There’s No Doubt Who Our Player Of The Season Is

With the votes rolling in for our annual Player of the Season poll there’s simply no doubt early in the voting who will win the poll.

Matt Ritchie is way out in the lead with close to 60% of the vote with the next in line being Jonjo Shelvey with 15% followed by Ciaran Clark on 10% and Dwight Gayle with 23 Championship goals in third place on 8%.

But with Dwight being out injured most of the second half of the season with a hamstring problem, it was Matt Ritchie who stepped up to the plate and scored the goals that helped Newcastle get that automatic promotion and win the Championship as we pipped Brighton last Sunday afternoon.

Brilliant Matt Ritchie – Player of the Season

One good point is that the top five players leading the vote all signed for Newcastle last year, with four of them being signed last summer by Rafa.

That shows how Rafa brought in some very good players in his first transfer window at Newcastle.

Please vote if you haven’t already done so – we still need the votes in but it seems quite obvious now who’s going to win.

Well done Matt Ritchie, who we signed from Bournemouth for just £12M (cheap at the price) and he scored 16 goals for us last season – a terrific first season on Tyneside and he dropped down a league last summer to join us.

What a guy!

Fairly sure that puts Gayle in 4th place Ed.

Somewhat surprised to see Ritchie as runaway leader tbh. I suppose both Shelvey and Ritchie have been hugely important to our success this season.

If we could get someone of the same quality and work rate as Richie on the left wing and at no 10 we could really be in business

Could be a delay until they sort out where the away fans are going to be seated. Might have to be seated in the front behind the goals in the Leazes End

I’ve just about recovered from the Sunday Sesh, congratulations to Rafa the squad and everyone behind the scenes.
Top job, this is the end of the beginning not the beginning of the end.
    Onwards and upwards

Fabregas would make all the difference in the No 10 role to just about any team and would be great for the toon…but he’s a London boy and would never make the move up here for project Rafa.

We have to be realistic…we need to move for people that haven’t already lived in London or Manchester because her indoors will always put the Kibosh on any move up North.

methinks we’ll be switching from importing French talent to importing Spanish talent mixed with some English players who are unfortunately no-where near the levels of the likes of Fabregas

I could only watch a few games on line and some of them were of poor quality, so can’t really give an opinion on a radio commentary..What I can say however is that whoever wins the player of the season award can certainly hold their head high.

I mightn’t have voted for Jack Colback. Does anyone know where he is?

Auto correct strikes again. I should have said – I might have voted for Colback. (His name doesn’t appear).

Good point in this piece. Top five are Rafa signings. As for Fabregas, more chance of Northern gas. Wages will bee far too high.
