Kevin Nolan was one of the drivers of Newcastle’s last promotion drive and although he wasn’t the captain at the time his leadership drove Newcastle forward seven years ago and he ended up Player of the Season in the Championship.
Kevin was on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT yesterday and thinks it will be tough game tomorrow at Burton Albion.
We agree with that with the wily Nigel Clough an underrated manager.

This is what Kevin said on the show:
“They’re expected to win but I think it’s a much tougher job going to Burton because of the way Nigel Clough sets up and he knows the league.”
“They don’t give anything away, so it’s a much tougher job going to Burton at the weekend.”
“I think Brighton will push them all the way. Chris Hughton’s been there before.”
“I was with Chris when we won the league a few years ago.”
“But the thing is Rafa Benitez has got the buzz back at Newcastle.”
The Newcastle side back in 2009-2010 finished with 102 points when winning the Championship with 30 wins and only four defeats.
We will do very well this season if we can match that points total.
Newcastle have already lost one more game than we lost under Chris Hughton, but if we don’t lose we usually win – with only one draw so far in the league this season in our 21 games.
Newcastle have 15 wins in those games and if we can keep that win rate up of over 71% – we’ll get 33 wins and at least 99 points this season.
That would be enough for promotion wouldn’t it?
