The Shields Gazette are reporting today they think that Rafa has decided to release both Vurnon Anita and Yoan Gouffran when their contracts terminate at the end of June.
We thought that Vurnon Anita at least would be offered a new deal, so this is quite a surprise.
Yoan Gouffran and Vurnon Anita
Both to be released?
The Gazette says their chances of a new deal have receded over the past week, so you have to think that Newcastle’s recruitment is going well for them not to want to retain at least one of the two players who both have had good seasons for the club.
In fact it was the best performance of the four and a half years Gouffran has been at the club and he has seemed to be a different player under Rafa.
Rafa has also praised Yoan at the end of the season after he had played through injury for the club in those last few games, but certainly in the second half of the season he didn’t look as good as he had done earlier, but that could have been due to injury.
One of the next pieces of information to be released by the club is the list of players who will not be retained and Gouffran and Anita could both be on the list.
If that’s the case it’ s a pity for the two stalwarts, but it does suggest Newcastle are having some success in their recruitment this summer.
And it doesn’t bode well for players returning from season long loans either.
Anita was signed from Ajax in the summer of 2012 for around £6.5M so we will lose him for nothing this summer and Yoan Gouffran was one of five Frenchmen who joined us in January, 2013 from Bordeaux.
What do you think?

Comment #4It’s not what kind of world have you brought them into, it’s more about what little we’ve done to be aware of in this world which will now affect our children and their children to come.
There’s much more to this world than politicians making decisions on our behalf… We have let this happen and will continue to do so.
About time we start looking at things outside of our narcissistic bubbles… Unfortunately, lots of us will go in to denial if they don’t understand something. My heart goes out to everyone in Manchester…. All these ‘terror attacks’ can be avoided if we don’t go along with it and repeat what the BBC tell you.
