong team, nearly our first 11.
Hull have gone for it too by the looks of theirs.
Gonna be a tough game this and if we don’t click from the start then we’ll suffer imo.
Hopefully we come out the traps sharpish and make a good fist of it.

Comment #44Nobody gets it 100% right. So far, I’m seeing Sels as a mistake; others to be seen.

Comment #48when darlow first started for us, i thought wow, this kid is useless, but the fans gave him a chance, and now id put him as my no1, Krul had been pardewed but will come back, but by then Darlow will be a mile better too.
give the kid a chance, its a new country and league

Comment #51I haven’t been impressed with Lazaar. Defending or going forward. And he’s not played much. Will be interesting.

Comment #57Hoping Rafa doesn’t hedge his bets three times this week and come away with nothing. I would have felt more confident with Dummett back in the side after Saturday, and Mitro on the bench for sure. Got a feeling this will go to extra-time and beyond.
Just to clarify, I wasn’t condoning Bristow’s views earlier. He’s obviously a prat, but the fact he’s been cited to the police for committing a hate crime is absurd, and a lot more scary than the latest paedophile panic.

Passes fro maximum damage at the right times now. Knows precisely where to put them.

Comment #69These aerial crosses might need a rethink mind. Two big lumps like Dawson and Maguire are fairly comfortable handling those.

Comment #70Even Stevens so far – Hull better than our usual opposition without a doubt.
They are not getting a hold of Shelvey at all.
Mbokani is a pretty crap player – strong and can head a ball – and that’s about it.

Rather Hull never left the Championship, especially given they’ve got pretty much the exact same personnel.

Comment #77This is one of the most one-sided games I have seen this season. It’s the team from the Championship who are doing all the running. If there is one positive for Hull boss Mike Phelan it is that there is no height up front for Newcastle.
