There was a buzz on Twitter last night that Newcastle could be closing in on two experienced players who would no doubt strengthen the Newcastle squad.
They are James McCarthy of Everton and former Newcastle player Andros Townsend.
James McCarthy is definitely available from Everton and there were reports that Newcastle are now the favorites to sign him after the betting on SkyBet shortened rather dramatically yesterday and he is now odds-on to join Newcastle this month.
James McCarthy – odds on to join Newcastle
And there were reports from Crystal Palace that maybe Andros Townsend is closer to a Newcastle return and certainly it seems that most Newcastle fans would welcome the lad back, after he played so well for us last season under Rafa Benitez.
There are about 20% of fans who would not welcome him back after he left us in late June in our hour of need.
Would You Take Andros Townsend Back At Newcastle?
- Yes (85%, 7,647 )
- No (15%, 1,377 )

But if Newcastle can get these two players in – both of whom have ample experience as Premier League players – it would give us a big boost in our efforts to get promoted this season.
it’s unlikely we can get both of them and if we had to choose between the two we would go for James McCarthy.
The 26 tear-old Glaswegian would fill a gaping hole in the squad in central midfield and his vast experience would be invaluable to the Newcastle side.
There’s a buzz with the fans at the moment about these two players, so let’s hope the rumors have some truth to them.
At the moment Townsend is at 5/2 on SkyBet to join Newcastle and James McCarthy is at 10/11 odds on to join us

Comment #7Benitez has joked he-himself may have to play in the cup game, with the shape of the squad right now. The joke of course is on Ashley. Hilarious situation the manager is in,

Absolutely re the chinese although I see they are starting to put sanctions in place according to the BBC today.
FIFA myst fo more to make league competitions more equal. Invoking a sensible home grown policy can only be beneficial league wise for club teams and certainly internationally.

Jib he will be gone for the season, ruptured ACL alone will keep him at least 9 months if everything went perfectly and there was no secondary injury (chondral damage, meniscal other ligamentous injury), and at his age/injury history they are much more likely to hold him out for 12 months. Any earlier and get ready for another Rolando injury.

Comment #10I don’t know where these reports are coming from but when you go on Sky for all the transfer news and paper talk main and regional there is nothing about any of these players coming to Newcastle. will not hold my breath on any of this happening, if both are available then sign them. It should be that easy, phone call place: Morning want to sign for RAFA and become a legend in half a season and help get Newcastle back to the prem, you see, that does not sound that hard to do.
