Karl Darlow has made a couple of bad errors in the last three games which has cost us a goal and 2 points in the 2-2 draw at Norwich and then the shocking 2-2 draw at home to Bristol City.
Karl cannot make any mistakes tonight in the game at Brighton, which most pundits think Brighton will win based on current form in the last few games.
Newcastle have not done well in those games getting only one win and two draws and conceding four goals in the games against Norwich, Aston Villa and Bristol City.
Karl Darlow on Saturday
Fans behind him cannot believe what just happened
On Saturday Karl and Paul Dummett didn’t communicate well with each other and Paul headed the ball back to the goalkeeper who was not expecting it.
It all ended up with Cotterill getting in to tap the ball home and Newcastle were 2-0 down.
A compete gift of a goal.
But Karl has shown good mental strength in the last couple of weeks and he has accepted responsibility for his mistakes and puts it down to a learning experience which is probably the best way to look at mistakes.
This is what Karl has said about Saturday’s error as reported in the Chronicle:
“It was just one of them.”
“I thought it was coming through, shouted for it and Dummy has tried to head it back to me.”
“It was miscommunication or he has not heard me, I don’t know.”
“But that is the life of a goalkeeper. Unfortunately, it happened and they got a tap in.”
“Yes, I made a few saves in the second half but that doesn’t wipe out what happened earlier.”
“It’s not easy to forget about them but if you want to be a goalkeeper playing in stadiums of 50,000, you just have to learn to get on with it.”
“That is all part of your career.” “You learn and hopefully, this season will teach me a lot and I can kick on from here.”
There’s a chance that Rafa Benitez could finally recall Rob Elliot in goal and give him his first appearance of the season tonight.
It’s possible but not probable.
But Rafa will not have liked the way we basically gifted Bristol City their two goals through a lack of concentration early in the game.
What do you think?

Comment #3Of the three keepers, Elliot is probably the most deserving on balance right now. If not for injury, he’d have started the season in goal. But to be honest it’s neither here nor there really, and you could say the same all over the pitch apart from Shelvey’s role.
