The Mirror (Simon Bird) are reporting today that Rafa Benitez will try to get Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi in on loan for next season and presumably have an option to buy him next summer.
We had reported yesterday that Chelsea will likely want back the £33M they paid out to Marseille for him last summer and that’s a lot of money for Newcastle to pay out this summer.
Newcastle trying to get Michy Batshuayi on loan
However, if we can get him on loan for next season Newcastle will be able to afford that fee next summer and could buy him then.
However the problem with that scenario is that if other clubs come along this summer and bid the Chelsea asking price for the 23 year-old Belgium International they are likely to sell.
It doesn’t seem in Chelsea’s interests to loan him out for a season when it’s obvious manager Antonio Conte does not rate him highly.
Michy has not had a chance this season and started only one league game and he would definitely get lots of playing time at Newcastle next season and would be our number one striker.
Newcastle have to hope the player wants to join the Rafa revolution on Tyneside and that Chelsea are willing to loan him out to Newcastle for a season.
If that happens then we would have a top class striker next season and have a chance to make the deal permanent next summer.
Michy still scored 9 goals in 27 appearances for Chelsea last season, but got very little playing time.
Let’s hope Rafa’s well known persuasive powers are in full operation as he tries to convince Michy to join us for next season, but some big clubs will also be after him.
It would be a coup if we can Michy to Newcastle for next season.
What do you think?

Comment #1After watching atsu loan/buy the lad may be tempted to join us so he can get game time.
Buying outright @ 20 million would be better imho
Hes young enough and has enough talent to resell for profit if needed in a few years.
Him, gayle, mitro ,armstrong up front and sell perez to raise funds would be canny.

Comment #3The way I see it is this . If Rafa could get Michy and Gray for a respective 33 million then that would be seen as a huge hole in the budget but if you offset that with selling Mitrovic 20 million and Murphy 2 million ( ah ). That’s 11 million maybe put it up to 15 to get the deals done . Michy,Gray,Gayle . For 15 million sounds nice . Back that up with an experienced defender a transfer record breaking midfielder ( if Michy is loan only ) a top quality left winger and I’m not talking Tom Ince here . I mean someone like Hakim Ziyech . Just someone with quality who can cross a ball . A decent loan would do but quality is the preference here .

Comment #4Asprilla @3 – Sounds good in theory BUT I’m not sure we’d get anything like £20m for Mitro after the poor season he’s just had!

Comment #5A sad and viscous attack on kids in Manchester will take the heat off our Supreme Leader. The hard nose bustards in the right wing media and Tory HQ will see it as an opportunity to get wavering voters back on side.
Anyway, enough!
