Newcastle Fans In High Spirits After Great Weekend Of Results

Unfortunately it looks like Sky Sports will be concentrating on the relegation games in the Championship for next Sunday, so Newcastle will not be shown live on TV.

Well there’s always the radio for those who cannot make the game.

The game against Barnsley and all Championship games kick off at 12:00 noon (7:00am US east coast time) and that’s obviously so Newcastle fans have enough time after the game to celebrate big time – in the Bigg Market.

That’s obvious!

Rafa Benitez arriving last March 11th to sign on for Newcastle
It’s been a tough but magical last 13 months for the Magpies
Thanks Rafa!

We had an easy 2-0 win at Cardiff City on Friday night and would you believe it, but Brighton lost their second game in a row – this time at home to Bristol City so we’ve gained 6 points on the Seagulls in the last two games.

So we have a chance of winning the Championship next Sunday if we beat Barnsley at home and Brighton don’t win at Aston Villa.

This is how the league stands.

And if for some strange reason any Newcastle fan is still not happy at our plight in the Championship just think if we were now in mid-table in the second division and were still in the Championship next season.

That’s the sorry plight of both Aston Villa And Norwich City who went down with us last May and were also favored to come straight back up – so give a thought for their fans.

And it’s the plight also of Sunderland AFC next season.

And if you don’t know who you should be thanking for all of this – don’t even think about it – it’s Mr. Rafa Benitez – Newcastle United manager.

Let’s make sure next Sunday for those at the game – that he really knows we love him and thank him for all he’s done and all he’s going to do for our great club!

In the ten years I have ran this blog (it’s been up and down and mainly down) I cannot remember being more proud of Newcastle United or more excited and happy at what the future holds than I am now.

There- I’ve said it.

Here’s some typical tweets from the upbeat Newcastle fans.

And to think we were nervous about Huddersfielld or even Reading catching us for automatic promotion not so long ago! Now they can barely get within 6 points of us!

I understand they are 110 million in debt.
However, a team in the Prem should be able to service that amount of debt. The income is 100 million a year from TV.
Obviously the more money in the game the more you have to spend to compete.
Even the seats in their ground look like they are from the local scrap yard.
I think there is more to it than that.
The owner has clearly given up on it.

We need to partner Hayden in centre mid with Carvalho or a player of his class and build.

Go after either Gibson (swap with Hanley and money), Maguire (same deal) or Shawcross.

Up top I would go after Gray at Burnley.

Concentrate on the spine of the team and hopefully improve the left hand side too, Tierney at Celtic would be a good buy.

I’d go with Chambers, Maguire, Taylor, Camacho, Cairney, Atsu, Fraser/Antonio, King

That would be around £70-90mil spent tho

oddly with Moyes, the mackems probably have the best manager in place to get out of that league. Think he’s got a bit of a raw deal, they gave him no backing and they had a squad that should have been relegated the last 3 seasons but stayed up due to other sides falling apart!
Not many sellable assets tho.. defoe leaving for nowt, Id take N’dong from them, bout it though.
If they can get rid of the bad core, they have some talent that needs to rebuild reputations, ie: Rodwell
Really, O’shea, McNair, Rodwell, watmore, Gibson, Pickford possibly Love and Jones should make a solid base for them in the level below! Reckon realistically they could keep hold of these..
If they can keep khazri I think he’d probably replicate Knockearts championship performances, similar if they can keep Kirchoff, he’s probably a class above the championship but doubtful either will fancy it
Surely Defoe, N’dong and Kone are off… They should look to drop Larsson, Borini, Anichebe and Lescott too…
If they have any sense they’ll do the Newcastle route and sign a pacy striker that will guarantee goals at that level and a midfielder that will create and score… If I was sunderland manager I’d be on the phone trying to do a deal for the Chelsea lads Brown and Abraham on a year loan, aswell as probably Jackson Irvine from Burton

I wasn’t looking for a plan to get them back.
I was hoping for news of a financial black hole that would drag them further doon.

Next season is gonna be interesting to see just how ruthless Benitez is…
Clark has been immense, but I can see Benitez upgrading the left footed CB position
Dummett has been decent, played near every game, can see us upgrading the left back position.
Think we’ll sign a central midfielder in the Kante, ball winning type mould.
    Can’t see us signing Atsu.
Can’t see Gouffran or Anita staying.
Got a tiny feeling they’ll cash in on Perez.
Got a hunch that Mitro will stay, and Gayle will leave… too many noises coming from people with contacts saying Gayle’s available for the right price…
Already heard from people that know Gray that its really possible he will come to Newcastle.
    My guesses for next season
    Krul (as first choice)
Yedlin Lascelles (cpt) New CB, New LB
    Shelvey. New CM
    Ritchie, New #10 New LW
    New #9.
Players retained for first team squad – Elliott,Hayden, Clark, Mbemba, Mitrovic, Sterry, De Jong, Murphy, Dummett, Diame, Aarons, Gamez,,
Can see them adding a couple squad players too.
Players I can see being sold
Gayle, Hanley, Darlow, Sels, Perez, Colback Haidara
Players I can see being loaned out
    Riviere, Saivet, Armstrong, Mbabu, Lazaar
    Released: Atsu, Gouffran, Anita
Bit controversial obviously with Gayle being our top scorer, just a lot of noises saying he’s being touted around.

Although Rafa’s mantra this season has predictably been ‘the next game is the most important’ and ‘promotion is the only target’ he appears to be a thoroughly consummate professional. Who, no doubt, will have planned a strategy for next season in the EPL, possibly before this current season started.

Rafa had no experience of Championship football before last August, but he is a quick learner, especially after losing the first two games.
He started with a game plan and a 4231 line-up, and stuck with it for 45 games, guessing Sunday’s line-up is a no brainer.

Rafa came with a reputation of being a ruthless coach/manager, but he has been surprisingly very trusting and supportive to a core of players. Two spring to mind, he stuck with a relatively young goalkeeper, Sels, when many critics wanted him replaced. He, Rafa, chose Lascelles as captain, and the young man kept the armband throughout the season, and again the critics thought otherwise.

In August we start the new season as a Premiership team, the current first team and usually the bench have all played in the Premiership. Therefore they are all by definition ‘Premiership’ players. Whether many of them will meet Rafa’s criteria of ‘Premiership’ players remains to be seen.

The lists of potential signings on the fan’s wish lists is entertaining and generates comment and debate, but Rafa has so far stayed stumn, but he will have a plan, that is for certain.

For the first time, possibly since Nolan & Co won promotion eight years ago, we have a happy and United dressing room, and long may it last. In retrospect, that lack of transfer activity in January, may have been a blessing in disguise. Remember Keegan’s transfer tinkering when leading the league by eleven points.

For what it’s worth, I think the biggest weaknesses with the current squad is the absence to a strong, vocal, experienced Captain. Lascelles is a big improvement on recent captains, which wouldn’t be difficult, I’m looking at you senor Collocini. What we need is a ‘John Terry’, with out the racialist, homophobic, yob mentality, and no criminal relatives, and a healthy dose of Jonathan Woodgate DNA wouldn’t go amiss.

The team line up that has produced promotion will have to change for the new season, the top teams are all now playing with variations of three at the back. Speed and a high pressing game are essential. Whatever money we spend on transfers, the biggest chunk should be splashed on the very, very best number 10 we can persuade to join the Rafalution.

If Rafa is able to recruit two or even three first class players, that will be a wonderful investment.

    Roll on Sunday, can’t wait…

The new shirt sponsor needs to be a class brand to compliment the new prestigious status of the club and City.
No more Wongs or Sports Direct – however if it’s Chinese related it may be a betting company ….
Money talks , we shall see

50 -100 million. Is it enough to insure we stay in the prem.

Rafa will want success but he is a clever man and knows what he wants takes time.

Money owed and incoming deals make a humdred million seem possible.

Wages are an issue but thats the same for all prem clubs.

    Exciting times ahead .

I would take most of them players in your list.

We need to be solid at the back and Maguire or a gibson would help that. We need to be very physical in the middle like Spurs were yesterday and then full of pace up top to be a genuine threat to teams.

Also, little transfer gossip from a client that’s got a box at stoke, he reckons he’s heard that Newcastle have made enquiries about Gianella Imbula .. not seen it reported anywhere at all though.. was stokes record signing but Hughes doesn’t rate him, hardly plays

Think rafa will get 50m plus player sales which will probably take it up to about 70m.
Can see us getting a mix of proven premier league players and riskier dutch/Belgian/Portuguese league players (we’ve had scouts at nearly every benfica game, aswell as Ghent and Anderlecht)
I think realistically I could see us signing
    Mahmadou Sakho
    Ben Davies
    Hector Herrera
    Tom Cairney
    Jese Rodriguez
    Andre Gray
with a couple of those players being loans with the option

Rivière’s contract is up this year so he’s got chance to just be released

    As is

    Vuckic, Gouffran and Ameobi’s

Krul, Mbabu, Good, Dummet, Haidara, Gamez, Ben El-Mhanni and Murphy’s

The fact they only gave Gamez and Murphy 2 year contracts suggests straight away they were 1 season players

Despite appearances he’s only 25 and could still have his best years to come under a good coach.

Does anybody expect rafa to be ruthless and to rip the squad to bits for a prem rebuild ?

We have a good team atm and moral is possibly at its highest for years.

I would love ashly to give rafa next years sky money upfront and use whats in the pot and owed to pay wages etc.

I just find it hard to believe we could have as much as 200 million to spend on our first year back
    (Transfers wages electric bill etc)

On the flip side why bother paying rafa 5 mill per annum if you dont back him.

The ball is in fatties court

Rivière signed 4 year contract in 2014 still has a year to run unless we can give him away or another loan
